[ Hm. She's fought bigger, meaner looking devils than A2, but something tells her this isn't a fight she wants to pick. At least not yet. ]
What the hell is your problem? [ She holds her ground, but she's looking for an out... and there's a very obvious one. Bonus: she can even make herself look good in the process. ] Fine. I'll show you what a good person looks like, since you need the reference.
[ She walks confidently up to the struggling fisherman, ignoring her disgust at the thrashing animal, then yanks on the net. Yanks again. And... ends up falling into the water with a loud scream. Die... ]
[What a self-important brat, A2 thinks, and watches in silence as the girl proceeds to attempt to help and absolutely eats shit. Only then does she walk over, taking her time, and with casual ease, yanks the net, fish and all, out of the water. She hands it to the delighted and surprised snake-fishermen, raises her hands in polite refusal when they offer her part of their haul in thanks, and walks to the edge of the dock to crouch and observe the girl thrashing in the water. Both Pod and Koromaru hover nearby, each curious at the girl's fate.]
Wow. [She says at last, flatly.] You're right. I learned so much. You're so smart and cool.
[ This is so mortifying... why do bad things only ever happen to her and nobody else? Even in an entirely new place, she's cursed. She at least learned how to swim at school, so she's not in any danger of drowning, but she wishes she could sink to the bottom of the ocean. Whatever... guess she'll live instead... ]
Go to hell! [ She starts the humiliating paddle back to the shore, because she's not going to suffer the shame of asking A2 to pull her up onto the dock. The only reason she didn't start swimming sooner is because she wanted to watch A2 fail the same way she did, but she couldn't even have that. ] You only helped those fishermen because you wanted to make me look bad. Well, I'm the one who tired it out! I should get the credit!
You first. [The retort is dry, almost bored. She watches, blankfaced and making no attempt to help as Asa sadly paddles back to land.] And I don't care about making you look bad, dumbass.
[Said with a raised eyebrow. At last, she stands up again.] Do you always walk around with your head this far up your ass?
[It's asked like a genuine question. A2, who considers herself unpleasant as a general rule, usually doesn't have the space to complain about someone else's attitude. She's almost baffled.]
[ Asa takes a few steps onto the shore, bending over to catch her breath. It wasn't far to swim, but it was both unexpected and she was fully clothed — right. Which means she's now soaked without an outfit change. Cool. Great. First she nearly dies, then she gets saved by Chainsaw Man of all people, and now... now...
She sits down and just... glumly stares back out at the water. ]
What am I even doing...? I seriously can't go five minutes without screwing something up.
[Pitilessly, she studies this new arrival with a thinly disguised annoyance and disdain, one that only grows the longer she speaks. What A2 hated, other than the machines, apparently (which she could not say for certain she hated any longer), was self-pity. She had spent so long carrying her own self-loathing like a burden on her back, in resigned and noble silence. Had stopped seeking understanding when it became clear that she wouldn't receive it. It hadn't gone away, but she had been able to look outside of it over time. Had become less myopic. This person's behavior, by contrast, is foreign and unwanted both.]
That wouldn't have happened at all if you weren't so arrogant. [A2 points out, without sympathy.]
