[open/mingle] everyone needs a hobby

Who: anyone in Aldrip who wants a hobby
Where: Kotone's club building!
What: It's finally time... for ~~school~~ clubs to be available.
Warnings: None as of yet, but please let me know if I need to edit this!

There's been a building under construction at the edge of town for a few months now; it looks as though at one point it had been a small warehouse for dry goods and storage that hadn't seen use in quite some time before being acquired by Kotone. When time allowed, she's been working on retrofitting it into what could almost (almost) be mistaken for a school practice building on the inside. Now, a sign has been posted on the open door, quite descriptively labeling it as Club Building Now Open!! Come in!!

🎾Gym

Interested in starting a sports team, or just want somewhere indoors and relatively open? There's a volleyball net, balls, and various other kinds of sports equipment that Kotone was able to find/buy/acquire around town for the months she's been preparing. There are also some (wooden practice) weapons available for training and sparring, and a few lockers and showers nearby. They're available for anyone to use at any time, though if anyone breaks a window with her things, she'll be so disappointed and expect help fixing it. :(

🪑"Classrooms"

While not true classrooms in that there's no school and not very many desks, there are several empty rooms available to be repurposed into an activity room. In one room, one can find a very small assortment of musical instruments; in another, a few easels and art supplies. Another room that's far better outfitted is a room with a cute handwritten sign reading Sewing Club! 💖 on its door. Inside, as one might expect, there are two dressforms and several bolts of cloth alongside some Aldrip-style (read: vintage) sewing machines, as well as plenty of needles and thread.

👩‍🍳Kitchen

One of the places that had taken her the longest to set up was the galley-style kitchen and tables. While it may not be the most modern or ornate kitchen in the world, it features the kind of appliances the Chosen would expect to find in Aldrip. It's very much a bring-your-own-ingredients situation, aside from basic spices and bulk staples that are available for anyone -- Kotone doesn't exactly have the same kind of funding a real school's Cooking Club would have, after all! -- but perhaps more importantly, it has a decent selection of pans, trays, and other cooking and baking supplies in the cabinets and cupboards.

Shinjiro has posted a simple sign that says "Cooking Club" on the door. Another sign says "Wash your hands."

⛅Roof

What would a protagonist's building be without a flat roof to climb up to and stare wistfully into the distance? It's a roof. There's a few benches, or you can just stand on it. Be careful!!

This is also where Scott's Teens With Abilities and Talents club meets. Come say hello!

[This is an open mingle! Use it for all your club-creating/club-joining purposes. Feel free to assume that as long as no one is intentionally and obviously going to cause harm with their club, Kotone will approve it and make sure they have a room and (basic) supplies! Cool, then you can see if my powers are similar to yours at all.

[Then they can... relate and shit. Or whatever. The whole purpose of this club!! Maybe it will also give Scott a better idea of Dying Will, based on how Tsuna reacts and everything.

But with that, Scott tilts his head to the sky and takes off his shades, letting those two red beams emerge from his eyes and pierce through the air without a single delay.]

[Tsuna looks up, watching the beams. And putting them in the context of concussive force means they would probably hurt if they hit someone. But Red is cool. Red is Storm Flames, but he doesn't know if Scott is a Storm yet.]

That's...wow!

I guess, seeing that in action, they'd be similar to Hard Flames.

But, is that just a constant thing?

[Shortly after, Scott closes his eyes before sliding his sunglasses back on, reorienting himself before turning his head to look at Tsuna with a slight smirk.]

Yeah, it's a constant thing. [His smile fades for a bit, like something is bothering him, but the mutant tries his best to look neutral or unaffected with what he's about to say next. It's not like he can really avoid admitting this...]

Can't turn them off, it's why I'm always wearing these sunglasses.

Is it...tough?

[A question asked honestly, and sympathetically. It is a cool power, but to have it constantly be on like that can't be easy. He's seen the extreme effects of a power you can't turn off, though very different powers in this case.]

What do you think?

[Scott retorts, but he soon grimaces, instantly regretting the way he snapped at the other teen. It's not really how he wants to act as club president and getting people to stay in said club. Like, he's fine being a dick in other situations and to other people, just not now. He pushes his anger down, trying to look more levelheaded once more.]

...Yeah, but. It's fine. [Sort of, not really?? But he's not going to dump all his feelings on Tsuna.]

[Tsuna winces, his gaze going to the ground. He supposes that the question was a little personal. Too personal.]

I’m sorry.

It’s just…I get it, sort of. I mean…my flames are more or less under control now but when I first started using them…

I shouldn’t have asked. Sorry.

[That twinge of regret builds as he watches Tsuna, an apology already forming, but Scott stops himself as he listens to what he's really admitting here. So, he's like him? Really?]

...You do? You mean you had a hard time controlling your powers at first?

Oh yeah, a lot of the time.

[Tsuna looks a little embarrassed now.]

When I first started learning how to use the Dying Will, I'd kinda go berserk, and end up in my underwear, running around town.

It took a long time to get it under control so I wouldn't do that.

[Jesus, that sounds terrible... and mostly embarrassing. Scott thought that he had it bad when he partially destroyed his old high school's bathroom when his powers first awakened; he can't imagine running around with the inability to control his ability and being in his underwear.

This knowledge does a lot to lighten Scott's mood, and even though he's clearly amused, there's something a little sympathetic in his voice as well.]

God, really? That must've been embarrassing as hell.

Extremely embarrassing. I think it's mostly faded, but I had a bad reputation at school for a while because of it.

[Being an alleged pervert on top of already being a loser was a rough time. But making friends with some of the more popular kids helped.]

But, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I sort of get it.

That sucks, man, especially if you couldn't control it...

[Yeah, he can imagine Tsuna having a pretty bad reputation at school if he was around in his underwear a lot.]

Even I can't compete with that. [Scott smiles wryly.] But thanks. I don't really have to worry about losing my clothes when I use my powers, but think I frightened some of the other mutants back at school. At least at first.

[Guess they're not really scared of him anymore?? Just of Jean, which he doesn't really get. She's pretty and cool, okay!!] They probably still would be if I didn't have these glasses.

[Truly, the days of the Dying Will Bullet are not ones that Tsuna looks back on especially fondly. He's glad he can control it now, but it also comes with the reason that Reborn will likely find a new way to torture him.

But he's able to smile regardless.]

I mean, a laser blast out of nowhere would probably scare anyone. But at least you're not doing it in your underwear to.

And I guess everyone would have to get used to everyone else's powers, right?

Heh, exactly.

[His smile increases, becoming more at ease despite the topic.]

Yeah, that's the idea, especially back at Xavier's School. We're meant to learn how to control our powers and return to society in order to become a productive member and all that crap. [Scott shrugs lightly.] Club's obviously not going to be like that, this is just a place to hang out. And learn about other... teens with talents.

[He says that last bit almost lamely, but he's stopped himself from saying 'freaks,' so character growth or whatever.]

Wow, a whole school for that.

[It's kind of hard to imagine, considering they all had focused tutors, who were...probably not the best for education but worked with the time crunches they were under. Granted, when it came to the Dying Will Flames, any sort of school would probably be a Mafia one. And Tsuna probably would have been eaten alive.]

That sounds pretty intense, but also kinda cool. But I'm glad the club's gonna be a bit more relaxed. I've done enough intense training.

Some of my friends back home can teleport, or read the minds of other students.

[Jean's definitely far more powerful than him, but that's cool, because it's sort of hot--]

Even if it's just for an hour or so once a week, it's nice to just hang out, yeah? [Feel normal, make friends. Scott doesn't say those last bits out loud, but it's definitely a driving force for him. It's what led to him skipping school with the other mutants, giving them a chance to feel like regular kids again. Kind of the same philosophy here.]

Wow! Most of my friends and I can mostly just use different forms of the Dying Will.

[As well as their enemies but it's nothing to that extent. At least that he's seen.]

But yeah! I'm glad for it. With everything else going on...it's nice to have something.

That's still cool, I mean guess you guys can really help each other out in controlling your powers and getting used to them.

[Really feel less alone and crap. Scott doesn't feel that way, now that he's friends with Jean and the others, but knowing other kids that can use optic blasts or something would be... sort of neat. Guess there's his brother, but they're still different. He can control his powers, for one, and they don't come out of his eyes.

Anyway! Scott places one hand against his hip and smirks at Tsuna.]

So, as a totally regular teen, what kind of stuff do you enjoy doing?

Sort of, yeah. But we've all got different types of Dying Will Flames, so it's more about how we can support each other and work together with them.

[But more or less the same thing. Granted, the cohesion of the group waxes and wanes depending on how some people (Hibari) are feeling.]

Oh, uh, well, other than hanging out with my friends, I guess I like playing video games!

[Different kind of flames...? Guess that's possible. Maybe it's sort of like him and his brother, they both shoot beams out of their bodies, except his are from his eyes and Alex can do so with his hands and chest.]

Well, you're talking to the arcade master. [A cocky grin forms as he points a thumb at himself. He's definitely not a master of anything, but Scott decides to play it up anyway.] What's your favorite type of game? I enjoy Space Invaders more than Pacman, and Missile Command is pretty great too.

[No one show Scott recent video games.... he probably couldn't handle it.]

[Oh, so retro games. That's pretty cool. (He comes from the mid-2000s).]

I'm pretty good at fighting games, and racing games I guess. Lambo likes it when I play with him.

[Huh, fighting games. That surprises him a little, but that's still cool.]

Yeah, they're pretty fun too. I just wish they released more variety for fighting games, sort of boring that a lot of them just center around boxing.

Just boxing? Most of the games that I play have like, a whole bunch of martial arts.

[He likes games with multiplayer and he has to be better than Lambo at something.]

No way, seriously? What games are you even talking about? I haven't seen them.

[Maybe they're like Japanese only games? That's probable, right? Oh wait a second...]

Wait wait, what year are you from back home?

Hie? I was thinking stuff like Street Fighter and Smash Brothers.

[Or whatever the KHR equivalents might be. As for his answer, we're going early 2010s since there isn't an exact year.]

It's 20XX. Why?

[Those names draw a complete blank look from Scott, one that's obvious even behind his shades. Street Fighter and Smash Brothers? They definitely don't sound like boxing games for sure.]

Man, really, you're that far in the future?

[Does that mean he's technically older than Tsuna, by like, a lot?? Being born in 1967, he's going to be in his fucking 40s by 2010. Scott almost shivers at that thought. He wants to be an adult, but not that old!] It's only 1983 where I'm from. Well, good to know arcades and games get more advanced and everything. One thing to look forward to.
