[Akutagawa might be stubborn, but there's no way he would be that much of an idiot, right? He must have something else up his sleeve - one that Dazai is looking forward to find out.]
[In fact, right after Dazai says that, Akutagawa uses Rashomon to pick up a few minor things around the room. Be thankful there isn’t a hoard of pens here (Elfen Lied anyone?). Just a few wood scraps, a metal pole on wheels, and maybe… a chair just floating as Rashomon’s tendrils keeps them at hold.
In conclusion, Dazai is about to be rained full of possible threatening junk.
[Well! That's certainly new. A unique way of using his ability that Dazai would have praised if this was a training session, especially when an unlucky dodge has the chair smack on him a little.
But while Akutagawa has landed a good hit, it would take more than that to get someone like Dazai down.]
An excellent strategy when dealing with enemies from a distance, but what happens if they get closer?
[- And just like that, Dazai charges through, about to land a solid punch to Akutagawa's gut.]
[For a brief moment, there was a small smirk when the target was hit. Yet, that success wasn’t enough to obtain victory.
As he thought, abilities are ineffective so he had to think out of the box, throw any mundane objects. Still, it wasn’t enough to bring this man down. It brought forth more ideas, but it was cut short the moment Dazai spoke and the detective’s eyes widen.
Close combat, the worst scenario for him. He had something to counter close range by disorienting the space around him with Rashomon. Even in a reflex, a dark beast merges from the man’s coat, Rashomon, letting out a roar and rippling the air. The boy’s body fling backward, instinctively trying to create space between them. Even with Rashomon, the man’s fist shattered the beast’s barrier to deliver the blow right into the boy’s gut. Akutagawa choked as the air is shot out of him, falling forward.
Old memory surfaced. It’s the same as they first met, the Man in Black, four years ago. Then again with his teacher. He didn’t build endurance as his mafioso self. Still, hurts.
He’s on the floor, curling his stomach.]
Urg.. The other one punched harder.
[Was that suppose to be an insult, or compliment?]
[Of course it's a lighter punch. He's not longer the ruthless Demon Prodigy anymore. Still, the facsimile of a facade is necessary, and he adds another kick to Akutagawa's face for his insolence.]
And yet I'm not the one on the ground, am I?
[Oh, it's so sickeningly easy, to slip back into this. For his timbre to drop in temperature, eyes much like the void staring back at the beast below him. He needed this facade for Atsushi - and now he needs it for Akutagawa, as well? How annoying.
He's annoyed at himself, most of all.]
If this is the best you can muster, then you don't stand a chance of what's out there, either.
[While he has met the mafioso version, never had he seen the Man in Black fell.. dark. It doesn’t quite registered yet, it’s been years since he met that man only to see him again refreshed and well, fell. The pain spread like fire, something he’s used to, endured most of his life.
The kick lands swiftly on his face, jerking his head in the process. A loud grunt escapes, even though he tried his best to hold the pain in. Even with all that talk, all Dazai will get is a dark chuckle from the young boy. The chuckle erupts to a laugh for a good moment. It’s almost as if he had something in mind. Spoiler, he did.
While Akutagawa held no grudge against this Dazai, he began to feel pretty damn good what’s to come. If there is anything he remembered from the Man in Black, he had to be stronger for what’s to come. This Dazai simply reminded him of that.
Onyx eyes lifts up, staring back at this man in retaliation. The ember within him remain lit, blazing perhaps.]
…haa. Don’t worry, I’ll watch my step.
[That said, a sound pierced through the air of cut wood. It was quick, but Rashomon cut a circular around the man in an instant.]
Should have watched yours.
[If he can’t defeat his foe now, maybe later. Oda-sensei be proud.]
[- And just like that, the hole comes crashing down to the floor below them. It's fortunate that the room below is unoccupied, else Akutagawa would have some more explaining to do.
As for Dazai - well, as luck would have had it, he manages to step away just in time. Perhaps he expected it, or perhaps his reaction time has been faster than what one would have expected. Still, the man before Akutagawa is brimming with smugness.]
That's a smart ploy on your part, I'll give you that!
[It looked promising as Akutagawa’s ability destroys the structure under the man’s feet. It was a smart tactic, dig his ability under him, just a slither of the cloth and make a circular cut under him. Would had played through, but alas, this cunning man caught it.
He would double check if no one’s under them, but the situation now hasn’t been solved yet. Disappointing, he sighs, as if resigning here. He really would like to rip that smug off that man’s face.]
It was that or bring the building down, only my true enemies would have the honor in that.
[That’s fine, cause he’s still grinning. There were ideas he could had utilized but… it’s the hospital so he had to at least refrain himself from this. It’s not the coffee shop.
Annoying. Even Rupturing Space had no effect. This man is shatters abilities. He makes the effort to sit upright at least, legs crossing as he catches his breath. He couldn’t shake the feeling last moment ago, when that man’s expression shifted, dark. A strange one.]
[It’s so refreshing, actually, to see Akutagawa like this — less frustrated from his defeat, more willing to listen to him. If only training his Akutagawa were as easy as this. At any rate, he gets what he has hoped for, so he’ll at least acquiesce to Akutagawa’s request.
It’s like nothing much has happened really, Dazai as cheerful and as unreadable as ever, coming over to slide his weight over his own shoulder.]
Please don’t bring the building down, thank you very much! The others also need it to recuperate.
[It’s probably thanks to a certain someone back home, his own teacher. He was patient, and had his own way of explaining. Most importantly, Akutagawa respects him during exercises.
That’s how he views this, another exercise, with some more violence. He’s more curious how ‘this’ Dazai operates, an enigma, but that’s good, in a way. As Dazai hoist the boy up, Akutagawa helps, in a way, pushing himself up and holding the other. As he thought, he can’t summon his beastie coat long as they’re in contact. Sometimes, he wished Yosana was here for healing reasons, then remembered the important condition needed to get recovery. He shuddered the thought, and the once grin plastered on his face returns to neutral.]
I trust you can evacuate them.
[Was that suppose to be a joke or a suggestion?
Anyway… eventually he made his way back to bed, still keeping his favorite coat on, one hand still wrapped around his abdomen. Yeah, he’s going to feel that all the way til morning, nothing new.]
I’ll fix the hole later.
[Noting this out loud. He rather not see Jerry anytime soon.]

Yet, once again, its as last time he remembered.
Rashomon dispelled. The man is untouched.
Akutagawa sighs calmly, clearing his mind.]
Deflected as before. A troublesome ability.
[Is this the calm before the storm?]
