[A part of him wanted to ignore those strange visions, those memories all viewed through a lens of red. Nothing about them really made sense. The only time those memories weren't coated in various shades of red was that strange memory, something that felt extremely different, foreign, unlike the others. Like that one didn't even belong to him. Honestly, felt like that one strange dream he had ages ago, that's been stuck with him even though he tried to push it aside.
All of this is confusing, and makes it just a bit harder to enjoy this... lovely day in Aldrip. But hey, at least his friend is nearby, and talking to Yu is always nice, right? He mentally pushes things back, plastering on a bright smile, a hand raised up to wave-- when something appears right behind the other teen and excuse his language, but holy shit.]
Yu--
[He's stopped when that light shines brightly from that weapon, blue eyes widening and then flashing red for a moment as he gets a glimpse of a different world, until everything all returns to normal. Normal?? Or is it actually wrong? Scott feels disorientated, a headache nearly forming, and it's only when Yu falls to his knees that snaps the teen out of his trance. A part of him wants to run, but he wants to check up on him.]
H-hey... [He calls out while making his way to him. Scott's mostly at a loss of words, however.]
Yu isn't even sure how to describe it, whatever it was he just saw. Despair, the feeling of loss that comes with losing the people closest to you -- only he didn't recognize them. Fear, the absolute terror of looking at some horrifying creature that you know you have to somehow survive against. Determination, the passion to build a better world...but none of it makes any sense. What was all of that? What was that?
For a moment, as Scott approaches, Yu feels a deep sense of concern that he's seeing him without glasses-- which is crazy, isn't it? He's the one between them that wears glasses.
It's a strange day in Aldrip, no matter how beautiful it is.]
I'm fine, [he says, sounding shaky but dedicated to not being a bother. Besides-- he is. Tired and disoriented, but...he's fine. He's still wobbling a bit as he works on standing again, brushing off his trousers as he does.
Then, he turns the same concern back on Scott.] Are you alright? That light didn't hurt you, did it?
[He's definitely relieved that the giant creature behind Yu is no longer around, because it seems connected to all the weird things going on around town? It probably wouldn't explain the missing parking bench and stuff, but when that light hit him... he saw something that was definitely connected to all of the memories that he's been receiving. Those visions of red, just like now.
He almost wants to reach up to his face, feeling wrong without his glasses on, but Scott manages to push that down, instead focusing on Yu. He was about to offer a hand, but seems like his friend managed on his own. Next time, he'll be more helpful!]
N-no, it didn't. [He confirms, as if trying to assuage the other teen's worries.] Dude, I was more worried about you-- it was right behind you after all. It looked dangerous.
[He saw it only in glimpses -- he thinks. Or was it whatever flash of moment came with the card? "The fool"...is that the creature's name? Something in his gut tells him that's wrong, that's not it. But then...what is? Thoughtfully, Yu takes off his glasses, wipes away a small smudge.
For a second, it feels strange wearing them, when it's not foggy.]
It wouldn't hurt me. [The way he worded that sinks in after a moment. Wouldn't, as if he knew it. As if he was certain it wasn't dangerous to him.
... ... ...
He wouldn't trouble Scott with this normally, even though they know each other well enough for real talk. But that slip of the tongue is on his mind, worrying at his thoughts like a bad habit. He almost can't help bringing it up:] Scott...have you had anything strange happen? Dreams or...visions, I guess?
[It's strange, but he suddenly gets the urge to ask for Yu's glasses, but they're not the right... color? The lens aren't red, so they wouldn't work. It's such a weird thought to have and it's nearly overwhelming, maybe just the after effects of that light hitting him? Probably true to some degree, but it's not going to be a simple explanation, is it?]
...You're sure?
[He asks, a little unsure, because he was really close to his friend and looked pretty scary. However, there's a certain level of belief in Yu's voice, like he just knows that their disappearing friend wouldn't harm him. Guess there's little point prodding about it, since he's no longer around. Not to mention Yu's asking him something that he's been trying to ignore, but it's getting impossible now.
At least he can talk about this with a good friend. Yu wouldn't judge him, right? And he wouldn't judge him.]
Yeah. [He quietly confirms as one hand reaches up to ruffle his own hair.] ...They've felt like memories to me. All coated in red. [He brings his hand back down, wincing a little.]
I'm-- [sure, he almost says, and then realizes he doesn't know how he would be. It looked like a monster, almost -- why in the world wouldn't it hurt him? Isn't that just what monsters do?
... ... ... But he is. He realizes that after a moment.] I'm sure. Yeah.
[Somehow, that doesn't make it any better. It's going to bother him for a while, he's sure, but...the creature is gone, and Scott is here, so he chooses to change his focus, at least for now. Maybe if they all start exchanging more information, they can figure out what's going on here. Maybe even how to stop it.]
In red? [That makes a change. He doesn't sound judgmental at all, just surprised.] I've been having things like that, too...just not in different colors. Any idea why they might have been like that?
[He's sure then. Guess that's settled. At least it's obvious that Yu definitely isn't injured in any way and even the light that slammed into him didn't feel painful. In fact, it felt... kind of revealing in a way. Like it was the truth that he's supposed to chase. It was so short though, brief like everything else. In a way, it should be more worrying.
But... well, he doesn't know. He'll just trust Yu, because that feels good. That has always felt good to him, even though everything's so fucking weird now.]
So, everything's the right color for you, huh? [Is he really the only person that's seen those weird visions in one color? It basically confirms that Scott is the oddity in this case, some weirdo. He brings a hand up to his eyes once more, as if expecting something to... maybe shoot out from them. That's not possible though, it's something straight out of a comic book.]
Sometimes, when I have one of those visions, I... feel afraid of hurting someone with my eyes. That I can blow something up just by looking at it.
[There is something so unsettling about all of this, so deeply, fundamentally wrong. It's like he's beginning to doubt the life he's always known, like he's no longer certain the world is real. Beneath the yawning abyss of worry that causes is the underlying nervous question: is he losing his mind? Are all of them? If it's not just him, then what on earth is happening?
But-- the fact is that it seems it's been happening for Scott, too.]
Yeah. I never noticed anything unusual about colors.
[Which is another worrying thought. Why, and how, is Scott seeing the world in red...? Scott tries to smile, but Yu looks nothing but worried, at least at first.]
That is pretty weird. [He doesn't want to lie and say something like he's sure it'll be fine. He's not sure about that at all. There's something within him, too, that he's just barely keeping a lid on. Some voice or personality yearning to get out, and the fact that he doesn't know what it is scares the hell out of him. But worrying themselves into a panic isn't going to help anyone or anything. So, after a moment, he ventures a bit of a smile.] ... For what it's worth, your eyes look just fine, to me.
Thanks, just let me know if they start looking weird. Or red.
[For once, he really feels kind of... hopeless, at least unable to really think of anything to make his friend feel better. But he doesn't want to do nothing, so he lifts a hand to place on Yu's shoulder, squeezing it lightly as he returns his smile with a slightly strained one. Well, even though things are going crazy and they might be losing their minds, at least... they have each other? Scott doesn't feel completely alone yet and as long as that feeling lasts, he thinks he can keep going. Face that abyss and dive right into it.
Hopefully Yu feels the same way.]
We'll get through this together, okay? We're still friends, I know that for sure.
[Yu breathes out a soft exhale, just a bit shy of a chuckle.]
Would it be too much if I say "I'll keep an eye out"?
[Levity is becoming easier by the moment, but he still feels worried. Still-- it's not lost on him that Scott is trying to reassure him. The hand on his shoulder helps, and he offers a small, grateful smile to show for it.]
Together. [He brings a hand up, placing it over Scott's for a moment before it goes back to his pocket. Somehow, just that one word is a comfort. It's strange, because he's just...used to being on his own, usually. "Together?" Being part of a group, a team? It's-- not how he does things, usually.]
So-- what kind of memories were they? If you don't mind sharing.
