Higher authority itself can be blinded. [She thinks of Grannvale's aged king, mourning his son and easily swayed by those with constant access to his court, making a bad situation that much worse.] I used to believe more in them too, but I've learned to my cost that investigating for yourself is the safer thing to do.

What sort of new talent? If you don't mind my asking.

[An unfortunately thing. Something she wouldn't have believed until she saw it first hand. She had been so naïve, to believe in the Enforcers and the Council the way she had. It was all corrupt and powered by money.]

So you were unable to use magic before but it came upon you? That sounds disorienting. What sort of magic is it--battle magic, healing magic?

Exactly. I've had dealings with corruption back home, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was just as much of a problem here.

No. I've never displayed any sort of magical ability. It's rare, where I'm from. Frowned upon and considered dangerous, really. I'm not sure how it might be classified, but I seem to have some control over metals?

[She's still wrapping her head around it, so she hadn't begin to grasp the limits of what she can or can't do yet.]
