{Mini Event} Day of Devotion
This is an entirely opt-in very casual event that has nothing to do with overarching storyline and is just an additional introductory log, and a means for characters to meet. We hope you've all had a very happy Valentine's Day week however you've chosen to spend it!
SCARVES OF LOVE

The season of affection and love of all kinds falls upon Aldrip in the wake of their festivities for Those Who Were There. As part of the celebration, what's referred to as the 'Day of Devotion,' local merchants carry a variety of wares, but none so coveted as their multicoloured scarves available in a variety of prints, designs, and fabrics. Perhaps consider picking one up and giving it to someone who's important to you. No money? No problem! Whilst Aldrip doesn't exactly work on a layaway system or akin to, you'll find the mercantile business owners are quite open to trades and other means of bartering. Maybe they'll give out a scarf or two in agreement for running some errands...
Lucky recipients of these very fashionable scarves will find themselves suspiciously open to sharing positive, warm and fuzzy, or perhaps downright amorous feelings toward the person who gifted them the scarf to begin with, regardless of whether you've known them for years or even just a couple of weeks. But don't worry—the feelings are temporary! Once the Day of Devotion comes to a natural conclusion, your feelings will return to something like normalcy and you'll still wind up with a new fashion accessory. Of course, if you've always been amorous with that special someone, you likely won't notice any sort of change.
Take the opportunity to embrace the celebration, maybe embrace one another a little bit, too, and begin forming some potentially everlasting bonds with others.
BRING PROTECTION

Not everyone is choosing to celebrate the Day of Devotion in the same way. Due to the heightened popularity of the pretty scarves, some of Aldrip's jewellers have been bitten by the green bug of jealousy. In an attempt to compete with the sales of scarves, jewellers are advertising pendants, brooches, and other assorted charms that are meant to serve as warding and protective trinkets. What are they protecting one from? It's difficult to say and the merchants aren't inclined to give a straight answer. But whether you need protection from love, personal feelings, or perhaps something more physical, they've got you covered!
If you choose to give these amulets to others, recipients of them and their related will be compelled to share their true feelings with those around them in addition to the person who gave them the protective charms. This sounds like it could be a good thing, however, that means it covers the array of positive, negative, and every shade in between, without a filter in place. Consider these accessories a potential test of friendships, familial relationships, and more.
Like the scarves, this need and desire to be truthful with your feelings will be temporary, lasting until the Day of Devotion celebration is over. But at least you'll be protected. From something. Maybe. Probably. Or not!
FLOWERS FOR ALDRIP

By now, you may be well familiar with Aldrip's variety of fields that are filled with vegetables and fruits that grace the dinner tables of the town and local cuisine. During the Day of Devotion and weeks leading up to it, you'll find that they're clearing another field and preparing the soil. What for, you won't find out until the actual day of the celebration. Once it arrives, there's a collection of simple carts filled with flowering plants. Locals and newly-arrived alike are welcome to lend a hand in planting them along the neatly tilled rows.
You may find plants that resemble or are identical to plants from your home world. You may find plants that you've never seen in your life. They come in a variety of colours and are accompanied by a lightly pleasing scent that shouldn't be too overpowering, though may still disturb those with allergies.
All who help out with the planting, watering, and other tending, will be rewarded with a bouquet of flowers that can be passed onto others to show your appreciation and other forms of affection. You may even find yourself making a good and lasting impression on the locals by offering some assistance.

Stede Bonnet | OTA
[It doesn't occur to Stede to run errands, really, and so no scarves for him. But he is looking at them and admiring them, running his fingers against the soft wool or silk or cashmere and thinking of someone he'd like to give them to. At someone's approach, though, he'll smile]
Beautiful, aren't they?
II. ~Jewelry~
[he does get a few pieces of jewelry however, mostly dragonfly brooches and one unicorn brooch that he wears pinned to his collar. He'll approach people who look like they might need some protection, or just a better day]
Hey, have you seen these yet?
III. ~Flowers~
[Stede has helped with the watering a little, and is given a bouquet of Forget-Me-Not that he carries around. He will also give a flower to someone that looks like they need it, or you can catch him experimenting with putting them in his hair, though it's clear he's not sure about it]

Rinoa Heartilly | Open
curtainsscarves for you! Lacy, gently waftingcurtainsscarves[It doesn't take long for Rinoa to get curious about the festive atmosphere, getting drawn into a merchant's booth quite easily. There it's so easy for her to get lost looking at the sheer variety of scarves on display. They're beautiful! One scarf in particular has caught her attention and no matter how often she strays away from it. She always returns. Giving it fleeting, longing looks even when trying to focus on other things. But you're not supposed to get a scarf for yourself, you give them to others! So resist she must.]
[Alternatively, she's happy to approach others looking at scarves. Already having reached an agreement with the vendor for her to have two scarves for giving away. What's a little beast hunting in exchange for a present? She can handle basic beasties. It's not a worry. So, upon spotting another person who's clearly a fellow outsider, Rinoa can't help but approach them.]
I think it suits you. [A warm smile.] Don't worry, I don't work here.
II - It's a charming occasion
[If Rinoa's got to be stuck in a strange world where things could go very wrong at any time? It's nice to have such cute traditions. Upon arriving, she'd given her black ribbon armlet up at the altar, only for the universe to give her a new armlet not that long after. Even if it's not actually a protective amulet... it's pretty and that's honestly more than enough for Rinoa.
A few extra trinkets are carefully selected and then Rinoa's out of the store and actively looking for people. In her hurry, she almost bumps into someone, but catches herself at the last second. The protective amulet at work already? Who can say?]
Ooops. Sorry! [A sheepish smile, an offer of help if it's needed.] I'll pay more attention from now on.
[A pause. Maybe this is Fate?]
Hey, do you have an amulet yet? The vendor said they're helpful for this time of year and a local tradition!
[She holds out her hands palm up, holding out a few different options of varying designs.]
Do you want one? I think you should have one.
[If they hesitate she'll pick one out and hold it out to them. Which is completely normal behavior for her actually. No event needed to be this forward.]
How about.... this one?
III - Recreating a Promised Place
[It's a surprise, one that stops Rinoa short when she sees them. Those flowers. They look like.. they look like. The poor thing almost shorts out for a moment. A look of longing crossing over her face for a few moments before she shakes it off.
Now's not the time to fall apart Rinoa. Keep it together. Make them proud. Taking a deep breath, Rinoa is quick to promise assistance to some of the workers and is soon kneeling in the dirt and planting a bunch of flowers very carefully. Maybe this isn't the sort of work she did normally, but she's quick to catch on.
She's not a fan of the dirt, but maybe... maybe if she can make a field like that one... maybe one day it'll work again. So she puts in the work. Nothing obtained without something given in return after all and if this means she's going to want a nice, long bath later well... it'll be worth it. Feel free to run into her while she's working!]
[Afterwards, having obtained a bouquet for her help as well as a bag containing a few plants for her own use, Rinoa heads back into town with a smile on her lips. It's nice to feel productive sometimes. Even if her knees are still dirty despite her best efforts. But is she ashamed? No, it's from honest effort. So she doesn't think to hide, instead she's still quick to walk up to people she meets.]
Hey. You look like you could use a flower. [Reaching into her bouquet she'll pick out a single stem before holding it out to them with a playful wink.] Much better!
II
Leaving the design vague so you can pick it yourself :) Rinoa's keeping hers forever

Ethlyn | Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War
[The scarves are too beautiful not to want one, and Ethlyn is conscious that she's going to need more than simply the clothes she arrived in if she's going to be presentable every day.
The 'Day of Devotion' is providing ample opportunity, and of course it's impossible not to look at the scarves--they seem to be the main event.]
It's meant to be a gift? [She says to the merchant she's just bought one from.] Hm... I'm not sure who I'll give it to. But I'm sure I'll find someone here.
II. A unique charm
[A charm of protection. Ethlyn isn't so sure about these--she's got a suspicion that the peddlers would be peddling them under any justification, and their evasive answers only double that impression.
Still, she'd be lying if she said she didn't like looking at jewelry. She's looking at a brooch carved in the shape of a horse's head... enchanted or no, she can't help but feel drawn to it.]
Well... I don't know if I believe all the claims, but it would be rather nice to wear.
[And there are two. Why not... buy both? Ethlyn finds herself not pinning one on her cape, but just looking at them.]
III. Floral notes
Oh... it's lovely.
[That's what Ethlyn thinks, and says, when she arrives at the field that had been so mysteriously cleared--her curiosity brought her here as soon as she learned that it was being used for the Day of Devotion.
Soon enough, she's on her knees in the tilled rows, helping to plant the waiting flowers. It's very... satisfying to put something beautiful in the ground, knowing that it will keep growing and thriving. She smiles softly and looks to the person nearest her.]
I think I'm going to keep coming back here. What a lovely idea, don't you think?

Abe no Seimei | OTA
[With all of the merchants bringing out fancy new wares, it's hard not to take interest in the celebration. Although so far the information on Those Who Were There strikes Seimei as vague and mysterious, he knows that participation is the best way to learn about a new environment. Maybe he can get a bit closer to these gods if he joins in with the locals?
The problem is, Seimei is having trouble getting one of those coveted scarves. It seems like it would be easy enough to trade for one, but when you don't want to give up your precious few personal items and you're on the lazy side... well. Mostly he looks sadly at everyone else wearing fancy scarves.]
They're lovely, but how do people afford such things? I'd rather not go on a quest... what if something bad happens?
[He's debating with himself very openly, maybe purposely standing near other people. Hello? Can you help him?]
ii. bring protection
Excuse me!
[Okay, so he's had a few road blocks, but Seimei has at least managed to buy one thing during this celebration. He has his prize safely wrapped up in a handkerchief and now just has to take the next step to investigate the local customs: finding a recipient for the gift. He flags down whomever seems idle and possibly interested in the merchants hawking their items nearby.]
Hello, I was hoping to borrow a little bit of your time? I'll buy you a drink to repay you. I just need a little assistance.
iii. wildcard
[Seimei is here to experiment with the fancy items and possibly cause trouble trying to figure out what they do. I'm here for random warm feelings or awkward confessions about other people he can talk with people about, or if anyone wants to turn the talks or feelings on him. Trickery competition? Flirting wars?]

Zhou Zishu | Word of Honor | OTA
[ Somehow -- and Zhou Zishu is not entirely sure how -- even in another world he has found himself at the mercy of an auntie fussing over how skinny he looks. His own fault for trying to be helpful, he supposes, but the woman's entire table had been in danger of tipping over thanks to a sudden crush of people, and it hadn't taken much for him to step over and right it before everything crashed to the ground. The fact that the auntie had immediately started gushing over his unexpected strength hadn't stopped her from telling him he needs to eat more in the next breath.
He has so far fended off any attempts to feed him, but his luck runs out when the woman finally huffs and presses a small broach into his hands with a look that says he will take it if he knows what's good for him. She rattles off a number of promises of protection it will bring and is already turning to another customer before Zhou Zishu manages to get a word in edgewise. It leaves him standing there nonplussed, staring down at the piece of shimmering metal he has found himself stuck with. ]
I hate being thanked. [ It's grumbled mostly under his breath considering the gifter is very much not paying attention to him anymore. But when he catches someone looking out of the corner of his eye, he turns towards them to lift a sardonic eyebrow and offering the brooch out. ] In need of protection?
ii. flowers for aldrip
[ Curiosity had taken him out to the fields and experience had put him to work. Hours later, what Zhou Zishu has to show for it is a good deal of soil around the hem of his long robes and a bundle of utterly unfamiliar flowers. Presumably he's supposed to be giving them out or something, but instead Zhou Zishu is eyeing a particularly bright red bloom with something that looks a lot more analytical than it does appreciative. ]
Could just boil it and see what happens.
[ He is, of course, joking, as the smile he offers a passing side-eye promises. He wouldn't just experiment with unknown plants. Unless...? ]

Wen Kexing | Word of Honor | OTA
[Wen Kexing can't resist the fancy looking scarves. They all look extravagant and colorful in a way he assumes must come from great wealth. Of course he's going to poke at every merchant stall and display, admiring them all. All of the vendors tell him he can barter for other items or even run some errands in exchange for one, but he's having a hard time settling on an agreement.]
Ah, maybe later. I want to keep looking!
[All of the scarves look fine, but that's the problem.]
I need to find the best one.
ii. flowers of Aldrip
[Wen Kexing doesn't necessarily mean to volunteer himself as free labor. He originally just came to look at all the flowers, but when some of the young local children came up and insisted he dig and garden too... well, he was apparently planting flowers and pulling weeds now. Or he's trying to, anyway. Transplanting flowers isn't too difficult, but weeding new areas is a bit more complicated. When Wen Kexing grabs a fistful of green plants and yanks them all out at once, he ends up getting scolded.]
What do you mean those are flowers too? They don't look like flowers! Tch, why are you planting so many things you won't use anyway? These aren't edible.
[How did he get in trouble already?]
iii. wildcard
[I'm happy to trade feelings for scarves or brooches, although Wen Kexing is already very emotionally open and honest about how he feels. He's happy to flirt with hot guys for fun, but I'm also happy to thread cute things, arguments, or chats about other people. He can give really bad advice?]

[ Closed to Mizuki ]
[When word of the festivities surrounding the Day of Devotion reaches Saito, his first reaction is to stay the hell away from it. Not only it reeks of a cheesy and old-fashioned nickname for Valentine's Day, festivities also equal hoards of people on the streets — and what good is a group of people for when he can't murder them? Although, the opportunity to get his target a (cheap but) heartfelt gift, for a chance to help mend her trust in him was too good to pass up.
It was with that objective in mind that he found himself checking out the goods crafted by an old couple of merchant artisans, which consisted of collections of their best scarves and pieces of jewelry, many of which fit each other well aesthetically due to their joint production. Upon explaining he was looking for a gift for an eighteen-year-old girl, the old woman quickly took over, navigating him through a bunch of the finest jewelry in Aldrip, many of which crafted by her husband. Not bothered with actually wasting time picking, he added that the girl liked rabbits, and that any rabbit-themed jewelry would likely please her.
At this, the old woman beamed ecstatically, seemingly jumping to conclusions. "My", he heard her exclaim, "if that's the case, I have the perfect gift for your girlfriend!"
Saito merely went along with that misunderstanding: the old lady was hellbent on finding the perfect gift for this "cute young couple". There was no reason to ruin her delusional excitement, as it was advantageous for him as well. Ultimately, what she offered him was a rabbit-shaped scarf that not only seemed to be exactly the kind of cutesy accessory he would find in stores (online or otherwise) all across Japan, but also its rabbit-shaped charm counterpart. Both at a very generous price, no less (nearly at a two for the price of one ratio, proving that going along with the misunderstanding paid off). Perhaps that coincidence added to the fact that both accessories were the same color as Adorabbit meant that the rabbit's curse over Mizuki had only mysteriously gotten stronger since she came to this world.
Now with the right tools in hand, he contacts her through the golden charm, and arranges to meet in a nearby, quiet square, away from the hustle and bustle of the ongoing celebration... and the hoards (and eyes) of people.

cloud strife — final fantasy vii remake
[ There's talk, scattered through the merchants as he makes his way back from a simple delivery job, about some festive celebration that will give rise to silly things like love and affection in the air: but more importantly, more coin and trade in the hands of those selling wares for the purpose of it. It seems this celebration, whatever it is, means that he's less likely to be able to pocket any sort of coin and more likely to have payment for his services rendered as something a little less useful; it's a sour face that meets this realization, once he pushes his hands down into the worn pockets of his uniform and finds less there than he should.
He's tending to stacking a few boxes, back behind one of the stalls, finishing up the last of his work--and as his chin lifts, a small bead of sweat muddled down his jaw, he finds himself alarmingly close to someone browsing the local wares of this particular merchant, admiring some of the scarves hung up around the opening to entice people to buy. He imagines that it's mostly a celebration for those that would wear such pretty things: then again, maybe it's just all the delicate, beautiful ones on display to attract those in to shop for others. Embarrassed, he lifts up a gloved hand to touch at his jawline, dabbing away the sweat from his work.
It's awkward, but in this place, he doesn't think too many people know what to do or how to go about any of it--so he does what a real hero might do, and opens his mouth. ]
You interested? [ He might get mistaken for a merchant, at this rate, though the heavy sword at his back likely dissuades the idea. ] Think I get one of these on the house, but I'm not gonna use it, so if you want one...
[ Awkwardly, he leaves the offer open ended. ]
BRING PROTECTION.
[ Something pretty but practical, like the scarves, at least make sense to him--but as he's heading back to the inn, where Aerith should be, he realizes with some annoyance that other merchants, those specializing in jewelry, are selling trinkets of their own. They're for warding, he hears a jovial voice call out over the sound of the crowd: protection from evil, from terrible things, from all that one's imagination can create!
With his narrowed gaze, he leans in closer to one of the stalls: sure, these little trinkets look alarmingly similar, in some ways, to the accessories they used to use back home for protection. But if the vendors won't even be straight about what they really do, can they really be trusted? Folding his arms against his chest, he examines the wares and, idly, notices someone near him doing the exact same thing.
The desire to remain unnoticed has him biting his tongue for a moment--but honestly, if he's going to try to make it here, at least for as long as it'll take to get back home, he's going to have to create a reputation all over again. This means, unfortunately, more word of mouth. ]
Pretty sure these won't do any good. [ He's quiet, so it could be mistaken for him talking to himself. ] What do you need to be protected from?
[ There, now it's more obvious he's talking to the person next to him. His blue-green gaze flickers up, slightly, before jerking back down again, swallowing. ]
FLOWERS FOR ALDRIP.
[ Does he know a thing or two about gardening? Absolutely not.
But in theory, it makes sense. For one, he knows not to step on them once they're grown--that part is apparently important, and it seems obvious. They need sunlight, and water, and beyond that, maybe the right soil, but if any of these flowers are like the ones that Aerith used to tend to, way back in the slums, he has no idea. Either way, they can't be all that different: and though he doesn't have a green thumb, he does have enough training to be able to listen to instructions and execute them. He may have been terrible in training, but--
There's a soft jerk of his thoughts, redirecting him, and his brows crease. Crouched in the dirt, the knees and thighs of his pants smeared with it, he can feel the headache threaten: with a breath, it passes by, as though not comparing himself too closely to anything from before helps, as though letting thoughts of Shinra and SOLDIER float away from him for the moment does more help than harm. With a sigh, he lets his gaze settle on the flower bulbs in front of him. He's nearly done with the row, at least.
Carefully, gloved hands pat down the soil at the roots, eyeing the little nub of the flower bulb that seems to be peeking out of the dirt. ]
...Guess you don't have much to say. [ Yes, he's talking to the flowers: though it would be understandable if someone mistook him for talking to himself. ] Am I just the wrong kind of person? Or are you shy?
[ He gives the mound of dirt another firm pat with his palm, as though trying to reassure the row of flowers otherwise. ]
WILDCARD & OOC.

zephyr | tales of arise | open
[ The concept of a market was still something that was going to take time to get used to, especially for someone like Zephyr. Calaglia wasn't known for having things as "luxurious" as shops and he'd spent a good thirty-odd years stealing supplies and other various amenities from the soldiers who ruled over the realm with (literal) iron fists. He'd tagged along on a few trips over the past few weeks but he'd never gone out and poked around by himself until today and probably for good reason:
He looked lost and that had been something the merchants took full advantage of. Over the span of an hour he's ushered through no less than a dozen stalls and vendors hawking their wares from scarves (which he'd wound up leaving with four before he'd known what had happened) and finally culminating with a stop to an odd little jewelry stall. It had taken the guy twenty minutes to foist something upon Zephyr in exchange for one of the scarves he'd ended up with, leaving the older Dahnan to stare down at the object he'd dropped into his hand.
They had said it was a crow. The longer Zephyr looks at it, the less certain he is.
Still, it's too late to try and barter for the scarf back. After a long while of staring he looks back over his shoulder towards where the stall was - the owner having vanished to try and find another unwitting Lost Soul - and frowns to himself. ]
...He never did tell me what it's supposed to do.
[ He got that it was supposed to be some sort of protection but... Protection from what? ]
II. A peony for your thoughts?
[ Now, farming? That's something he has a little more experience with. Sort of. When someone had asked if he could help haul a few wheelbarrows down to the field and help plant a few things, Zephyr had been expecting something familiar like, well. Vegetables. Potatoes, beans, that sort of thing, you know? After the fields of wheat and other various crops further out it definitely would've made sense to him.
He didn't expect to see rows and rows of flowers.
A few wheelbarrows of soil and fertilizer turned into a row or two worth of planting seeds, budding flowers, and a few chunks of stems covered in sharp thorns that may or may not have "bitten" Zephyr a few times. The longer they have him digging, the more time he gets to spend marveling over pretty much everything. For instance: the dirt was actually dirt and not hard the hard clay he'd grown up with in the wastes. There were no succulents in sight, and outside of the aforementioned roses none of them were inherently risky to touch. And the colors... Gods, the colors.
Eventually he forces himself to take a break. He could easily go back to Aldrip proper, but no. No, Zephyr hauls himself up onto a few crates off to the side, a damp rag in hand to wipe away as much dirt as he can from his skin, and simply looks. The markets were still new and a little strange to him, yes, but this was... ]
I've never seen anything like this before. It's so... green.
[ Not just green, but the point still stands. ]
