i. dojo
[ There's a large dojo at the edge of Aldrip. It's vacant on most days with the doors locked shut. But if you stop by on certain days of the week, you'll find the gates wide open for any curious visitors.
It's kept clean despite no one living there. Sometimes, you can find food in its kitchen. There's even a TV with a couple of game consoles hooked up to it. It doesn't look like anyone will mind if you give them a try.
There are a few rooms on the second floor. It looks like some people might have once lived here, probably some high school kids. Others are left empty, but there are beds available if people wished to stay there.
For those who can still recall those who once were, this is the Sano Family's dojo, once under the care of Manjiro "Mikey" Sano. They may recall that it was a place where a couple other Chosen once called their home. Either way, it seems there's not a single trace of them outside of their old belongings.
This dojo has a new caretaker now: Minato Arisato. He doesn't seem to mind people stopping by and poking around. Plus, given the ruined residential district, he's opened the place up for people to stay. ]
ii. restoration
[ Aldrip's a mess. It's debris, debris, and more debris as far as the eye can see. But in truth, it's... a little nostalgic. There'd been a mess to clean up in Aldrip upon Minato's arrival too. Things have simply come full circle.
You might find him in the residential district, helping to clear away ruins of destroyed buildings. He might not be particularly strong, but Minato's determined to help with his own hands. He's volunteered to help clean some soot off the few homes that did survive A2's black box explosion.
Or, he might be at city center, putting his work-in-progress gardening skills to use. He imagines that even the little things, like replanting flowers in the gardens and green spaces, might do wonders to boost morale.
Otherwise, he may be at the farmhouse checking on the animals there. The prior month's chaos caused some of the farm animals to flee to the forest. Fortunately, Minato and Koromaru managed to track down all of them, but he still seems a little worried about them breaking out again. He seems a bit concerned about ensuring they all have enough food too, given how all the businesses are closing down... ]

[It almost feels weird to slip into a seat, sitting here in Mikey's kitchen without Mikey or any of its normal occupants here. Minato's a good friend, but he wasn't someone that he normally associated with the dojo. Is it time to change that? Maybe. He's glad that the other teen is here anyway, not only taking care of the place, but making it seem less lonely. This is what Yu and everyone else that used to live here would want, right? The dojo still being used, teacups and everything else in it.
Maybe if he closes his eyes now, he can imagine them smiling.
His mouth twitches upward, the mutant nodding at the offer. He doesn't drink a ton of tea, but that sounds nice right now.]
I could go for a cup. [...] I'm glad you took over the dojo, Minato.

There's still some freshly-boiled water in the kettle. Minato retrieves a teabag and sets it within the teacup, carefully measuring out some hot water. He'll set the tea in front of Scott once he's returned to the table, all before taking his own seat again. ]
I'm just...
[ Was it truly that meaningful for him to do so? Minato takes a small sip of his own tea before staring down at his reflection within it.
He glances back up at Scott with a small shrug, though it's clear that he's been down as well about the recent disappearances. ]

Yu entrusted the key to Minato and he's just really glad to see him here, offering it as shelter. Keeping it maintained on some level, because no one else is probably doing it. It's what Yu would've wanted, Scott's sure about that, a place where people can go if their homes got damaged. A place where friends can gather or maybe where strangers can meet and bond.]
The first time...?
[Scott slightly prods, not quite following Minato's line of thought yet, although he has a small inkling of what it may be. Still, he wants to hear Minato fully talk about it first because he's interested in hearing what the teen is about to say. His own experience. He has always counted Minato and Kotone to be two separate people, but there's no denying their similarities, like how it's hard for them to open up at times.]

He nods in response. That's right, the first time... back when Manjiro disappeared shortly after his falling-out with the others. Minato never did find out what happened within the tower that caused the others to distance themselves from Manjiro. He simply didn't think it was any of his business. ]
Mhm. When he disappeared and came back different. ...Yu and Yosuke weren't here.
[ They'd left before Manjiro disappeared, and it didn't look like they'd returned while he was gone. ]
I saw how important this place was to him, so I thought -- it'd make him sad to come back to it all dusty.
[ Manjiro seems to be gone for good, and yet Minato finds himself here once again. ]

Minato probably feels the same way, huh? He's just been busying himself with focusing on this.]
I didn't know that you kept this place clean for him. [Minato really is a thoughtful person though...] I'm sure Mikey appreciated it then and I think he'd appreciate it now, even if he doesn't return.
[He'd also be glad that his dojo is being used in some way too, right? Scott smiles a little at Minato.] Did Mikey bully you into being his friend too?

[ A small smile tugs at the corners of Minato's mouth. Even if it wasn't something that would make Manjiro happy, perhaps he'd find himself gravitating here anyways to do the same.
He takes a sip of his own tea before gazing down at his reflection. ]
I don't know about bullying, but...
[ The smile from earlier is gone, replaced with a frown now. ]
Before he disappeared, we... had a fight, I guess. He was... worried about me.
[ ... ]
I think I got... scared, maybe, that someone would be that afraid for me.

He's more interested with what Minato is talking about. The teen's kind of opening up in his own way, perhaps? He thinks so. He feels like it's something important, especially if he shares that whole 'don't really talk about yourself' trait that Kotone has. Hence, he keeps his hands around his cup, not even really drinking, and listening to Minato.]
Worried that you would put yourself in harm's way easily? Or that you'd keep everything to yourself? [Scott asks, figuring to just be blunt about this. He's... always kind of blunt anyway.]

I think he was worried that I'd push people away like he did.
[ Minato sighs before lifting his cup to his lips to take a sip of his tea. Was it truly possible for two separate individuals to understand precisely what was running through the others' head? On the other hand, it's not as though Manjiro was wrong.
Bottling things up without letting anyone in -- that's already landed him in trouble in the past, hasn't it? ]
...I guess I don't want to make the same mistake again, if I can help it.
[ That lack of resolution wasn't exactly a good feeling. ...well, maybe he's made some good progress after all.
Minato looks up at Scott, a small but weary smile on his face. ]
Relying on others when things are hard -- that's not a bad thing at all, is it?

[And it sort of pissed him off, although Scott's been trying a lot harder to not lash out when something like that happens. Hasn't helped in the past, won't help now. Besides, it's clear that Minato is taking in that advice in his own way, something that he wants to help support as much as possible. He's an important friend to him, not just because he's similar to Kotone, but because he's Minato. He's his own person.
If Scott had to deal with like five different versions of himself, then of course he has to think this way. So, he watches the other teen, letting him work through his own thoughts, the advice that Mikey left him. It's not like Scott hasn't done something like that before, although he had the benefit of going to the biker later on. Maybe he can give Minato some resolution in his place?
A small smile forms on Scott at first, before it turns into something almost bright. Something completely genuine as Minato comes to his own conclusion about everything.]
It's not a bad thing at all. Welcome to finally understanding friendships.

Minato takes another sip of his tea to hide his small smile. A year spent learning how to become a pillar from others was a year not spent realizing those he'd befriended expected him to do the same. And to think it was lesson he'd wrapped his head around only after passing from his own world... Well, better late than never.
He looks over at his company, muted curiosity in his eyes. ]
...did you use the dojo as an excuse to check in on me?
[ Or maybe Scott was here to kill two birds with the same stone. ]

I don't have to do things simply for one reason.
[Yes, he did use the dojo as an excuse to check on him, but he genuinely wanted to see the building for itself. Walk around it, stare at a few spots and recall memories that are now more bittersweet with the disappearance of mutual friends, but maybe made even more important. 'Live each day to the fullest' says Kotone, but also look back at the past too, right? And maybe hope for tomorrow still.
Things can change or someone can disappear in a day, yes, but... he doesn't want to just think that way anymore.] Just wanted to make that you weren't being sad all by yourself again.

Minato heads for the stovetop to retrieve the kettle of still-warm water. He returns to the table with it in hand, lifting it up a bit to ask if Scott wanted a refill. ]
I think I might be here for a bit instead of the inn. So... you should visit again, whenever you'd like.
[ Over time, old memories of those who'd once called this place their home may fade. But that doesn't mean new ones can't be formed to fill in those empty nooks and crannies left behind. ]

[ Said room is still scant of physical possessions, other than Manjiro's barbed wire bat and the little rabbit plush Kotone sewed for him. ]

[He's going to give Minato one of his posters at this rate... he has one of a motorcycle and since he has a real one now, he can give the poster to his friend. He's so generous like that.
That teasing smile flickers slightly, hearing the never been anywhere long enough and okay. They're definitely going to help decorate his room. This sounds like something that Kotone should get involved in. Maybe Minato's other friends too. The other teen may be kind of quiet, but there's sort of a magnetism to him.]

Scott clearly isn't thinking too hard about those kind of things, what matters is just personalizing your space with stuff you like. That's the kind of room he lived in back at home and now here. It's just he's also sharing his room with Kotone about 95% of the time... a sacrifice that he's willing to make.

And of course a motorcycle poster makes a good backdrop for a bunny plush. It's not just any old motorcycle poster; it's a motorcycle poster that's being offered by one of his dear friends, to act as a backdrop for something gifted to him by another precious friend. ]

It's because that he's known Kotone for almost two years now that something understanding flashes crosses his face, though it's quickly mixed in with a small smirk. Somehow he's adopted this teasing smile that's trying its best to be supportive-- and maybe it's not fair to blame just Kotone for this. So many of his friends are just socially awkward and weird and he's felt almost 'normal' in comparison, despite the eye beams. It's familiar.
He tries really hard to feel normal at times, a feeling that he's tried to extend to said friends because sometimes you just need to feel like a regular teenager despite all the crap going on around you. He's a X-Man now, in training to be part of a mutant vigilante group, but...]
Music, movies, cars, hell, we can even go with animals. Just stuff that Minato likes, without anyone's input. [He points at Minato as if to emphasize his point.] We'll do our best to find something similar in Aldrip for you to put in your room.

[ Scott gets a small nod. There's an answer he feels pretty confident about offering. But Koromaru already lives in his room, so: ]
Dogs?
[ Surely Aldrip has dog-themed decor available? And if not, perhaps there's someone among the Chosen who were artistically inclined. A whole dojo full of dog themed items feels like overkill, but maybe one or two items for his room in line with that theme would be pretty nice. ]

[Yeah... that's definitely good. It's a start for sure. He wonders if it's too much to ask Minato what kind of dogs that he likes the most, so maybe he'll just go with 'breeds that look like Koromaru.' Probably a safe bet. He can't overwhelm Minato too much, right? Scott tries to hide his growing smile by drinking more of his tea, but it's clear that the mutant is quite pleased by Minato's answer.]

[ Would that be asking too much of Kotone? The last thing Minato wants to do is impose on her, but based on the crease in Minato's brow, he's clearly thinking very hard about what it might look like to have a mini Koromaru to go with the bunny Minato. ]

[ Minato's gaze lands on Scott. Sure, he and Kotone technically experienced very similar years at Port Island, but other than that... Scott's known her for much longer, hasn't he? ]
