What’s in a Wish?
[Good intentions can quickly turn bad under the wrong circumstances. Bad intentions framed as good would turn worse. The Black Beast with all its horrors and all of it tendrils of corruption in the city was an excellent distraction for others to find footing to be monsters. Silco, as it would turn out, had found a Wish seed, though hadn’t known what it was at the time as he had parted ways with his broken daughter.
What did one become when they already considered themselves a monster? Nothing more than what they were. His transformation was deceptively plain in that his physicality increased with two extra inches to his height, his shoulders and chest filling out with more musculature and he had a distinctive healthy look about him.
He stopped wearing make-up over the fetid and discovered skin around his left eye. The pupil which was normally a glowing glaring orange-red had turned to a blue like the colouration of a certain power source from his world.
He walked calmly, assured in his swagger as he headed to the City Hall. He cared nothing for the chaos of battle at the edge of town, intent on the drive to fulfill his own wish. While the population was occupied, Silco was moving to consolidate power and investigate how to take it for himself. His wish was control, and that’s exactly what he intended to do while the Black Beast raged as a suitable distraction.
Every Eye needed a Hound to play the rambunctious part of this dance.]
[Of course Ragna had made it all too obvious what the idiot brute was planning, and it was so ridiculously self-sacrificial that it was sickening. Silco was not the self-sacrificing sort when it came to monsters of such nature; he let the morons throw their lives away at this point.
However, this was Ragna. This was someone Silco partially owned, and that roused a certain activity in him that otherwise wouldn’t exist. Unfortunately, this became personal despite all signs of this situation pointing towards certain death if he were to venture out on his own. He’d risked it during the various creatures and packs roaming the streets some months ago, and he had nearly lost a leg for the endeavour. Still, stubbornness invigorated him to not let this happen; this world could burn if it meant losing certain aspects of what he considered his.
No, this would not stand.
Silco contacted his daughter who must be in full on distress at this point. His message was simple: We are going after Ragna. Meet me outside the Last Drop. He expected they would need to move quickly to prevent the stupid theatrics from occurring, and then he was willing to leave town while others dealt with this nonsense.
He was waiting outside the Last Drop normally, though he was currently dragging on a cigar while checking the ammunition on the firearm that he had Jinx made for him. He had been practicing of course, though he was be no means an excellent shot. He was competent. Otherwise, he continually checked his phone and looked around for Jinx to appear. He would not go without her; she couldn’t lose two people in the same day.]
[distress wouldn't be the word that would describe how she's feeling. if someone were to ask, there would be nothing she can come up with that could identify the ache burning in her chest. she's been hyperventilating what felt like hours now that she can't really recall what it was like to breathe normally. seeing the text from her father made her leave her post immediately, and without any reconsideration. yes, she promised ragna that she will watch his things, and she will continue to do so — but his items will be okay for the time being in his sanctuary.
it's times like these that she curses herself for being such a featherbrain, because she could use rhino right about now during this crisis. sure, bullets may do nothing against these monsters, but he would still pack more of a punch than her pistol. and as for the hex gemstone, well... — she brought it along just in case. it's been quiet and dull all morning, but it could awaken at any time and do some good. if worse comes to worst, she can jam it into one of her many explosives and let it evaporate whatever needs to be. jinx hope it won't come to that, it would mean losing the crystal for good, but... for her loved ones, she will do just about anything to secure their safety and to live on.
approaching the last drop, the bluenette spots her father just outside, heaving with her pistol and several chompers hook to each side of her. she isn't wearing her usual attire — but something else that she vaguely remembers putting together back in runeterra, before being transported back to aldrip. when silco meets with her daughter face to face, her eyes are puffy with her mascara running down each cheek. she's been balling her eyes out, as expected, and although she is now standing by him, she is still wheezing in panic while trying to stitch sentences together.]
Silco. Ragna, I... I-I-I don't...know whe-where he... he...— would. I've tried to... I can't. I can't go through...this. Not again, not again, I-I-...!!
[Silco looked up and spotted his daughter's approach, noting the expected panic and grief on her expression. He set his firearm into the holster he almost never wore so that he could free up his hands as she closed the distance between them.
He lifted his hands to cupped her face in them, thumbs caressing the smears of mascara and pulling her in so that he could press his lips briefly against her forehead. He was assured that she was here now, and they would endeavor on what they must together, whatever scenario that they might be walking in together. It would be dangerous, but it would be worth it if they could stop Ragna from himself.]
It's okay. He'll be near that beast, so that's where we will go, alright? You and I together, we will do whatever is necessary to find him and try to stop him on this fool's errand of his.
[He briefly pulled her against him and then moved to start walking. They didn't have time to waste and putting them both on the path of purpose was exactly what they both needed right now.]
Walk with me and tell me what the brute told you.

[she wanted to break down and shrink when he bowls her face, and he can certainly see her being on the verge of doing so again. but jinx is swallowing down her tears, and she attempts to breathe easy when his lips plant on her forehead. his love is giving her some strength, and she sniffles as they pace close together. she can't be like this if they're going to face danger — she needs to pull herself together and activate that jinx side within her.
so as they hike, his daughter puff out a quivering exhale, and uses her hands to quickly wipe away the invisible tears. focus, focus, focus. she unhooks the pistol from her hip and twists the knob to prepare it for firing when needed.]
Just... that he knows how to stop it. Or at least hold it off. He can buy us time? A week, he said.
[she bites her bottom lip, a little uncertain if she should tell silco this next additional information but... cat is a little out of the bag now.]
A year ago during that maze, I saw this dragon explode out of him and it destroyed everything. And when we met, his parchment said "ending the entire world". That's what drew me to him in the first place. Back then, I thought... having a guy with that much power would be great to have in my corner. He could just blast anyone away if I tricked him into being my partner and if I played my cards right.
[gosh. their relationship changed so much since then. from jinx planning to use him as a stupid stooge to being one of the most important people in her life.]
So... I think that beast is him, or a part of him.
[They both needed to focus on the facts and their limitations for this situation. Ragna had tried to impress upon him how ineffective he and Jinx were going to be, and he had already accepted that consequence. They weren't there for the beast itself, just Ragna. He knew the ins and out of this city as well as, if not better than Jinx, so between the two of them they could slip away.
Buy them time, hmm? Well, that won't be necessary. There were plenty here with strange and fantastical abilities that could fight it. Besides, a week would hardly make much difference and they could lose the city regardless.]
We need a strategy, not a self-sacrifice. There is always another way, but he's too stupid to accept that possibility.
[He listened to Jinx's story of her first encounters with Ragna and it made sense to him. She had been relatively alone, and this was before he arrived to offer the support that she needed. It was smart to ally oneself with the biggest and meanest in the yard, as he had once done many, many years ago.]
He is also responsible for destroying the initial city hall, and we all knew his power was well beyond what most of us were capable. That he's accidentally released that beast upon the city no doubt makes him feel responsible. How stupid.
[He was picking up his pace, not quite running but hurrying in a manner that was very un-Silco unless Jinx was actively involved. He was hyperfocused on what they were doing.]
Did you bring the gemstone? We may have to employ it regardless of how temperamental it is.
[that is definitely something she can agree with. they all need a better strategy than doing... whatever the hell this is. and this is why having a one profound leader of aldrip is extremely important at a time like this. an individual who will make the right call on what everyone should do and what areas to evacuate towards.
she can devise a few ideas what the chosen should be doing, but she has no power to direct them to do anything. the chosen aren't as pursuing as her zaunites, sadly so. at the mention of the gemstone, his daughter digs around in her pockets and display it for his viewing.]
Yeah, but... this thing's been out of order since I woke up.
[she'll even hand it over to silco for further inspection, and upon looking at it, the magic within doesn't seem to be swirling like it normally does. its appearance seem dull and out of life. again, will this wake up in time for it to be useful? who truly knows.]
[ There's been a burning in her scar for a few hours now. It's not unusual, is the thing, and maybe that's why she doesn't give it much thought at first. Even after it had closed up it still hurt sometimes. In the scheme of things, her arm hurting is the least of her worries, and it doesn't stop her from trying to make herself useful.
Ellie likes to think she's pretty good at what she does at the Shimmer and Shine. For all of her teenage snark, she's willing and eager to work hard and pick up slack, gets along with the other employees, and she's never intimidated by the drunk idiots she boots right out. It's her first stop as she helps set up for those seeking out shelter, making room for cots and handing out supplies. When the burning worsens and she starts feeling disoriented and sluggish, she ignores it. There's more important shit to do right now. She's tired, that's all. ]
Starting to think I need to stop giving this computer world or whatever compliments if this shit's gonna happen every time I do.
[ She gives a stack of chairs a kick to slide them into a corner, swaying a little before righting herself. ]
[Silco had been making preparation for safe spaces, but at this point, it also required people to protect these areas. The locals were locked up in their homes, and that meant that people from the zone where this beast happened to be causing damage would need somewhere to go. He was all for taking advantage of the needs of others, endearing himself to them so that he would eventually meet less resistance as his long-term plans came to fruition.
And there was one person he found he could oddly rely on and that was Ellie. She didn't complain more than usual, worked hard, showed up and and knew her way around various weapons. Despite her size, she held her own and she was one of his better and loyal hires, which meant that he thought nothing of her presence as he walked into the Shimmer and Shine with a few carrying foodstuffs and other supplies to put in the back storage.
He had seated himself down at the bar in such a way that he could watch her as she moved around. She looked oddly pale today, did she? Perhaps it was little more than his imagination. He began to write the inventory changes between the Last Drop and here.]
It is regrettable, but this place seeks stupid and threatening ways to test our resolve. Apparently if it isn't trying to punish us somehow, it isn't a merry place to exist in.
[His eyes followed her unusual sway.] You remembered to eat today, didn't you?
[ When she first arrived, the question would likely have gotten eyeroll and a scoff. Maybe a Why do you care? if she's feeling up to it. But Ellie meets respect with respect; any barbs from her had lost their sharpness long before.
She takes a moment to steady herself before letting out a breath, turning to face him fully. ]
Pretty sure I ate enough for like...3 horses.
[ She's fine, see? ]
Whatever, he won't fire u. He doesn't hate u enough for that
[Silco eyed her as she turned to face him. Something seemed off, but he wasn't a doting boss so expected that she could take care of herself in this establishment. He paid her to work, but more than that, she had not required coddling. He expected she would sit down if she needed to.]
How you eat so much is beyond me.
[Said by a man who ate as little as possible and persisted on whiskey and cigars. He waved off the comment with a hand.]
There are extra blankets in the crane room. Go and bring them out for the cots.
[He pushed some papers around to investigate inventory more in depth and scribbled some notes as he considered the implications of what might happen if this was prolonged or if the city was mostly destroyed.
He glanced up to regard the door where Ellie was in a different room.] They don't concern themselves with the stupid choices that some of us make. I wouldn't waste time being bothered by it. They are useful when they need to be.
[ Ange is on her way to fight the monster. But doing that still means first making her way through town to get to the edges of town where all those heads are - and it's on her way there that she notices Silco.
And there's.. something odd, isn't there?
The odd thing isn't really him walking around so confidently in a dangerous situation. Not necessarily. Silco usually seems pretty good at keeping a cool head, after all. Even under these circumstances. Maybe he has figured things are only truly dangerous at the edge of town.
But the more Ange looks, the more she realizes-- his eye. It's so weird. And though she knows she ought to be rushing to try and help with the biggest monster here, she can't help but pause that for a second, quickly making her way over to him instead. ]
[Ah, Ange. Somehow he can always count on her to find him when he's at his worst and his best. She had plenty of powers of her own, so he did expect her to be heading towards the fight to contribute to whatever was in her power to do so. Such a hero!
And yet she was taking the time out of being the savior to approach him. He slowed to a stop and turned to regard her, tilting his head as he examined her for a moment.]
A monster with multiple heads causing vast property destruction on the edge of town. Of course, the situation is complicated by the failed attempts of the fox girl.
[He tucked his hands into his coat pockets, making a point to looking towards where the the beast was currently raging.]
I assume you were on your way to assist? I'm not a fighter, so I will be continuing to set up safe spaces.
Because she's pretty sure all of this is pretty normal. The things he's saying, anyway. Of course Silco would make sure he was fully aware of the situation going on in town. Of course he would be looking for the most logical course of action - and he's never really seemed like the heroic type, out there putting his own skin on the line, so him not going to the battle also makes sense.
But no matter how normal he sounds, there's still something off-- which makes the very normal words stranger in return. ]
Yes, I am, but-- [ She pauses. Would it be weird to address the way he's looking different? Ange usually doesn't mind being rude, but she feels like she actually kind of gets along with Silco in a lowkey sort of way, and she doesn't want to ruin that.
Still, him looking so different in the middle of this situation does not seem like a good thing. Not something to be ignored. ]
[As far as he was concerned, the town was in imminent danger and she was one of the people who was capable of fighting. The mass gathering of the usual heroics didn't involve him; his position was best spent on support and seeing that people had places to go to hole up. That wasn't his purpose to be out and about now, but everything was settled.
He regarded her, noting that she was staring and it didn't bother him in the least. He felt freer than he had in much time, and he was determined not to waste this opportunity that felt fortuitous.
After all, Jinx was out of commission, and Ragna was dead. It was on him to capitalize.]
Well? Why are you wasting time on me? [He shrugged his shoulders at her other question, seemingly unaffected by it.] Do I? My appearance shouldn't matter at a time like this, should it?
[ It's a good thing that Silco starts angling what he's saying just a little bit differently with that last question. Because even though it's a high-stakes situation - or exactly because it is that - she does not want to get into a conversation where she has to reveal that maybe she does care at least a little bit about other people. Especially not that explicitly.
But this thread is much easier to chase down. It means Ange doesn't have to let down her mask when she's already feeling pretty frantic - by her standards - about what's going on here. ]
Of course it matters! [ The girl says. It seems that she's gotten off her goal entirely for a few more moments, because rather than walking on, she's walking closer towards him now. ] Do you think that's just a coincidence? There's clearly something weird going on in town, and it's likely doing something weird to you!
[Silco knew that she was concerned; somehow Ange always managed to turn up like clockwork when something strange happened to him. He was tracking it, and while it may not always be coincidence, it was rather odd how consistently it occurred. Perhaps at some point he should stop and consider it. That day would not be today.
He smoothed his hands down his front as if checking if her concerns about his appearance contained validity that he should actually care for. No, everything felt good, better than ever actually.]
There is always something weird going on in this town. If we fell to rancor every time a strange event occurred, we would accomplish nothing of value. [He pushed his fingers through his slicked back hair.] I feel fine. And whatever is happening is likely short-lived as long as the beast rampages in the city.
[there's a lot of people going towards the fighting.
Silco, however, is not.
of course, Vi spots him in the crowd. honestly, it's the blue eye that gives him away. she probably would've just let him wander and get his ass beat, but 1) he's changed like some of the people here, and 2) he's walking towards City Hall.
there's a long, drawn out sigh as she runs to step in front of him, her gauntlets raised as she glares at him.]
[He slipped from crowd of would-be heroes and stopped when his path was blocked by another person. Oh, the girl. Silco tilted his head and made a point of casually tucking his hands into his pockets as he watched her, noting the gauntlets. She was clearly in the wrong place, wasn't she?
For once, he didn't immediately launch into berated or insulting her. Perhaps that should have been a red flag for changes. He took her measure and remained with a confidence of someone that knew exactly what they were capable of and what they happened to be up against.]
City Hall. I'm no combatant, so it is best I stay out of the way. [He gestured with his head in the direction of the screaming and property damage.] I believe you are needed in that direction.
[oh yeah, that was a huge red flag. because since when does Silco not call her "girl" or just generally go straight for the emotional and mental jugular whenever he encounters her.
she shrugs, rolling her shoulders as she stares him down.]
And why would someone like you be going to City Hall? You know you're not going to get in.
[nobody does, even if it's been blown to smithereens multiple times--]
[He met her stare with his own mismatched ones, appraising her commitment to be bothersome when there was clearly an incident that required punching. Unfortunately, the night wasn't getting particularly younger and he was not in the mood for missed opportunity.]
I am aware it is locked and barred. Now be on your way.
[He turned and began to walk away from her as if the conversation had reached its natural conclusion.]
[aaand she's getting in his way again, both because she's being an asshole and because there's something fishy going on here.
why is he trying so hard to get to City Hall??]
And yet, you're going anyway. Why? Gonna shake your fist at the windows and tell them all how awful they all are in there? Believe me, they already know.
[Silco was forced to stop walking when she interceded in his progress, narrowing his right eye at her. Yet, he remained unusually calm as his gaze finally walked down her to note weapons and stance before rising to her face again.
So affronted. So suspicious. All he was doing was walking to a building he freely acknowledged was locked and barred.]
My business is my business, and I have no reason to divulge anything to the likes of you. Step aside, girl, so I can be on my way. There is nothing illegal happening here, or do you want another sentencing for being unable to control your temper, hmm?

She hangs onto the thought until she's got all but a few of the cots made up. Her bitten arm cramps but she pushes through it with gritted teeth. ]
I get they're not actually real, somehow. But it's still kinda fucked up they're just leaving us on our own. The Natives, I mean.

He glanced up to regard the door where Ellie was in a different room.] They don't concern themselves with the stupid choices that some of us make. I wouldn't waste time being bothered by it. They are useful when they need to be.

what's in a wish
And there's.. something odd, isn't there?
The odd thing isn't really him walking around so confidently in a dangerous situation. Not necessarily. Silco usually seems pretty good at keeping a cool head, after all. Even under these circumstances. Maybe he has figured things are only truly dangerous at the edge of town.
But the more Ange looks, the more she realizes-- his eye. It's so weird. And though she knows she ought to be rushing to try and help with the biggest monster here, she can't help but pause that for a second, quickly making her way over to him instead. ]
Silco! What's going on?!
no subject

You mean you haven't noticed? You look different.

My appearance shouldn't matter at a time like this, should it?
no subject
But this thread is much easier to chase down. It means Ange doesn't have to let down her mask when she's already feeling pretty frantic - by her standards - about what's going on here. ]
Of course it matters! [ The girl says. It seems that she's gotten off her goal entirely for a few more moments, because rather than walking on, she's walking closer towards him now. ] Do you think that's just a coincidence? There's clearly something weird going on in town, and it's likely doing something weird to you!

And whatever is happening is likely short-lived as long as the beast rampages in the city.

what's in a wish
Silco, however, is not.
of course, Vi spots him in the crowd. honestly, it's the blue eye that gives him away. she probably would've just let him wander and get his ass beat, but 1) he's changed like some of the people here, and 2) he's walking towards City Hall.
there's a long, drawn out sigh as she runs to step in front of him, her gauntlets raised as she glares at him.]
And where do you think you're going?
no subject
For once, he didn't immediately launch into berated or insulting her. Perhaps that should have been a red flag for changes. He took her measure and remained with a confidence of someone that knew exactly what they were capable of and what they happened to be up against.]
City Hall. I'm no combatant, so it is best I stay out of the way. [He gestured with his head in the direction of the screaming and property damage.] I believe you are needed in that direction.
no subject
she shrugs, rolling her shoulders as she stares him down.]
And why would someone like you be going to City Hall? You know you're not going to get in.
[nobody does, even if it's been blown to smithereens multiple times--]
no subject
I am aware it is locked and barred. Now be on your way.
[He turned and began to walk away from her as if the conversation had reached its natural conclusion.]
no subject
why is he trying so hard to get to City Hall??]
And yet, you're going anyway. Why? Gonna shake your fist at the windows and tell them all how awful they all are in there? Believe me, they already know.
no subject
So affronted. So suspicious. All he was doing was walking to a building he freely acknowledged was locked and barred.]
My business is my business, and I have no reason to divulge anything to the likes of you. Step aside, girl, so I can be on my way. There is nothing illegal happening here, or do you want another sentencing for being unable to control your temper, hmm?
