(izana, what a complicated situation. last he found out, he's emma's half-brother, which makes him part of the family tree... and someone who had her hit with a baseball bat in the head. very confusing part of it all, and he barely processed it.
shinichiro knew. emma knew. mikey-- knew? it seems almost like he just never internalized the information.)
... Really? Shinichiro lived with us, and he's 10 years older than me. Why a loser? What he's like?

Just meant that older siblings should be out of the house at a certain age, find their own girlfriend and shit. We have our parents, so not like he needed to stick around for me.
[Even if Scott sometimes wanted Alex to stick around more, spend time with him. It's whatever. Alex has his own life and he has his. ...At least his brother still cared enough to bring him to Xavier's after his powers started up; his parents were completely useless in that regard. He's pretty sure that they're glad he's attending a boarding school now.]
He's 70% a loser. [Scott starts, almost snorting, but... something eases in the teen, a small smile replacing some of that angst that was creeping on him.] But he's a hero and everything. Has his life all figured out, probably going to do some cool things.

(and the cultural differences show once again! it's funny, isn't it? manjiro always finds it amusing when these things happen, like a little reminder that they're from different places, different worlds, and it actually makes him smile a little bit.)

[Scott responds, one shoulder lifting in a casual shrug. Culture differences and everything... Scott can respect that. Maybe Alex would've stayed longer if they lived in Japan-- okay, that's going way too much in 'what if' territory. The reality is he lived in Ohio and his brother was off somewhere else and making a difference, until he came to bring him to Xavier's.
And geez, Mikey has to go and say something like that. He knows his friend is drunk, but he also knows that he's completely sincere in his comment as well and that thought makes Scott warm. Maybe he shouldn't make a big deal out of it, because it's not like he did anything to get eye lasers, but it still means a whole lot because Mikey believes in him.
Scott doesn't know what to say at first, suddenly overcome with stupid feelings, but then the other part of Mikey's sentence fully registers in his mind and--]
40 percent?? [He laughs, because dude.] It's 30% percent, man. This is like simple math Mikey.

(ok, that actually hurts his stomach all over again with all the laughter that he can't stand to sit, he has to go back to the floor again, and this time, he's pulling his friend with him.)

[But Scott's interrupted by his own laughter as he's suddenly tugged to the somewhat hard floor. He lands with a slight oof, but the teen is still in high spirits, his laugh warm and loud as he snickers next to Mikey.]

[He definitely wouldn't leave the thinking to Mikey-- okay, he wouldn't say it that way, so maybe just the math. Yeah, he wouldn't leave anything math related to the gang leader.]
...And the speeches. [The leadership, the morale boosting. Because that's how Scott always feels when he's around Mikey. He's someone that really pulls others up when they're feeling like crap. Scott knows how that feels, being the recipient of that at least twice now.]

(sometimes, him butting in isn't even necessary. all of them can fight just right - mikey just happens to be the ex-machina that wins.
but he laughs, because scott has never heard a speech from him, not really. never seen mikey atop the stairs of the shrine where the manji gathers, speaking to his people for that boost and decision making.)
I'm more like... The winning factor, and the deciding vote. Think of it like the yakuza - you have the boss, and then the divisions, and the captains and vice-captains of those divisions, a mediator, a treasurer depending-- it's structured as hell!

[Scott jokes with slight fond exasperation, not really thinking twice about stating something like that. It's a compliment, right? He thinks so, besides, it's not untrue.]
So, like the mafia. [He doesn't know much about yakuza besides them being like... Japanese mafia or something and the more Mikey says, the more he thinks he's right about that assumption. Maybe different terms, but basically the same roles and structure.]
And you're the crime boss.
[That should be scary, but Scott continues to lie next to Mikey with that easy smile, totally comfortable around the other teen. He folds his hands behind his head as he stares at the ceiling, briefly thinking how life has led him to this particular moment, but too much thinking. Instead, he feels a wave of exhaustion hitting him, his eyes almost tugging shut as he tries to pay attention to the conversation.]
Just don't leave severed horse heads in people's beds...

(funny, because mikey would never be (as far as he knows) for that bullshit. drugs? weapons? involving civilians? not for him. not for them. what he wants is a new era, a place where they can reign fairly, honorably, be together, be. that's why the trail of blood is formed behind him. not for bullshit, but for a future for those who don't belong anywhere else.
so, there's a smile from him as he thinks about it, his place in the world, his goddamn dream. it could light up the room.
but exhaustion is taking manjiro too, and the most comfortable thing right now is scott's shoulder and chest, so that's where he finds himself next, an arm thrown on the boy for further comfort, asleep aside from the last words he speaks.)
