[ rogue hadn't said much during their entire trip here. it's not like she was trying to be unfriendly, but there's been a lot of information circling around for the past several hours, and she's still trying to wrap her head around every detail.
but her job during this whole mission is simple enough: protect the terminal from getting damaged. and giving the conversation she had with fauna some time ago through via network, the mutant is fully prepared to have the girl to make an appearance in due time. and fauna did not disappoint. rogue knows talking her down will be a fruitless thing to do, but it can't hurt to try anyway. with her arms folded over her chest, she stands side by side with her teammate. ]
Listen, Sweetie, I don't wanna be here as much as you do. But these folks been here longer than all three of us put together. Maybe they're on to somethin', and if what we're doin' turns out wrong, then... we'll figure out somethin' else. The X-Men always do.
[She growls. The fury in her has built up- She doesn't seem like she'll be able to be dissuaded.]
I even picked this one so that I wouldn't run into anyone... I could just smash it and leave, so I wouldn't have to hurt anyone. And you two... I thought you got it.
[There's betrayal in her voice. Hurt and pain. And not just from the X-Men- It seems like she's just overlaying them with a long procession of similar events.]
... But I should've guessed. Everyone's always the same. You're just like everyone else. You talk a big game about helping people, but when it comes to it, you'll just fall in line with the majority. Other people say this won't do anything, so you believe it. Other people say it's fine to kill the AI, so it's fine. You'll 'figure something else out'- After it's already too late.
[She lifts her left sleeve, showing a strange device on her wrist.]
[She pulls the strange magatama off her choker, and crushes it in her hand. When she opens her hand... the magatama has split in two. She raises the magatama high into the air, then slams them down into the brace's slots, gripping the brace and rotating her arm to close it.
And immediately, her body is shrouded in darkness. It's as though night fell, only around her. And what remains is the red glow of her eyes... which has another red glow cover them. A strange, mechanical voice utters a stranger comment:
"The fox arrives!"
Then... claws rend the darkness apart, leaving only a new figure standing in Fauna's place.
When she speaks, the mask distorts her voice somewhat, but it is still unmistakably Fauna's voice.]
[The armored figure standing in front of them now... Morph can't tell if that's magic or some sort of advanced technology, but at the moment it didn't matter as much. If no one could talk Fauna down, they'd just have to do this the hard way.]
None of us can make this decision for everyone! Don't you think it's better to work as a team!?
[Maybe Morph didn't know the full extent of what Fauna could do, but Rogue was here, and working as a team was their strength. Hours fighting together in the Danger Room and on the field was quite possibly the best advantage they had, and their first problem with a brawl so close to the terminal was already obvious.]
Rogue, we need distance!
[As soon as they shout it, Morph rapidly shapeshifts to a form Fauna would be familiar with, the white-haired speedster in the blue costume. Only a second later, they burst forward at a speed almost faster than sight - but they're not trying to land a blow. If Morph can get close enough, they're aiming to grab Fauna's left upper arm and flat-out drag her away from the terminal.]
[ as fauna transforms, rogue bears down on her teeth and clenches her fists tight. she figured talking her down will do absolutely nothing, but maybe if they can just keep her busy until the rest of their team can do whatever needs to be done with the terminal, that will be enough. but that doesn't mean keeping her busy will not result in all of this getting messy. because she has a funny feeling it's going to. ]
Hey now, you supposed to say, "GO" before the race, Sugah, that's cheatin'...!
[ regardless of the wisecracker comment, rogue pushes all her weight to her feet and darts right behind her partner. she spots morph aiming for fauna's left upper arm, which she brings her to a decision to gear to the right. with the two of them going in rapid speed, it can be a team effort of pulling the girl off and away from the others. ]
What "team"?! You were just as pissed as I was, and now you're-
[As soon as she sees Morph shift, she's on guard. She saw that before. Super speed.
It's not like Fauna's never fought someone with super speed before. The X-Men may have their experiences in the Danger Room, but Fauna's been fighting alone for years. Her greatest weapon is the experience she's had against all sorts of monsters. She was the executioner, the one who destroyed the monsters who turned against the Goddess. Those who had gained strength, and believed themselves above their circle. It was Fauna's duty to destroy them. Every kind of power, every kind of weapon, everything she can imagine, she's faced before.
So when Morph speeds at her, she's already identified his target and twisted away. She can't match him in speed, but she can twist and make herself hard to hit. As long as she doesn't make herself an easy target, she can handle Morph-
Which leaves herself open to being grabbed by Rogue. Too focused on the one she knew was a threat, and left her open to the other one. She curses to herself, but she's being carried away...
She twists herself upright, though, using the grab Rogue has on her as a pivot to try to flip up and kick her in the back of the head.]
[Though Morph doesn't get a hold of Fauna, they know that Rogue is more than up to the task of carrying an armored person, so they don't even try to make another attempt at grabbing her. In Quicksilver's form it's not too hard for Morph to keep up, dashing along with the two of them to wherever Rogue decides to drop Fauna off at.]
Wewon'tmakeiteasyforyou!
[Okay, so they still don't quite have the hang of speaking at a slower speed than they were running at. This form was best for short bursts, because it was a body built for speed and nothing else, and it wasn't terribly easy on Morph to keep it up.]
[ her main goal is to haul fauna so far away from everyone else that maybe it'll result in morph being left behind, with only her and the girl alone with the massive sea. if she can succeed in that, and if rogue fails to keep her elsewhere, it would mean fauna would have to travel all the way back again. or another option? just dump her in the ocean and keep her there (not letting her drown, of course) until their team was done.
however instead of all of this, the kick to her head catches rogue by surprise and she grunts at the hit while she plummets down to the earth — her grasp loosening on fauna enough for her to shake free if she is quick about it. the mutant doesn't leave too big of a crater, but there's a print she leaves behind due to the strike, and a bit of a daze too. it's going to take her a few seconds for her double vision to clear out. ]
[It's the perfect chance- She shakes out of Rogue's grasp, rolls, and springs up all in one fluid motion. Her movements make it clear: This isn't just some amateur coasting by on her powers. She has experience and skills to back them up.
With Rogue in a daze, she has a few seconds to handle Morph. His talking is faster, too- Does this make it time acceleration? Or is he just uncoordinated? He turned into someone else... That means it's not his power. He's just copying someone else. That should mean there's a weakness she can exploit.
She reaches into her sleeves, and pulls out two ofuda. One is hurled at Rogue- It detonates into a fireball right in front of her. Though of course the fire hurts, the main point is to be a flashbang. Bright light, forceful impact, loud bang, all directly in front of her should hopefully keep her down long enough for her to handle Morph.
As for Morph... The second ofuda is flung to the ground right in front of him, where the ground freezes over into slick ice. She can press the advantage once they're both down on the ground.]
[Okay, that Fauna could hit Rogue hard enough to faze her like that was bad, they needed to do something -
The thought completely leaves Morph's head when the patch of ice unexpectedly forms in front of them. Hitting it at super-speed means they loose their footing spectacularly, thudding hard onto the ice, their momentum sending them skidding forward a ways until they slow to a stop.
They quickly shift back to their natural form before fumbling to push back up to their feet, wincing in pain,] MORE magic? What is it with you people?!
[ she is still a bit in a daze when she spots the fireball hurling towards her, and luckily for rogue, she flies out of the way in the nick of time, but not unscathed. rogue removes her boot as quick as possible before the flames do some real damaged to her leg, and she twists her head up in a snarl. ]
Those were expensive and my only set...!!
[ not holding back, she zips forward to her opponent again, only this time, she curls her left hand into a stone hard fist. ]
Alright, Foxy Love, you're gonna have to shimmer down before you lose your tail!!
[ and with that, rogue pulls her entire arm back then speed jabs an uppercut to fauna's masked chin. she's hoping the punch will hit hard enough it'll create some dents or cracks to it, but as morph exclaimed, people and their stupid magic. ]
[Two on one is not where Fauna wants to be. But it's where she is. So she's gonna have to deal with it.
Rogue's complaint about the boot doesn't seem too elicit much sympathy.]
Grow up and steal another pair.
[You know, like she does.
Still, that's... going to be painful. She could block- No, her instincts tell her. Her barrier would ground her as well, and pinning herself in place would just make her a sitting duck for Morph.
So instead, she jumps. The punch connects with her chin- If she weren't transformed, she'd be spitting some blood out at that- but Night Wild is already in the air, letting that punch help move her. The uppercut propels her upwards and backwards, which she turns into a backflip, braking to hover in the air a few feet off the ground.
Three more fireballs are thrown at Rogue in rapid succession. None of them particularly powerful, but the point is just to put her on the defensive- A follow-up right now could hurt.]
[The ice sucks, but Morph's not about to stand around waiting for it to melt. While Fauna's preoccupied with Rogue, Morph takes the opportunity to shift again, growing a good foot and a half and bulking up along with it, their skin forming into hard metal plates.
The ice starts to crack underneath their weight, and they purposefully stomp down harder as they charge forward, making their feet go through the ice so that slipping will no longer be a problem. It slows them down considerably, though, leaving Morph more at an angry jog than at any speed to be a surprise. They're just intent on getting close to Fauna, or pulling her attention away from Rogue again.]
Enough! [they shout, their voice changed along with the new form, now sporting a thick Russian accent.] You put too much at risk! We are trying to preserve the AI, or else we would not be here!
[ she's thankful her fist made contact, but if only it could have knocked the girl out unconscious. so much for that being an easy solution. the fireballs that are rushing towards her, rogue had expected coming from a mile away.
and while she managed to scrape the first two, the three is what snags her as she quickly spins to use her back as a shield than her front. the mutant barks out in pain, and hovers down to collapse to her knees — gritting her teeth tight to tolerate the burn. although the back of her suit is somewhat torched and her skin exposed with burns, rogue doesn't let up as she forces her body to stand upright again. she won't charge just yet (although she should. it might be better for the two of them to keep going at her simultaneously than separate.), the red-head needs a second or two to catch her breath before rushing back in. ]
[Good. If Rogue is down, that lets her focus her attention on the slow... metal...
Okay, that's a new form. But it's a form with weaknesses. They're slow, and more importantly, Fauna has an answer. Her form is an Onmyouji- Astrologers and diviners who used the power of the five elements, and yin and yang. The five elements of wood, water, metal, earth, and fire. And in that cycle... Fire overcomes metal.
This time, she hurls five talismans to the ground under Morph. Five talismans form a five-pointed star, surrounded by a yin-yang symbol... and fire erupts under them.]
Too much at risk?! What's a risk is leaving this place intact!
[Morph instinctively lifts an arm to cover their face, but essentially being covered in armor means that the damage isn't direct. Instead, they appear to be slowly melting... but instead of metal, it's white drips of goo, leaving streaks behind as they travel. That their costume doesn't immediately catch fire is because it's shifted with them, but that doesn't mean it's invulnerable, either.
More importantly, all that fire was quickly melting the ice, making the ground sodden, and that - that gave them an idea.]
Think before you act! [They roar, half frustration and half pain - stumbling out of the ring of fire, but in the same movement bending and using a large metal hand to scoop up a ball of grass and mud, promptly flinging it at Fauna's face.]
[ panting heavy, she watches the two exchange as her mind crashing on ideas and tactics on what her next move will be. although seeing morph hurling grass and mud spikes up an idea for her too, as she flies to the nearest ruin boulder that's fused to the ground. rogue yanks it out of its placement with ease (and whimpering), and holds the rock over her shoulder. ]
Hey, Morph! — You best duck and roll...!!
[ hopefully that will give them enough of a warning to stand clear as the mutant tosses the stone towards fauna's direction. could this be too extreme? maybe. but their opponent is a magic user, so one can't be too careful. but as the rock dashes through the air, rogue is jetting right behind it — ready to wind herself up to throw another jab if fauna breaks the boulder into pieces. whether it's the rock, her punch, or both, this girl may get socked with something. ]
[The mud is an annoyance- She lifts an arm, and it splatters on her sleeve. Nothing to worry about. The boulder... She braces herself against a barrier, and lifts one leg up, shattering it with a kick. The shards fly everywhere, but-
And only then does she realize. Between the mud and the boulder, she's taken her eyes off both her opponents.
[At Rouge's shout, Morph promptly dives to the side, shifting back into their natural form as they go. A couple of rock shards hit them, scraping their skin and leaving drops of white goo in their wake, but the damage closes up quickly afterward.
What does linger after their shifting is some areas of white, crusted-over gunk around their ankles and lower legs, a consequence of standing around in the fire for a little too long. But Morph is still able to roll back up to their feet without trouble, already starting in the direction that Fauna sailed in.]
Way ahead of ya, Sugah! Keep pushin' her back 'till the boys are done.
[ her back feels like it's on fire (probably literally), but she ignores the ache while forcing all of her energy to follow the direction fauna is flinging off to. if rogue has to make a predication, another fireball come be coming her way and she'll need to get herself ready to dodge it again.
although, maybe if she uses her clap soundwave, the frequency might be strong enough to either evaporate it or charge it back at her? she'll have to see if that happens. ]
[Fauna rights herself in midair, and lands on the ground on her feet. Is she a fox or a cat? But regardless, before the mutants can catch up to her, her demeanor changes. A chill in the air- Their finely-honed danger senses likely screaming at them that a dangerous one is coming.]
Do you think... I'll go down in one punch?
[Morph is a distraction. They're dripping, goo, liquid- Water. Another talisman, this time forming a swarm of rocks... Flung in the direction of the terminal, not at the enemy. Earth overcomes water- Morph will have to take that hit or let the terminal get crushed. This gives Fauna a chance to press a button on her brace.
"Fox Finisher!", the same strange voice from before announces.
A five-pointed star appears under her. She levitates into the air- When did it get dark? Yet she's inexplicably silhouetted against the full moon, as the star under her gathers the five elements, all collecting into her foot...]
Demon Claw Spiral!
[And she is blasted forward by the force of the elements, a rainbow of energy collected in her foot in one mighty kick she aims at Rogue.]
[Her assumption is right on the money - if nothing else, they have to protect the terminal, and Morph can't let that attack go any further.
They react quickly, shifting back to Colossus' larger form as they move in front of the attack, spreading their arms out to take the blows directly. There's a CLANG-CLANG-CLANG of impact as the rocks thud against their metal skin, but while they're trying to stop as many of the rocks as they can, there's not much they can do if a couple managed to get past them.
The impacts stagger Morph backwards, sending them down on one knee in the mud. Even in a sturdy form, that had hurt, and they're forced to take a moment to catch their breath.]
[ seeing the rocks dashing towards to the terminal has her heart thumping behind her rib cage, but she is grateful for morph being as quick as they are to stop the boulders from causing too much destruction.
unfortunately for her, that brief distraction was enough to throw rogue off, and the moment she spins her attention back to fauna, the kick strikes directly to her stomach — knocking the wind out of her. the mutant takes a speedy nosedive to the earth again, this time, making a bigger impact than the first crater.]
[ she's not unconscious, but between the kick and her back already injured from the burns, rogue is unable to move her body as swiftly as before. grunting through her clenched teeth, she rolls to her side, and then onto her stomach — desperately trying to at least tug her body out of the rocky crater onto flat surface. ]
[Damn- She hoped that would finish things. But with Morph pinned down, and Rogue stunned, this is her chance.
Unable to keep going in her fox form, she swaps the magatama out on her brace for a different set. The bizarre mechanical voice helpfully calls out
"Owl night! All right!"
as the fox armor changes. Now some kind of ninja, she spreads her wings.
She doesn't need to keep the attack going. Instead, she starts flying forward at her top speed, aiming for the terminal. If she can get there, she can wreck it, and this whole fight ends then and there.]
[Seeing Rogue down for the count, Morph takes Quicksilver's form again and books it after her, a blue-white blur following in Fauna's wake. Morph had a couple of flying forms, but they're not too sure if they could keep up with her using either one, and testing it would take valuable time.
It didn't matter. Morph had been smacked around enough, and at this point they were ready to take the kid gloves off.
With the aid of super-speed, they jump at Fauna's back, shifting in mid-air to a feminine form, a woman with purple hair in their own ninja-esque costume. More importantly, there's a katana clutched in either hand, and though technically a part of Morph's body it's still as strong and sharp as steel. It's with a battle cry that they attempt a jab down at each of Fauna's wings, trying to drive both katanas straight through them.]

unfortunately for her, that brief distraction was enough to throw rogue off, and the moment she spins her attention back to fauna, the kick strikes directly to her stomach — knocking the wind out of her. the mutant takes a speedy nosedive to the earth again, this time, making a bigger impact than the first crater.]
