[He really hoped that no news is good news when it comes to Quentin.
He smiles and gives a little salute.]
Sure thing, Fearless Leader. If it's an order, I'll be even more extra super careful!
[And his smile softens. He wasn't looking for revenge, knowing the nature of their enemy, but it's a relief on top of that to know that the opponent is back to normal.]
...That's good to know. Thanks. Little by little, this day's getting saved. [One person at a time.]
[Maybe, a while back, he'd jokingly make a comment about kicking Kurt's butt if he disobeyed and got himself hurt anyway, but he doesn't feel it now. Instead, he nods, taking this all too seriously in a way that probably feels just a little familiar. Just not from him.
He idly looks at the bag of chips that Kurt brought over, rustling it in his hands, but not yet opening it.]
...And I'll be fine too. [Reassuring Kurt? Himself? Maybe a little bit of both. He still feels kind of bad about snapping at him earlier, although he's feeling kind of withdrawn too, in a sense. It'd be better if he talked about this stuff, right? But he's not feeling it either, at least not that specific event.]
This kind of thing is common for X-Men, right? [Getting hurt.]
[Kurt isn't keen on pressing Scott about something he doesn't want to talk about. At the very least, he wants to make sure he's okay and that he knows Kurt's here for him.]
That's what I was hoping to hear. Whatever you need along the way, I'm here to help you.
[He nods and offers a soft smile.]
It's not the most common! But it happens. Thankfully we don't end up laid out like this after each mission. But our enemies do hit hard! [He says with a little laugh.]
[He doesn't join in Kurt's laughter, in fact, he really doesn't really react at all, his hands now still on the bag of chips.
The 'enemy', huh. Even though his enemy this time was his own girlfriend. It's not her fault though. He believes that with his entire being, even if it doesn't erase the pain and injured he feels. It hurts to hear Kotone being referred to that way at all, even though he knows Kurt doesn't mean it. Maybe that's the thing that gets his hands to finally curl around the bag, even if he doesn't open it.]
...It was just an accident. [...] And you said this happens. So it's okay.
[Like he'll recover, he'll be fine. Then he can reassure Kotone that everything is good between them.]
[His laugh dies down quickly at the response from Scott. And he just nods along quickly, as he realizes he might have used the wrong choice of words in trying to assure him.]
R-right. I didn't mean to blame the - whoever did that. I meant more - you know, generally.
[He pauses as he reflects.]
But this kind of thing does happen, too. Sometimes, our friends have trouble controlling their powers. Due to that, and sometimes because of misunderstandings on top of that, we end up having to defend ourselves against people we care about. [He remembers when Jean's powers went out of control, and when Rogue shapeshifted into various enemies of theirs after a breakdown...]
[He doesn't tell Kurt just yet who's responsible, leaving that open in the air to settle almost uncomfortably between them. Not that he thinks his friend would get upset at Kotone because Kurt's not that kind of person. It's just. Still hard to admit it to anyone, at least to anyone that wasn't there. Ryoji knows, but he was the one that ended up saving him in the end.
Still, he quietly listens to what Kurt's saying. ...He's right about that, how mutants lose control of their powers. It's happened to him before and it probably will again, through one reason or another. No one's ever blamed him for that and he'd never blame another mutant if they're going through the same thing. It sucks. And Scott can't help but apply the same thing to Kotone.]
...It's because of the wish seeds. She wasn't in control at all. We understand that sort of thing better than most.
[He now knows the gender of the person at least, but that doesn't narrow the person's identity down that much. Not that Kurt wants to figure it out anyway. If Scott wants to keep her identity private, he'll respect that. She's apparently back to normal now anyway, so the situation is resolved in Kurt's book.]
...Right. All too well. I'm not blaming anyone infected by those things. I'm sure they could even do the same for either of us! But really, what they all need is help. And that's what I'm going to try for with any of them that I come across.
[Despite everything, a gradual smile starts appearing on Scott, pushing behind his more glum feelings until he's fully smiling at Kurt. His best friend... he really can count on him, no questions about it. Kurt's one of the best people in the whole world, both here and at home. His Kurt may be more shy, but this is what really matters most, they both are just really good guys.]
Just promise to still to be careful. [...] If you end up in the bed next to me, I promise that you'll never hear the end of it.
[Be prepared for Summers Lecture for 3 hours straight. Or more. Definitely incentive right there.]
[It warms his heart to see Scott actually smiling! Maybe he accomplish one mission, of cheering his best friend up. His own smile grows back.]
Oh man, now I really have to be extra careful! Trust me, I'll do everything I can to avoid a full-blown Cyclops lecture. I double doggy promise it! As long as you keep resting until you're a hundred percent better.
[So inspiring. He'd have to ask for some pointers sometime... somehow. Although, from what he's heard about the Scotts in Quentin's and Morph's and Rogue's universes, they're also really good at giving long lectures. It almost sounds like he needs to step up! Maybe. He will definitely do it if Kurt ends up getting hurt because only one injured mutant should be here.
He weakly grips his hand back, his strength mostly recovered. Just overall? A work in progress.]
I'll stay put until I'm recovered. Then I'll be back out there.
Just try and avoid being the person I throw my first lecture at.
[...Not that he wants to really lecture any of his friends, but with how dangerous things are right now, he wouldn't be surprised if one of them ends up here with him. And if they're not going to try and rest, then he'll make them!! He fully gets how much it sucks just sitting here and recovering, but rushing back into the fray without being back in tip top shape is just a bad idea.
Geez, he wonders if he really is becoming more like the other Scotts. He's not sure what to think about that.]
I'll play backup for now. See if I can help around the clinic while keeping my eye on the network. Your ability to teleport will be really handy in getting people to safety.
[He says that with a soft laugh. Of course, in an emergency situation, he'll do what he feels needs to be done regardless of whether or not it will result in a lecture. But for now, it's easy to assure him that he'll take it easy.]
That sounds like a good idea, as long as you don't stress it too much. But yeah, my power's super handy at a time like this! If you catch wind of an area where my help is needed, just shoot me a text, man! [He flicks a finger-gun!]
[It honestly feels a little weird to play support like this, especially after finally becoming a X-Man. Officially. However, he knows the importance of something like this, even if it's sort of hard to swallow at first. He'll just make sure that he doesn't get taken off the battlefield so quickly next time. Yeah. More reasons to train and everything, get even better.
He'll at least finally open his bag of chips. A sign that he's finally accepting all this, to some degree.]
We got a plan going then. [He smiles slightly.] But I don't want to hold you up for long. I promise I'll be okay, there's more people out there that probably need your help. They still... need the X-Men.
[Ah, the sound of a bag of chips opening! It was already music to his ears, but it's extra pleasant in this instance because it means Scott is going to partake. He's going to rest, for now at least.
And his words get a full grin from Kurt.]
Spoken like a true Cyclops.
And I know you'll make a good on your word. So I'll get going now. But hey, if you need anything, don't be afraid to ask! [He flashes a thumbs up.] I'll see you, man. Keep feeling better!

[Even if this is the more 'laidback' Scott. He doesn't want to underestimate his potential!
As his hand is gripped, Kurt gives Scott's a gentle squeeze before pulling back.]
