Who: Astralin and you! Where: Meadowlands, on his new farm. What: Astralin needs help setting up his new farm, anyone is welcome to help out. Warnings: None.
Prompts below! If you want to mingle, feel free to make your own prompts.
[It wasn't unusual for people to come onto the farm. It was quickly being built, but most of it was finished. So, he isn't surprised when he sees someone unfamiliar in the chicken coop. Eyebrow raised as he takes a step forward, and unconsciously reaches for his scythe. Not that he thought this person was dangerous, but he couldn't be too sure with how late in the night it was starting to get. His eyes staring down at the young woman warily, but he didn't seem dangerous. More on guard, than anything.]
May I help you?
[His hand is still on his scythe, but unless she attacks him unprovoked, it doesn't seem like he's actually going to pull it out on her. Again, just a thing of caution, as one of the chickens immediately recognizes Astralin as it's mother, and walks past Lapis to meet Astralin. The man kneeling down to the chicken, gently holding it in his arms as the chickens don't seem to be alarmed at Lapis' sudden appearance or her demeanor, which is already a good sign for him that she didn't come here for nefarious reasons.]
[ Lapis has been to farms before, but it's never been due to... pleasant circumstances. So she's never really seen the animals - so the moment she spots the chickens, she can't resist. Maybe she should've visited earlier in the day, but she did always tend to be a nightowl; arriving in another world wasn't going to change that.
Luckily she's calm and docile enough not to send any feathers flying, and she may have been inwardly squealing a little at being able to pet one, before the... owner, she assumes, approaches. She stands up from her crouch, and then still has to crane her neck up to look at the man.
The scythe is noted, but she is a stranger on his land. She doesn't blame him for the caution, but Lapis does very much seem like a harmless young woman, if eerily calm in the face of a weapon. ]
Oh, sorry, I was just curious...
[ Her eyes drift to the bird in his arms again, and awe sparkles in her eyes once more. Flat her expression may be, it's clear she's thinking of how cute it is. ]
[The scythe is withdrawn for the time being, as he feels there is no reason to have it out. She seems to be a stranger, yes, but not a dangerous one, which is good. Nothing is screaming at him that she's a threat to him, so he's content to greet her in his usual, somewhat aloof way. His hand simply waving at the young woman now, as he lets go of the chicken that found solace in his arms. Gently motioning it back to Lapis, since she really seems to be enjoying these chickens.]
Thank you. The one you were fixated with is named 'Scramble'.
[Shinjiro... He's not going to question his son's ways, but that's one hell of a name for a chicken, that's to be sure. Still, there's no hint of laughter on his face, as he's still a bit. Surprised by the name of the chicken to begin with, but he does manage a smile when as one of the cows seem to wander into the chicken coop at the sudden commotion.]
Lapis raises a fist to cough into it for a second, though she does nod in greeting - also slightly aloof, despite her attempt to suppress a giggle. And her attention drifts back to the chicken as it's motioned back to her, not hesitating to crouch down as it waddles over. So cute... ]
Mm, that's right. I've just been exploring as I gather my bearings...
[ There's no way she could just sit still. And she perks up when she notices the cows approach, canting her head as her expression softens a little bit more. They're all super cute!! ]
Oh, and my name is Lapis. [ Being called Miss is weird. ] Are you a... native of this place?
[ It's the first thought that comes to mind, considering he's established a farm. ]
[Listen, he knows the name is a bit... Well. You know. Still, he wasn't going to say anything after his surrogate son basically named the thing. So, scramble it is and all. Out of all the chickens, this one seems to be the most social out of all of them, and once it waddles over, it stares up at Lapis and doesn't move. In fact, it looks like it's expecting a pet or two, having gotten used to the way that Astralin takes care of it.]
No, I am not. Surprisingly, I am also one of the Chosen.
[Astralin motions the cow to come toward him, ensuring that it's not in Lapis' way or anything. A genuinely happy smile appearing on his face once the cow comes forward, and he runs his hand across it's head. Eyes turning toward Lapis again, as he turns his attention to the younger girl.]
What do you think of the place so far? The natives of these lands are... Quite kind, I must admit myself. They assisted with the building, and live stock.
[Guests were starting to become a thing here, but this particular guest certainly got his attention. He had run into the man earlier in the week, and it isn't particularly surprising that he ended up on the farm. Astralin himself having been working the farms when Will stumbled upon his lands. Not that he minded, of course -- Astralin had become a bit friendlier with strangers since they were all here for a reason: their crimes.
So, when Will stumbles upon the farm, he stops hoeing the soil underneath him, and places the hoe elsewhere so he can regard the stranger in front of him with a light, but certainly visible smile on his face. Not hesitating to wave his hand as he throws off his gloves, and wipes off the grit from his skin. Faintly wondering if Will wanted a cup of tea or coffee, now that he had these things in the house.]
Good afternoon, Sir Will. May I interest you in a cup of coffee or tea? Or perhaps some fruit from the gardens?
[ Aldrip's maps are terrible in a way that makes five percent of his skin burn. There's enough to deal with to ignore for a while - obnoxious medics, concerned brats, creating a database to reference. Not yets followed by more not yets. The Rule gets louder each time.
Infraction must be rectified.
Will lasts about four days. Fine, fine, the map isn't valid evidence for reference, he'll fix it. Need a control point. Astralin's farm is an easy enough landmark - already been there, so it's a straight shot in the same direction. Turn off all external processes and let the counter work as the equalizer.
Astralin ends up walking up on a very strange scene. The- acquaintance? The narrative says acquaintance works, so go with that. The acquaintance stands across from a sword nearly his height. Sword is used loosely: it's more a black and white gash through reality, vaguely smoking at the edges. And this weirdo is using it as a surface to write on.
T: 0:14:48:630. 94.71cm/s, sc: 1027. Approximate distance of 0.873 kilometers, rounded. Reference one logged; two additional references required for official use. Repeat on the return trip. Or would that not be valid since it's the same path- Gears lock in place when Astralin says It. The cursed word. Shoulders jerk, and a Device visibly swaps back to a Person with a sound of pure disgust. ]
Ugh. No honorifics. Will's fine. [ The hand pulls back, map and all, and the ominous black claymore shoved in the ground Ceases. Ink dissolves in water, returning to nothing in seconds. ...Doesn't burn as much. Nice. Socialization should be fine without looking like a neurotic mess. ]
[This fellow looks like he's quite lost in thought, and he examines his companion a bit longer. Quietly noting the map in his hand, and that strange sword that appears to be a quill of sorts for the map. An amusing scene to say the least, but he does freeze up a bit when he realizes that Will does not seem to like the honorifics. It was a force of habit, to be quite honest, and the man simply bows as an apology. Ever the pleasant, and polite man, even if he was a bundle of nerves for the mistake.]
My apologies, Will. Welcome to my humble farm.
[There seems to be a cow coming back from grazing that slowly approaches Will's side. The cow staring directly at him, before it walks toward Astralin. Astralin happily patting it's head as it walks past and toward the barn. A quick intermission it seems, as Astralin turns his attention back to Will at the mention of coffee. He could certainly do that, but he looks a bit frazzled and he wonders if Will wants to sit down and relax inside.]
Would you like to rest in my estate while I make you a cup of coffee?
[Astralin had been working the fields today as construction continued around him. Guests and construction workers had been coming in and out of the farm, which was fine. He didn't mind at all, considering Aldrip citizens, and some of the chosen who were dragged here by their own will, or offered to help were well. Helping him out. It made things easy, even if he didn't like having a considerable amount of attention on him. It made him rather nervous after all.
Though, there was one particular guest that stood out to him. The young person that he had helped earlier when they were bleeding out the first time that he had meet them.
It's... Hard not to worry when they should be resting after their ordeal. Still, he presses the shovel into the ground of dirt underneath him so that he can regard his new guest. Quickly taking off his gloves, and throwing them into his pocket for the time being. Just as quickly walking forward now, as he greets Lion with a simple hand wave. Not yet realizing that a grazing cow is following right behind him to greet Lion in turn.]
[ In their very limited defense, they hadn't meant to get lost.
It's just- well, look. Look. There's a lot of empty meadow stretching out as far as the eye can see, and the first time through, they weren't... exactly paying that close attention to landmarks or geography. Being preoccupied with an existential crisis could do that to anyone. Surely it's a reasonable explanation, isn't it?
Ahem.
But regardless, they had no such excuse now, and today had meant to be an attempt at rectifying that basic fact. Just... find their way to the windmill, and retrace their steps back to Aldrip. It wasn't supposed to be this hard. It's- it's a town, how do they lose an entire town-- ]
--Ah, Astralin-san. It's good to see you too.
[ Thankfully for Lion's long-term wellbeing, they'd noticed the farm before too long. And, well... Astralin did say to visit anytime. What is this, then, but an excellently timed coincidence? (Or that's what they're going with, anyway.)
In practice, it looks like this: they don't actually notice his approach until he speaks up, as they've been thoroughly distracted by watching some chickens bustle around in their pen. Even at this passing glance, they look better then they did previous - no fresh injuries, for one thing, and someone must've found them clothes not covered in blood - and there's no glassy, half-real look in their eyes. Honestly, they just look normal.
In return, he's met with a warm smile, and a polite matching wave. Tit for tat. ]
Is it the afternoon already? I hadn't realized. [ A pause. ] I apologize if I'm intruding on something, then. I was just-- oh!
[ Whatever they were just doing, they don't get the chance to elaborate. That cow sure is poking her head into the conversation in turn, and like. In theory, they knew cows were large animals, but actually seeing one wander within vibe check distance is another matter entirely.
At least they look fascinated, rather then alarmed...? ]
[They look well, and he feels relieved to see them. Arms crossed as he stares over at Lion with a simple hum, noticing that Lion is looking at the chickens running around and living their lives here. It was something that he was used to, but he understands that it's not something the average person sees everyday. It's pleasing to the soul, to say the least, and Astralin can't help but smile faintly upon seeing Lion in a normal state, rather than the battered one he saw them in earlier.]
Yes, it is. But you need not worry, you are not interrupting anything. You are more than welcome to come to the farm at anytime.
[Astralin is used to the cows interrupting conversations lately, but he doesn't mind in the least. In fact, he finds it cute that the cows want to comfort Lion, too. Which is why it turns around almost immediately, and moves very close to Lion. The cow nuzzling it's head against their shoulder. A cute gesture that prompts Astralin to chuckle softly in turn. His gaze softening to see that his animals here were just as gentle and soft as back home.]
[ The cow's approach is watched with a mix of that same wide-eyed fascination and an odd undercurrent of nervousness that comes from being someone who has, genuinely, never spent any significant length of time around large animals. It's startling how firm that friendly shoulder-bump is from such a gentle animal, and it's enough to coax a surprised - but delighted - laugh out of them. ]
She does...? But how can you tell? [ Lion, honey. ] I mean- oh, that's probably obvious, isn't it...
[ But the sight earns a soft smile regardless, and one hand begins giving out some sweet, sweet chin-scratches if not stopped. ]
...But no, there wasn't any specific reason for the visit. I was just trying to familiarize myself with the local area and, ah... [ got lost-- ] ...ended up stumbling into your farm before I'd realized it.
[ The smile turns apologetic as they look across at Astralin. They assumed he wouldn't mind, based on what scant information they had. And while they can see now that it wasn't wrong, it could've been, very easily. ]
[You know, he almost wants to burst out laughing at Lion's questioning. But, to be fair, while he wasn't a mind reader of sorts, he became accustomed to learning the attitude and mannerism of animals. That, and yeah, it was sort of obvious, but Astralin isn't going to say that. Instead, he simply curves his lips into a friendly smile as the cow seems to enjoy staying near Lion for now.]
That is quite fine. Full glad am I to see you well, Lion. Our first meeting was certainly not ideal, but seeing walking around and exploring sets my mind at ease. You are more than welcome at the farm at any time, my dear.
[The apologetic smile is countered with his friendly one. Not wanting them to think that they weren't wanted here, because they certainly were. It certainly seems like the cow also likes their presence, as it's now grazing it's head against Lion's shoulder softly.]
