Who: Astralin and you! Where: Meadowlands, on his new farm. What: Astralin needs help setting up his new farm, anyone is welcome to help out. Warnings: None.
Prompts below! If you want to mingle, feel free to make your own prompts.
[The thing is, Alphen isn't exactly a farm person -- not as much as someone like Law, at least. He was in the area, though: with the increased number of zeugles monsters in recent days, he figured someone should try to keep an eye on things. Might as well be someone with a hard head and plenty of fighting experience, right? So he was just passing through.
That's when the chicken crosses the road.
It's not the sort of thing you expect to see, is it? A chicken. Crossing the road. Alphen watches it a moment and then curiously follows. When he remembers the farm nearby, he thinks better of letting the chicken wander farther away and instead rushes to catch up to it.
TL;DR, that's how Alphen ends up wandering toward the chicken coop with a clucking hen under one arm. Astralin is not hard to spot, and when he does, Alphen offers a wave and a smile.]
You don't happen to be missing one of your numbers, do you? I was wondering if this little guy might be an escapee.
[Girl, but he's got the spirit. Unfortunately he's not witty enough to say flown the coop, but I was contractually obligated to add it somewhere.]
[Odd... Astralin does notice one of the chickens missing from the coop. He has to wonder where it ran off to, and there's a bit of panic in him at the realization of his missing pet. Did it run off? Did a wolf get to it? Impossible -- he had a guard system in place so that nothing nefarious would be able to come and attack the animals. Needless to say, the ori man is definitely a bit frazzled when Alphen comes onto his land. His hand resting on top of his head, thinking of where it could possibly have gone.
That is, until he spots Alphen from afar, with a chicken in hand. A loud sigh of relief escaping from him once he realizes that it's his chicken. Astralin waving in turn, and immediately meeting Alphen halfway with his arms extended out to the chicken. The chicken finally escaping from Alphen's arms, and moving into Astralin's arms. Funny enough, the mother hen recognizing Astralin as it's Mom, which is. Kind of hilarious. But Astralin is a gentle giant.]
Oh dear, thank you for bringing her home. She truly flew the coop...
[Listen, if Alphen isn't going to say it, he's going to say it. HE'S A DAD.]
Whatever can I do to repay you? Had you not found her, she would have been good as dead. With the wolves and monsters lingering about and all...
[Thank you for this. Even if Alphen isn't grateful, I am.
There's something that's both surprising and also familiar about Astralin's reaction to the chicken; it's wriggling out of his arm almost as soon as he sees the guy. He can't help but wonder about whether the animals on the farm at home are alright, and how excited some of them might be to see Law...whenever they make it back home.
He realizes shortly thereafter that he risks being lost in thought.]
Don't mention it. Really. I'm just glad I got to her before anything else did.
[His eyes widen at the mention of repayment, though, and he waves a hand, shaking his head.]
There's no need for any of that -- I mean it. I wasn't far from here, and it's not out of my way at all. Besides. [He leans down and gives the chicken a small wave.] She was good company for the walk over.
[The chicken seems happy to be home at least, but Alphen's motion doesn't go noticed. It seems to walk back to Alphen, but doesn't do much. It's eyes staring at Alphen for a good moment, before it returns to the chicken coop with all the other chickens now. Astralin ensuring that she goes back home, as his eyes temporarily follow the chicken's movements to go back. A sigh of relief escaping from his lips as he turns his attention back to Alphen with a fairly friendly smile.]
Very well, if you are sure. That particular chicken you saved... Is named Scramble. She seems to have a knack for finding trouble... But I will ensure that she does not get loose next time.
[There's a soft chuckle in there, and Astralin takes off his dirty gardening gloves so that he can shake Alphen's hand. Surprisingly, Alphen didn't ring any of his usual paranoia, so he's at ease when he walks toward Alphen, and gently reaches out for his hand to shake it.]
My name is Astralin Turnont. I own this humble farm. And you are...?
[Alphen can't help a little smile at the chicken's behavior -- he's never had much familiarity with animals, but there's something so relatable in the way they act, sometimes. Maybe that's part of why people like them so much...he could see it, if that's the case. He gives the chicken a very small goodbye wave before turning his attention back to the farm owner.]
Scramble? Like an egg?
[Of course that's his first association with the word. Of course it is. Anyway, he offers a hand for Astralin to shake, giving a friendly smile as he does it.]
Alphen. It's nice to meet you. Have you been here long, Astralin? All of this... [He gestures at the farm.] It seems like it must have taken quite a while to get it set up.
Ah... I believe so... I do think that was Shinjiro's implication, but I never thought about it too hard. I suppose it is a bit of a dark, comedic name, but I do not have the heart to change it.
[Scramble... I mean, he's also associating Scramble with a scrambled egg, so. He's a bit of an idiot himself, to be honest, as he happily shakes Alphen's hand. The man seemed quite kind, and didn't seem to show any signs of hostility... So it was nice to be able to speak to someone without his awkwardness coming into play.]
A pleasure to meet you. I thank you again for bringing her back home.
[A pause, and his eyes dart around the farm. He has to admit, that they did get it done quite quickly... That, and he owes a huge debt to the people of Aldrip.]
Mm... No, not at all. The people of Aldrip work rather quickly, and most of the town came out to help when I built this farm. I owe them quite a great deal, in fact. But ah... I believe I came here in March. And you, Alphen? Have you been here long?
