Who: The Sentenced & Their Enforcers Where: Aldrip Training Grounds What: Group sentencing activity that requires cooperation! It's time for some restoration work after a tragic fire to this location that remains a pillar of community togetherness.
“I will not.” Beyond the fact that he cannot - which is something he won’t be finding out because he simply will not help - there is very little will left for things like “helping” if this is what he gets in return.
He could lift the entire pallet without much effort or thought, considering his demonic strength on top of the constant training, but he is, quite simply, an asshole.
To him she is perfectly clear, even if she’s barely loud, ears keen and made more attuned by the jagan as they are.
“Doing you humans favors only brings me more chores to do. If this is some attempt at sympathy save your energy. I do not have it.”
Red eyes only then slide to A2, huffing out a sound that is almost a laugh.
“You cannot and will not.” Unfortunately this is not a napoleon complex, just what he assumes are the rules. Hiei does not particularly care about victory or failure over just getting it done and over with. Though the more annoyed he gets about this in general, the worse he will elect to behave.
“Your coddling keeps her weak. What is your benefit from it?”
When Aloy had been mean, Beta had snapped back without hesitation, entirely impulsive. For all their fights, it had come from a level of security. Even knowing so little of Aloy, she knew she wasn't going to be at risk from her if they argued. With an unknown like Hiei, she ducks her head, the apology almost out of her mouth before A2 steps in. It feels nice having someone stick up for her, but at the same time-- Beta's eyes flick between the two with concern. "A2, you don't need to." She says quietly.
Being called weak makes her visibly flinch, and she curls in on herself a little bit. "It's - It's fine, I'll just find something easier."
Being asked to do something by a human, even one she considers a friend, should be cause to obey without question. But A2 does not obey. Instead, her jaw tightens. Her hand clenches into a fist at her side, and she takes a step forward. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees Beta flinch, and it makes her even angrier.
"I don't have to benefit from something to do it. And anyway," her chin tilts up in insolent challenge, "I wasn't asking your permission. So why don't you just stay up there and mind your own goddamn business?"
Not that Hiei would let literally anyone know, but the fire demon wouldn’t dream of being an actual threat at the moment. At least not to Beta.
His eyes roll at the defiant tip of A2’s chin, reminded of how many demons he’s done away with for the same amount of insolence. But at home he was Mukuro’s second in need of defending his position, here it would be stepping on ants for barely any reason. He did not want to start with a precedent and not only hear about it from his entire household but also end up sentenced on top of it.
“Unfortunately this has been made my business. If you expect pity speak to Scott or Kuwabara. So far as I am concerned, do what you are most efficient at so that we may all be done with this pathetic little chore list as quickly as possible.”
He huffs a sigh as if this is all so greatly inconvenient to him because … it is actually.
“I have no interest in being punished for stomping on inconsequential ants.”
Worms, ants. It's always the same. She was always just something tiny and worthless under someone's foot.
"It's not the worst thing I've been called. Let's just go." She doesn't know many insults, and certainly not many she'd be willing to throw around for risk of provoking anyone, but she almost calls him a douchebag. Almost. She'll get to use it one day.
It's amazing that A2 isn't intimidated by Hiei, especially when she can barely get herself to look at him.
