Who: The Sentenced & Their Enforcers Where: Aldrip Training Grounds What: Group sentencing activity that requires cooperation! It's time for some restoration work after a tragic fire to this location that remains a pillar of community togetherness.
I'm afraid that we are trapped in a faulty system that may be well-meaning. Jerry is merely a construct of that system, just as susceptible to any bugs as the rest of it. There's been speculation that our original captors abandoned this project long before we arrived. Jerry may not be equipped to deal with these changes.
[Programming has limits, after all.]
You mean why those who fought the fire are expected to babysit those who were sentenced?
[Using Hiei's words here. Kurama doesn't actually consider it babysitting.]
This world has operated on stress endurance and torture since my arrival. This is actually far more in line with their stated premise of attempted rehabilitation, it seems a welcome break from their usual attempts to rile us into action. If those were merely glitches in the system, we may be seeing more of this behavior going forward.
That's not quite how things work. The task one is given may have nothing to do with the crimes committed, but improving things overall, for everyone. For example, I was tasked with assisting Yusuke despite his assignment having nothing to do with my own actions.
As for why we're here, it is also a common practice for good deeds to be rewarded with... more responsibility and certain freedoms or perks.
He's some kind of yakuza. I don't know what his deal is, exactly, but he and Vi had some sort of argument about the bar. Some kind of land shark, I think.
[... okay, so she's wrong on almost every level, but like, the gist is there.]
[okay, well, being yakuza or a land shark doesn't make him the most evil Chosen in existence. Demon morals and all that, but if Silco doesn't get along with Vi that does get his attention, because he likes Vi.]
Argument about the bar? I'm assuming you mean to say you don't know the specifics of the argument.

This isn't rehabilitation, this is public shaming. Because the people here aren't the ones who did the fire.

[The disdain in her voice is so real.]
I'm not interested in kissing up to get perks.

Then I suppose it's a good thing they are trained to only use them as a last resort.
As for the perks, I simply meant the added responsibility of being here to supervise does make sense, if the system is working as I believe it should.
[Should it work the way he thinks? Maybe not, it's as good a theory as any though.]

... I still don't trust it. And I don't like having some of these people here.

Which people..?

[SHE'S GLARING AT SILCO.]
... That guy needs way more community service than this.

[Maybe the skinny girl did something horrendous, he doesn't know. The mention of Silco has him following her gaze in that direction.]
What, exactly, has he done that makes him any worse than the rest of us?
[you know, besides smoking in the arson damaged woods.]
