i. dojo

[ There's a large dojo at the edge of Aldrip. It's vacant on most days with the doors locked shut. But if you stop by on certain days of the week, you'll find the gates wide open for any curious visitors.

It's kept clean despite no one living there. Sometimes, you can find food in its kitchen. There's even a TV with a couple of game consoles hooked up to it. It doesn't look like anyone will mind if you give them a try.

There are a few rooms on the second floor. It looks like some people might have once lived here, probably some high school kids. Others are left empty, but there are beds available if people wished to stay there.

For those who can still recall those who once were, this is the Sano Family's dojo, once under the care of Manjiro "Mikey" Sano. They may recall that it was a place where a couple other Chosen once called their home. Either way, it seems there's not a single trace of them outside of their old belongings.

This dojo has a new caretaker now: Minato Arisato. He doesn't seem to mind people stopping by and poking around. Plus, given the ruined residential district, he's opened the place up for people to stay. ]

ii. restoration

[ Aldrip's a mess. It's debris, debris, and more debris as far as the eye can see. But in truth, it's... a little nostalgic. There'd been a mess to clean up in Aldrip upon Minato's arrival too. Things have simply come full circle.

You might find him in the residential district, helping to clear away ruins of destroyed buildings. He might not be particularly strong, but Minato's determined to help with his own hands. He's volunteered to help clean some soot off the few homes that did survive A2's black box explosion.

Or, he might be at city center, putting his work-in-progress gardening skills to use. He imagines that even the little things, like replanting flowers in the gardens and green spaces, might do wonders to boost morale.

Otherwise, he may be at the farmhouse checking on the animals there. The prior month's chaos caused some of the farm animals to flee to the forest. Fortunately, Minato and Koromaru managed to track down all of them, but he still seems a little worried about them breaking out again. He seems a bit concerned about ensuring they all have enough food too, given how all the businesses are closing down... ]

Wait, really? Never decorated your own room before?

[He's going to give Minato one of his posters at this rate... he has one of a motorcycle and since he has a real one now, he can give the poster to his friend. He's so generous like that.

That teasing smile flickers slightly, hearing the never been anywhere long enough and okay. They're definitely going to help decorate his room. This sounds like something that Kotone should get involved in. Maybe Minato's other friends too. The other teen may be kind of quiet, but there's sort of a magnetism to him.]

You might as well start now. I'll even give you a helping hand... you can have one of my posters.

[ Scott gets a headshake in response. Nope. Honestly, he hadn't really had his own room until moving in to the Iwatodai Dorm. Most of his life had been spent tucked away in a spare guest room, or if space was particularly dire at his relatives' place, a futon rolled out in the living room. And even after he'd been given his own room at the dorms, he'd... never quite gotten around to personalization.

His eyes seem to light up at the prospect of being gifted a poster. ]

Really?

[ Maybe it was an offhand offer from Scott, but Minato's the sort who treasures a gift no matter how small or mundane it might be. And so, to be offered one of Scott's prized posters -- he's touched, truly. ]

...maybe I'll hang it near Arisato Junior.

[ The little bunny doll Kotone sewed for him! ]

[The way Minato brightens upon hearing his suggestion... yeah, it's final. He's 100% giving him that poster. Plus it is a nice thought of his friend hanging up something that he gave him.]

Talking about the bunny plush Kotone made you, right? Yeah, my poster will be a perfect backdrop for him.

[Is a motorcycle poster really a good background for a bunny plush...? Oh well. Scott clearly isn't thinking too hard about those kind of things, what matters is just personalizing your space with stuff you like. That's the kind of room he lived in back at home and now here. It's just he's also sharing his room with Kotone about 95% of the time... a sacrifice that he's willing to make.

He's so noble.] What else do you like?

[The hardest question of them all--]

[ Scott gets a nod because he's right on the money. But wait -- how did he know?

Guess there aren't very many secrets between him and Kotone...

And of course a motorcycle poster makes a good backdrop for a bunny plush. It's not just any old motorcycle poster; it's a motorcycle poster that's being offered by one of his dear friends, to act as a backdrop for something gifted to him by another precious friend. ]

What else...?

[ Ah... Not that pesky question... Minato's brow creases. ]

What do you mean?

[ Can Scott at least narrow it down by category for him? ]

[Maybe not the most surprising of answers.

It's because that he's known Kotone for almost two years now that something understanding flashes crosses his face, though it's quickly mixed in with a small smirk. Somehow he's adopted this teasing smile that's trying its best to be supportive-- and maybe it's not fair to blame just Kotone for this. So many of his friends are just socially awkward and weird and he's felt almost 'normal' in comparison, despite the eye beams. It's familiar.

He tries really hard to feel normal at times, a feeling that he's tried to extend to said friends because sometimes you just need to feel like a regular teenager despite all the crap going on around you. He's a X-Man now, in training to be part of a mutant vigilante group, but...]

Music, movies, cars, hell, we can even go with animals. Just stuff that Minato likes, without anyone's input. [He points at Minato as if to emphasize his point.] We'll do our best to find something similar in Aldrip for you to put in your room.

[ The thing about music, movies, and cars, is that Minato isn't that picky about any of those. Even with music, he'll truly listen to just about anything. Animals, on the other hand... ]

Koromaru.

[ Scott gets a small nod. There's an answer he feels pretty confident about offering. But Koromaru already lives in his room, so: ]

Dogs?

[ Surely Aldrip has dog-themed decor available? And if not, perhaps there's someone among the Chosen who were artistically inclined. A whole dojo full of dog themed items feels like overkill, but maybe one or two items for his room in line with that theme would be pretty nice. ]

We can definitely work with that. [Koromaru is a good dog, so he gets it!!] Get a couple of items for your room that's dog-themed.

[Yeah... that's definitely good. It's a start for sure. He wonders if it's too much to ask Minato what kind of dogs that he likes the most, so maybe he'll just go with 'breeds that look like Koromaru.' Probably a safe bet. He can't overwhelm Minato too much, right? Scott tries to hide his growing smile by drinking more of his tea, but it's clear that the mutant is quite pleased by Minato's answer.]

Maybe we can get Kotone to make a Koromaru plush for Minato Jr.

[ Definitely a good start. How hard could it possibly be to hunt down dog-themed items? ]

Koromaru Junior...?

[ Would that be asking too much of Kotone? The last thing Minato wants to do is impose on her, but based on the crease in Minato's brow, he's clearly thinking very hard about what it might look like to have a mini Koromaru to go with the bunny Minato. ]

Maybe, yeah.

[ ... ]

Someday, I think I should give Kotone something in return.

[ Minato's gaze lands on Scott. Sure, he and Kotone technically experienced very similar years at Port Island, but other than that... Scott's known her for much longer, hasn't he? ]

Yeah.

[It's definitely going to happen now. He can't imagine Kotone being anything but excited at the idea of this anyway. He knows how she feels about her friends and considering the connection that she shares with Minato... yeah. This is definitely a good idea. Good job, Summers.

But oh. He sees that expectant look from Minato. And of course he's going to help him out. The two sad teens giving each other gifts--]

She'd like that. [A lot. Presents from the people she cares about... it matters a lot to her.] Something thoughtful from Mr. Arisato himself... a plush in return? Although I heard that she likes hair accessories.

[ A plush in return isn't out of the question. Minato learned to sew alongside Bebe, their afternoons spent in the home economics room. But then Scott mentions hair accessories, and that gives Minato pause. That's right... Kotone always had those hair clips keeping her bangs away from her face. ]

Hair accessories...?

[ Hm. Maybe some kind of a bow? Or maybe a hair tie sewn from a particular fabric he picked out? The wheels are clearly turning in Minato's head as he mulls over all his different options.

Ah. Wait. Scott's still here, isn't he... ]

I'll keep that in mind.

[ Based Scott and his great gift ideas. Maybe he should be thinking of something to give in return for Scott's poster, but maybe seeing Kotone smile would be enough of a gift for him. ]

[He can see those little cogs in Minato's brain turning... his work here is done. Idea has been given and so he'll leave the rest to Minato. Kotone isn't really that hard to please anyway, but he has a feeling that whatever his friend comes up with, it'll be something that she'll really like and cherish.

She'll definitely be happy and that makes Scott smile. But also, way too mushy!!]

But yeah, I'll stop by and bring the poster to you later this week. [And then maybe go out and find something dog-related to decorate his room?? If Minato hasn't done so already. Force him to pick something out......]

[ Life is too short not to lean into the mushy, Scott... Indeed, that would be Minato's line of thinking.

Well, if Scott plans on stopping by, he'll have to be here to greet him. Maybe he really will start slowly bringing his items from the inn over to the dojo. ...it's about time, perhaps, after a year spent living someplace that was supposed to be temporary. ]

[ The small sip of tea hides the smile on Minato's face, though it shines through nevertheless in his eyes. Slowly turning this place into one not just for himself, but one for others who had nowhere else to go... Yes, that sounds like a truly good idea. ]
