[open/mingle] everyone needs a hobby
Who: anyone in Aldrip who wants a hobby
Where: Kotone's club building!
What: It's finally time... forschool clubs to be available.
Warnings: None as of yet, but please let me know if I need to edit this!
There's been a building under construction at the edge of town for a few months now; it looks as though at one point it had been a small warehouse for dry goods and storage that hadn't seen use in quite some time before being acquired by Kotone. When time allowed, she's been working on retrofitting it into what could almost (almost) be mistaken for a school practice building on the inside. Now, a sign has been posted on the open door, quite descriptively labeling it as Club Building Now Open!! Come in!!
Interested in starting a sports team, or just want somewhere indoors and relatively open? There's a volleyball net, balls, and various other kinds of sports equipment that Kotone was able to find/buy/acquire around town for the months she's been preparing. There are also some (wooden practice) weapons available for training and sparring, and a few lockers and showers nearby. They're available for anyone to use at any time, though if anyone breaks a window with her things, she'll be so disappointed and expect help fixing it. :(
While not true classrooms in that there's no school and not very many desks, there are several empty rooms available to be repurposed into an activity room. In one room, one can find a very small assortment of musical instruments; in another, a few easels and art supplies. Another room that's far better outfitted is a room with a cute handwritten sign reading Sewing Club! π on its door. Inside, as one might expect, there are two dressforms and several bolts of cloth alongside some Aldrip-style (read: vintage) sewing machines, as well as plenty of needles and thread.
One of the places that had taken her the longest to set up was the galley-style kitchen and tables. While it may not be the most modern or ornate kitchen in the world, it features the kind of appliances the Chosen would expect to find in Aldrip. It's very much a bring-your-own-ingredients situation, aside from basic spices and bulk staples that are available for anyone -- Kotone doesn't exactly have the same kind of funding a real school's Cooking Club would have, after all! -- but perhaps more importantly, it has a decent selection of pans, trays, and other cooking and baking supplies in the cabinets and cupboards.
Shinjiro has posted a simple sign that says "Cooking Club" on the door. Another sign says "Wash your hands."
What would a protagonist's building be without a flat roof to climb up to and stare wistfully into the distance? It's a roof. There's a few benches, or you can just stand on it. Be careful!!
This is also where Scott's Teens With Abilities and Talents club meets. Come say hello!
[This is an open mingle! Use it for all your club-creating/club-joining purposes. Feel free to assume that as long as no one is intentionally and obviously going to cause harm with their club, Kotone will approve it and make sure they have a room and (basic) supplies! The pictures are just a guide; adapt a classroom however you see fit! For organizational purposes, there's an open OOC post for club sign-ups here!]

There's even food? Wow... [ A complete baby to clubs, Shinichi is genuinely impressed, okay. Snacks definitely has to add to the Club Experience. (He's also perpetually really hungry, what with Migi feeding off his nutrients. But that's gross, he won'tβ he won't mention that.) ]
If you need help setting up anything for next time, I don't mind pitching in. [ He offers quickly. Scott clearly did all this by himself this time, so if he needs any assistance...! ]
Ohβ right. I uh. We talked about it, and he said it was okay if I join, and he also said he'd keep a low profile so he doesn't scare anybody.... [ The boy hesitates, visibly uncomfortable even if Migi is the whole point of him getting here early. It's just... so nerve-racking.... ]
But he also said he was fine meeting you at least, so... you're really sure you're okay with this? He's kind of... horrifying...
no subject
Cool, yeah, that'll help. Maybe we'll get pizza up here next time and I'll need help with that.
[Because what teen doesn't like pizza!! But okay, the reason why they're here early in the first place. Scott seems a little excited and partly anxious, because all of this suspense. It's like watching a movie, except he's in the movie and maybe about to get eaten-- nah.]
Aliens are cool, man. [Even the creepy ones in that one Alien movie--] I'm sure. Do you want me to like hold a hand up and swear? [Before Shinichi can answer, the mutant does so anyway, with an overconfident grin taking hold.]
cw: body horror but kind of cute(??)
But he just doesn't know how. Doesn't know what the fuck he's doing. This'll be the first time he's ever actually willingly "introduced" Migi to somebody else, and it's... so weird and his stomach's a mess of knots that progressively get tighter and tighter. He swallows hard, about to say something as Scott holds up his hand to swear on it, when.... his right hand suddenly lifts in the air with enthusiasm to mirror the gesture, palm out.
It seems like Migi's taken that gesture as an invitation... From the center of Shinichi's palm, a single round golden eye appears, blinking itself open to fix on the other boy. A mouth soon follows suit, which opens up as it begins talking... The voice is soft, even, and devoid of emotion, like a little robot. ]
Greetings. I have been waiting to meet you.
[ Shinichi's wide-eyed, staring down at his hand with horror. He knew Migi would be talking, but... just jumping up like that....... ]
no subject
Oh my god-- holy shit!
[Scott shouts, taking a large step back because okay, he thought he was ready, but maybe nothing in the world could probably prepare him for an eyeball and mouth suddenly appearing in the middle of Shinichi's palm. He really didn't have anything specific in mind that he was expecting, but just the suddenness of the alien parasite finally revealing itself is just. A Lot.
Deep breath, okay. He's fine, he thinks so at least. He wanted this, and it's not like he's going to kick out Shinichi for how weird his hand is. He said he won't and he's sticking to that.
As his heartbeat returns to something more natural, the mutant finally walks forward, his face tilted to the... talking hand. Yeah, this is his life now.]
Whoa... you can talk. [Maybe the other teen mentioned that at some point, but Scott doesn't remember.]

The apologies come in a rush, Shinichi's wince just deepening. ]
Sorryβ! I'm so sorry!!
[ Fortunately, the alien remains as he is for the moment, which is just a hand with some... features that a hand absolutely should not have. It lifts up a bit more β demanding some pull on Shinichi's arm and causing the boy to stumble a little β and then tilts to the side as the eye studies Scott, almost like someone tilting their head at something interesting. He remains calm in the face of Shinichi's rising panic; it's fine, Shinichi's always panicked about something or other. ]
I can. And do many other things.
[ The alien shifts his fingers a little, rubbing them together almost thoughtfully. ]
I did not mean to startle you. Are you all right?
[ Shinichi just kind of gapes down at the freaky thing, bewildered. Of course just popping out at somebody would startle them, Migi!!! But at least he's trying to be polite, it seems...... ]
no subject
Scott tilts his head further as he watches the alien make... human gestures?? Like it's obviously rubbing its fingers and everything. Huh... that's uh, something?? He doesn't really have the right words to describe how he's feeling.]
Uhhh, yeah? [He thinks so at least??? He doesn't think he's going to faint or anything like that!] I'm cool, um, we're cool.
[...........]
I'm Scott Summers. [He offers after a moment, almost lamely. He's not sure if he should try to... shake... its hand, so he just sort of stands there awkwardly.]
no subject
[ The ever knowledge-hungry alien asks, curiously. Human terms and their double meanings can get confusing, but he thinks he understands this one, adding on: ]
You said before that aliens were "cool", so I figured you would be all right with me revealing myself. It is good to know that we are cool.
.... [ Shinichi's fallen silent, just gaping from his chatty palm to Scott and back again as they speak. Well. This could be going so much worse, the other teen could be screaming and running away or, you know, shooting laser beams at him, so! But it's still super creepy to witness Migi just talking to someone else like this..... ]
I will commit your name to memory, Scott Summers. I can simply be referred to as "Migi". It means "right" in my host body's native language. [ Because he's a "right" hand... He gives his fingers another little waggle for emphasis. ]
no subject
Still kind of worrying, because as cool as this is, he doesn't want Shinichi to be... consumed by a parasite. At least the alien seems pretty chill right now?? So that's sort of uplifting.]
I mean, yeah. There's a whole bunch of movies about aliens from where I'm from and they're far more interesting than the fantasy crap. [Sure, dragons and old medieval times can be fun, but aliens and space, man. That's where it's at!!]
But Migi, huh? Okay, nice to meet you. Since you're part of Shinichi, you're welcome to the club, just don't start overtaking my friend, got it?
no subject
Movies? I have viewed a few educational films, and documentaries. However, I was not aware there were media depictions of aliens.
[ In truth, he isn't certain "alien" is even really the correct term to describe his kind, but until he learns more, it seems adequate. ]
Do not worry. At this point, I do not think a full takeover of my host is possible. [ Is that..... reassuring....? Not exactly....? It's probably fine!
Meanwhile, the human of the strange pair is still looking nervous as ever (although hearing Scott refer to him as "friend" is a brief moment of pleasant surprise that takes Shinichi aback a bit.) ]
U-um, I was... I was telling Migi that since you came up with the club, and you're the leader, we have to follow your rules, and... and he agreed to that, so...! He shouldn't cause any problems.....
....like getting aggressive at any of the others. Right...?
[ Migi considers this thoughtfully, eye moving between the two teenagers. ]
As long as no one threatens my own safety, there is no reason for me to threaten theirs. It is not wise to become hostile senselessly. Besides, I am looking forward to this as a learning opportunity.

Oh, totally, man. Movies about space and aliens is the cool thing now and way more exciting than those documentaries you watched. [If he could show off the movie 'Alien' to Migi, he would-- although, maybe not. DON'T WANT TO GIVE THE PARASITE ANY IDEAS... even if he 'can't' take over Shinichi anymore. Better to be a little more cautious when it comes to this, even Scott knows that.
But yeah, he's club leader and everything. Guess if there's any time to own that position, it's now. Scott straightens himself up and places his hands on his hips, thinking of what leader type people try to say in situations like this. Try to be... someone that people would want listen to, right?]
Okay, rule number one, no overtaking people's bodies. [Even if he can't, might as well put that out there.] And rule number 2, no fighting between anyone. If someone's threatening another teen, I'll step in and settle it. And this applies to everyone, so no one should be giving you a hard time.
[He shrugs lightly.] Not that I think anyone will. We got a good group here.

Alternatively, Migi is having a great time! Must be nice to be an inhuman being who isn't capable of feeling anxiety.... He's just happily chatting away with Scott. ]
I see. I am more interested in truth than fiction; however, there are certainly truths to be gained from fictitious depictions. As it may be difficult to procure media in this place, perhaps sometime you can tell me about these stories.
[ S-sure, Scott probably wants to spend his free time regaling alien movies to a talking hand...... ]
I understand that there may be some here who are disturbed by my presence. Shinichi says I am frightening, so I will reveal myself carefully to the others.
[ That does make Shinichi relax just a smidgen; at least Migi is being sensible about all of this. But of course, the alien always has an overarching reason for everything, and there's a curious glint in his golden eye as he leans a little closer towards Scott, right arm pulling Shinichi enough to make the boy have to take a slight step forward. ]
The device you are wearing is unlike anything I have ever seen. Was it made by humans?
no subject
[As long as Migi continues to be chill, Scott doesn't mind. Maybe it can be some incentive of some kind? Although, it doesn't look like the alien needs an extra boost or anything, he's like way more reasonable than even a lot of regular ol' humans. Better than the Xenomorphs too--
Also sorry Shinichi, Scott's definitely just talking to your hand and forgetting a little to bring him into the conversation.]
I mean, you can introduce yourself to the others one by one, or I can do like a larger introduction for you. Sort of stand next to you and be all 'This is Shinichi and his parasite alien, Migi. Don't worry, he's actually cool and won't kill us or take over our brains.'
[MAYBE WORD IT IN A BETTER WAY... but the general sentiment. Also hello, alien is suddenly a bit closer to him. That's fine. Scott stands still and reaches up to touch the glasses that's somewhat secured to his head. For the most part, they won't fly off his head, but a good punch can probably knock them off. IT'S only a little worrying.]
They're still glasses, man, just with ruby quartz in them. They block my optic blasts from killing everyone-- but yeah, it was made by a human. [Mutant-- but they're humans too. Right?] Professor McCoy is pretty much a genius. I'd be walking around blind without him.

[ He wants to know all about the Star Wars!!!! And it's totally fine, Shinichi is at a loss for words anyway.... as he just stands there watching his hand make plans to talk about Star Wars with someone. Is his life real??? Is any of this real??? All he can do is accept it.... ]
It may be best for individual introductions. That way I can observe each teenager and learn what they are capable of before revealing myself. ...And decide which form I will take for it.
[ Migi is... quite the shape-shifter. Some people may just get a pair of lips talking to them, others might get the eye, and others might get....... worse things..... There's a hint of how his ookey little self can manipulate Shinichi's body now; as he's reaching closer to Scott, Shinichi's index finger begins to stretch out a little, and the eye in his palm disappears, before reappearing at the tip of that finger, like an eyestalk..... This lets him move around like a little periscope, so he can see better and interact with things.... blinking curiously up at Scott, so hungry to learn more. ]
Ruby quartz blocks them? How fascinating..... Were you born with this capability, or did it develop later in life? Do your parents also share it, or are you a genetic anomaly?
[ Shinichi eyes his hand warily as it creeps closer to Scott's face, and gently reaches up to place his left fingers at his right wrist again. This is one thing about Migi getting to talk to people... he doesn't understand human social boundaries.... Migi you can't just ask someone if they're a genetic anomaly!!! ]
Umβ! Maybe we shouldn't ask too many questions, Migi. If he wants to talk about something, he will.... [ Gaze moving up to Scott, the boy wincesβ ] Sorry. He's just really... curious.... but you don't have to answer any of that.
no subject
[Scott's mostly interested in the whole lightsaber battles and X-Wings flying through space part. Guess there's... military theory involved somewhere?? Sounds kind of complicated. But anyway, who doesn't like Star Wars!!]
Sure, if that's what Shinichi wants too. Don't forget that you're using his body.
[Gotta throw some acknowledgement for his poor, quiet friend. Guess he's doing fine, because Scott isn't hearing any protests from him. So, things are working out and everything, nice. Although, he wonders what Migi means by deciding what form-- oh holy crap, his eye is right there now. GUESS THAT'S WHAT HE MEANS...
He leans back just slightly, but rocks forward on his feet so that Migi can take a closer look at him and everything... and ask him a bunch of questions. Genetic anomaly?? Wow. That's kind of cool. Basically mutant. He's never minded that description himself, really. It's just how it's always been.
Scott's shielded gaze turn towards Shinichi for a moment, almost like he's staring at the other teen, before he shrugs almost casually.]
It's cool, I don't mind. [Looking back at Migi now.] I developed it later in life, actually three months ago, my parents don't have it, but my older brother does. Back home we're known as mutants.
