The Last Drop Grand Opening

Who: Whoever would like to attend the grand opening mingle at the Last Drop
Where: Entertainment District – The Last Drop
What: The grand opening of the night club / bar
Warnings: Alcohol and low-level drugs

The Last Drop opens big and loud with neon lights and music that booms from within to be heard from the streets. There are two large bouncers at the door, but they were allowing people in very freely on this night until the room was at capacity then there would be a line. The bouncers only stop those who are already three-sheets to the wind and could cause trouble, but otherwise, they are there to break up trouble as the night wears on.

Inside, there was smoke machines, flashing lights, loud music and the drinks were flowing to anyone that wanted. There was plenty of dancing, some dart boards along the walls, a jukebox, tables and booths for patrons to have drinks and discuss business.

There are stairs that lead up to a second floor to one side of the bar, lights on the stairs. There were people lounging on the stairs and it seemed to be ‘employees only’. Patrons were allowed the lounge there as well if they were tired of dancing or the tables or booths were occupied.

You're not wrong.

[He gives the man a conspiratorial little smile, as if he too finds those events tiring. He doesn't really mind them, honestly. They're battlefields he's actually suited to, and he admittedly does like dancing.]

But that's an awfully intense way to phrase it. I'm just looking for ways to pass the time, really. I find myself rather...adrift, in this world.

[Saralegui's answering smile is thin, polite but dismissive, and he's quick to hide it with another sip at his drink.]

That's an optimistic way to look at it, but I'm not ready to get so settled here. I have things I need to get back to. The only opportunity I can accept right now is one that allows me to get home.

No need to be so defeatist about it. I'm not one to balk just because others have tried and failed.

[He sounds awfully confident. Is that the self-assurance of a king, or just that of a seventeen year old?]

But I suppose finding a hobby wouldn't be the end of the world.

[Well, that gets an eyebrow raise, and Saralegui's head tilts curiously.]

You want to stay here?

[He blinks, genuinely surprised. And...well. He doesn't know how to feel about that revelation.]

...I didn't know that was possible.

[Casually dropping a resurrection bomb is a hell of a thing. He chooses to shift focus and reexamine that general subject later in private.]

If the point of all this is reformation, then why bother with someone already dead?

[A huffs a breath through his nose, clearly skeptical.]

Surely there are living people who are just as terrible as you supposedly are. I can't imagine their only choice if they wanted a challenge was to raise the dead.

[Another soft, scoffing breath, but one with more amusement in it this time. He sips at his drink, shooting the older man a sideways glance. With many people, he could doubtlessly just claim his innocence and that, paired with his acting skills, would be plenty. But this man doesn't strike him as someone to blindly believe others.]

I would like to think not, but I imagine many people would say the same regardless of the reality. People aren't often both honest and self-aware. So my word on the matter likely doesn't hold much weight.

[Saralegui truly is a politician at heart. He was born for it, in the most literal sense – it had to be more nature over nuture, given he sure as hell wasn't raised or taught anything with the intent of ruling in mind.]

And yet you call yourself a bad person. Does that make you an anti-hero, then?

[Saralegui eyes the man as he listens, expression carefully controlled to give nothing away but polite interest.]

Free from what?

You sound more like a king than a businessman.

[It's neither sarcasm or complimentary, just pure observation before he continues sipping at his drink.]

[Saralegui huffs an amused breath into his glass at that. It just seems an ironic thing to say to him, a king born a bastard.]

I have goals that can only be accomplished when I return home. There are people that depend on me, others who would take advantage of my absence for their own gain, and an opportunity that isn't likely to come again. This place serves only to threaten everything I've ever worked for.

[It's a little dizzying to think of the fresh family drama that also awaits him whenever he returns home, but he's been trying not to dwell on all that. Thinking about his mother only leaves him feeling angry and miserable and unwanted.]
