After all, you are either on a beach you definitely don't recognize and have never been at, or you're just in Aldrip, looking the way it always does, as if this isn't a dream and just reality. Your choice of prompt.
But you aren't alone there. Maybe you know Ange and recognize her - she looks just the way she always does, so it's not hard! - or maybe you don't recognize the girl at all. Regardless of what's the case, there's not much time to just stand around there and watch your surroundings. Instead the girl is suddenly latching onto your wrist and starts running, dragging you along. ]
What are you just standing around for?! There's no time! [ .. and no time to explain either, apparently! ]
( ooc: please let me know in the header of your comment which of the two options you're going with, and also your level of comfort when it comes to gore! basically just list low level gore/medium level gore/high level gore and i'll make sure to stick to the extent of your preference! )
[He doesn't want to be here. The beach serves as a play on a theme; a reminder of the last time he was forced into a goodbye he didn't want to face. That he's facing it again, another silent, faceless disappearance... it must be some sort of cosmic joke. He isn't laughing.
But then a hand wraps around his wrist and tugs.]
Wh-- [He's running before he really knows what's going on, feet digging into the sand, but that red hair, that voice... the intensity of her tone sets him on edge immediately.] Ange? What's going on?
[ That's the only thing the girl says as she continues to drag him along. It doesn't even take that long - especially when the girl seems to be running fast, not out of some sense of athleticism, but something that seems closer to sheer desperation, her feet falling against the ground as quickly as they can - to get out of the sand and up a set of stairs, leading up the sides of the island to higher ground than the beach below. Threes surround the stairs on all sides, but the girl continues to run up them, even though it makes Ange sound out of breath when she speaks up again as she runs. ]
This is where-- It's where my family died. This is where I can find out the truth. [ She has to pause her speech for a second - has to, because the breath she sucks in sounds desperately needed as she's still moving, still tugging his hand along with her. ] You can help me, right? You're good at this sort of thing, aren't you?
[Yu has never known Ange to be as hurried as she is right now, but he trusts her declaration without question, tabling his concerns for the moment. Focusing on the run. Basketball doesn't train you for a sprint like this, and without the same intense desperation fueling him on...well, he somewhat regrets passing on soccer, at the moment.
The differences in the scenery make themselves clear as the moment progresses: this isn't Aldrip's beach. It's something else. Something Ange seems to know.
It's where my family died.
He's silent at the admission, following obediently as he lets the words sink in. He knew already about her family, at least distantly; she had told him so herself. But hearing her speak about it so frankly...]
Of course. [Help me find the truth. He could never say no to a request like that -- especially not from her.] Of course I'll help.
[ Toph has no real personal feelings about being on a beach apart from her general dislike of the ocean. She's taught herself sandbending specifically so she doesn't feel at a loss in places like this anymore, so that doesn't bother her, but being abruptly dragged along in a hurry does. This isn't the first time it's happened and she's immediately alarmed by how freaked out Ange is. ]
Ange-- hey! What's going on?
[ But she follows along without protest, hustling as soon as she can get her feet under her. She trusts Ange and if wants to pull her somewhere, she'll go. ]
[ Ange does feel a little more guilty dragging Toph along than she might feel with other people. Partially because she actually cares about the other girl - and despite the fact that Toph doesn't need her to be gentle, Ange wants to be out of a sense of fondness - and partially because Toph would likely figure out even less quickly than other people what's going on here. ]
My family is here. [ Ange manages to get out between steps, running so fast that she's practically almost jumping, taking big leaps over the sand to try and be as fast as possible here.
There's something about Ange that Toph might be able to pick up on in her tone, or in the way her heartbeat is so fast in this moment that it's definitely something the other could feel through their joined hands. ]
They're here, Toph. Not the-- [ She quickly adds, realizing she has to correct herself with what she has told the other before. ] Not my shitty aunt. Well, she's here too, but that's not-- My actual family is here. My mom and dad.
[ Reaching the end of the sand, Ange starts running up a set of stairs that lead up towards the actual island, away from the low levels of the beach. It's a set of wooden stairs, surrounded by less sand the higher they go, and with more nature instead - trees, rocks, foliage. Kind of like a forest. ]
[ Toph wouldn't thank her for gentleness in any case, but right now she isn't thinking about herself at all. She's never seen Ange like this before, totally wrapped up in a crisis, panicking, explaining herself incoherently. ]
Hate to break it to you, but that doesn't actually tell me anything, [ she says in harried disbelief. ] Uh-- are we going to them or away from them?
[ It really could be either one. Toph is familiar with a wide array of possible parental relationships and she doesn't know anything about Ange's, she realizes, just that normally they're dead. Maybe this is some spirit world bullshit or more Aldrip computer nonsense. Somehow it doesn't feel like she needs to worry about that too much, like if she tries to focus on it, the thoughts just slip through her fingers and out of her mind.
Toph is bought into what's happening and her main concern right now is figuring out what Ange needs from her. Once she catches on to how fast Ange is trying to go, she pushes a hand out in front of them so that the sand firms up into a solid pathway ahead of them, packed densely instead of sliding around in loose shifting mounds.
They get to the stairs and hustle up them and Toph is a little relieved to be back to solid ground, which is always her comfort zone. ]
[He hadn't really expected a beach. Not that he really thinks about or remembers his dreams. A lot of times they're things he'd rather not think about. But he's still processing that when he's suddenly pulled along.]
[ Sorry, Tsuna. But apparently there's not even an explanation right away. Instead Ange just drags him right along, racing across the sand as well as she can until she reaches the end of the beach - not the end that meets the water, but the end that meets the rest of the island. She starts running up some stairs that lead higher up the island, off the beach and into an area that seems almost more like a forest, with trees and foliage lining the sides of the stairs.
It's only about halfway up the stairs that the girl speaks up. She still hasn't let go of Tsuna's hand, still dragging him along. ]
You said you were part of organised crime.
[ .. well, maybe not with as many words, but.. definitely something along those lines, even if Ange is putting it very, very plainly right now. ]
That must mean you have seen people die before, right? You've seen-- [ She pauses, sounding out of breath from running. ] You've seen corpses.
[ ... Well, Kurt likely has no idea, or he wouldn't be asking this question in the first place.. But Ange seems like she's only giving that answer at first, just continuing to run rather than talk, not letting go of his hand.
Wherever they're going, it does seem to be urgent. Ange is running as far as she can. There's something desperate about it, especially since she's already sounding out of breath as she's running. ]
We have to find a clue as to what's behind this place! [ She finally says, after they've been running through the streets of Aldrip like that for a few moments already. ] There's no time!
[Kurt works on keeping up the pace! He has no problem running, but this sudden inexplicable full-on dash is likely going to be tiring! There's no slowing down when Ange's going full speed ahead, so he tries to appeal to her with words.]
Wait, why? What's going on? And- and where are we running a marathon to in search of this clue??
[He's all for finding clues, but he hopes there's an actual clue to find and/or a reason to be running like this.]
Although whenever he dragged her off like this, he was trying to get her to participate in something. This may not be the exact Ange that Echo knew before, but she's quite sure that something must be wrong from this behavior. She starts running without assistance, so Ange can let go if she wants to. Echo can handle running for a long time.]
[ It's strange. Even though Echo is obviously running along with her, Ange still isn't letting go of the other's hand. It's hard to tell if it's just because she doesn't have quite as much experience with any Echo as Echo has with Ange, or if there's some other reason, but-- even as Ange desperately keeps running through the streets as fast as she can, she's not relinquishing her grip on the other's hand. ]
There's no time. [ She says - between breaths, considering that all this running is already making Ange start to breathe harder than the usual. There's some sort of desperation to the sheer speed she's running at. ]
[It's fine, she can deal with it. Echo doesn't seem to be losing any steam whatsoever, and she's still breathing as regularly as one can when running.]
What does? I can assist you in looking if you tell me what it is.
[No time to assess the situation because all of the sudden, his wrist was purchased by a girl he recalled before.]
No time for what—- Hey!
[Regardless, Akutagawa followed. Running isn’t his forte, so he’s trying to remember how to breathe again. This man is barely fit to run a marathon. For now, he focused on running, falling tired easily and maybe weighing the other girl down.]
[ It doesn't really matter that Ange doesn't even know the other well. Sure, she does vaguely recognize him from the last time they spoke, but it's not like they're close or anything.
But Ange doesn't need anyone who's close right now. She just needs anyone at all. A second set of eyes. Someone who can confirm what she's seeing, who might see more than her. She keeps tugging on him, but it doesn't take too long - they're still on the beach, nearby a set of stairs that seem to lead further up towards the actual island - before she turns around to look at him. ]
Why are you being so slow?! [ Like it's his fault for being slow, even though she was the one dragging him along..
There's something odd about Ange though, compared to their previous conversation. She doesn't seem anywhere near as calm as back then. There's something emotional about her. Something desperate. ]
[He’s on the verge of collapse. Sprinting in adrenaline is one thing, being dragged to run a good distance.. proven to be more difficult. Akutagawa’s stamina isn’t as great compared to his fight or flight mode.
It’s dragging to the point where he tries to retreat his hand from her just to take a moment to breathe. The guy is freaking scrawny for crying out loud. But yes, something is different here. The once calm woman is rushing. Something is obviously upsetting her, and not only the tone from her voice. Akutagawa slaps both palms on his thighs, kneeling over to catch up with his air, looking down.
He answers, still looking down.]
For… what.
[That last part drags from his breath.]
I’m… haa.. not taking another.. haa.. step. Explain.
[If she dares to go ahead of him without answering, bet he will Rashomon rope her here.]
[ he does not recognise the place, nor the girl — well, that isn't quite right, is it? he can guess, has checked for her picture on the network, can put two and two together and suspect that this is the girl he'd talked to, those months ago, about the nature of the simulation.
but then she is grabbing his hand, and viktor's crutch morphs into a staff of sorts, one he has not made sense of so far; and even less sense makes the way he finds his feet working under him, though slow still, heavy in a way he isn't used to. but it seems the dream (yes, dream, he has gained lucidity several dreams ago and has continued to explore) will not see him struggle to move, here, when she needs him to do it fast.
(he does not look down; he can feel that he has no shoes, now, and guesses that his feet upon the sands are purple and alight with a metallic glow. he doesn't want to see it.) ]
For what? [ sorry, as if he'd go along without asking questions — ]
[ There definitely is something to this dream that seems to be helping both of them along. Almost like Ange's weird sudden sense of urgency is not only reflected in the girl herself, but also in their surroundings - the way Viktor is able to keep up with her more easily than he normally would have, and then their surroundings start to shift too. It's like they move even quicker than the two of them are running. The beach shifting into a set of stairs leading higher up towards the rest of the island, then shifting into a path through what almost seems like a forest at the top of the stairs.
Ange either doesn't notice it though, nor does she remark anything about it. At first the girl seems too focused to even notice his very question, but then she does speak up - while still running, and still holding onto his hand. Which might be a good thing, considering how their surroundings keep rapidly shifting - who knows what would happen if she let go of him now. ]
This is the only chance I have to solve a murder! And I need your help!
[ Who cares that she may not know Viktor all that well yet. She still somehow sounds convinced that she needs his help for this, almost like he's some sort of detective. ]
[ he has not seen a dream morph like this yet, and it is as disorienting as it is a fascination; the beach becomes stairs becomes a forest, and viktor blinks his way through each shift.
her hold on his hand doesn't lighten, and he thinks that might be the only thing anchoring him here, stopping him from shifting and blending like their surroundings, lost in the breakneck pace of it all. ]
A murder? But I'm not — [ not an enforcer, not in the habit of solving murders; and yet, the dream seems to require it, doesn't it? so he gives a slight nod, even as his face goes from resignation to quiet curiosity. ] ... Alright. How?
[ how can he help, is the full question, of course. ]
Forget about what they're running from. The fact that Ange, the girl who typically had her expression schooled into stern impassivity is so distressed is cause for concern.
But Minato allows himself to be hauled along. Whatever they're running from must be dangerous, terrifying, or some amalgamation of the two. He doesn't say anything and only allows himself to be dragged along.
[ Thanks, Minato. You truly are the most cooperative person in this entire scenario.
Mostly because it just allows Ange to do what she wants to do - which is running, apparently. So much running. She doesn't even say where they're headed, she just keeps running as far as she can, moving through the streets of Aldrip seemingly without end.
The girl is starting to slow down after a while though. And it's clear why. Ange seems utterly exhausted from having ran for her life for quite a bit now, and though she's still holding onto Minato's hand and moving, it's going at a much slower pace now. She's practically just walking, but she isn't stopping, despite being out of breath at this point.
She keeps walking. Step by step. ]
We.. [ Ange finally starts, having to pause to draw in breath before she speaks on. ] We have to find a way out of here.
[ Minato slows his pace with Ange, falling into step at her side. His hand stays clasped in hers too as the two of them walk down the streets of Aldrip. ]
A way out?
[ All he can do is repeat what she's said. They've... tried finding one in the past. Others have tried and failed. Others have tried to break free and failed. And while he's not certain what might happen if he challenges her on this, it's always best to say the truth, isn't it? ]
I don't... think there is one.
[ In spite of him saying that, he still keeps apace with Ange. ]
...why are you looking for one?
[ Obviously, a way out of Aldrip would be good for them. But the way Ange had been running, as though she were fleeing from something... Did they have to find a way out of Aldrip because of that?
ange ushiromiya | ota!
