Sometimes. Some things you learn about can be cooler than others. And science can be real cool whenever it's not confusing!
[And when Hank McCoy is the one teaching it. Though he was only briefly their teacher at Bayville High, at least he was around the mansion to help them out and provide extra lessons.
He nods along at her request, while adding some more sugar to his tea. He looks into it while visualizing the image of his friends.]
Sure, I could tell you all about them! Of course, Scott was there. [He sounds almost tentative to mention his name, but that seems to be what she's asking for.] And he's a cool dude in any world. He was a little different there, though. A lot more serious and no-nonsense. That's why he needs me to lighten things up and help him have fun! But he's also still always the most supportive friend you could ask for.
[She makes a little bit of a face. Science? Not really her thing. Honestly, school wasn't really her thing, even if by the end of the year, she was top of her class. It's not like she'd had any plans for what she'd do after finishing school or anything. It was just what she was supposed to do.
But she listens carefully to what Kurt says, eyes flicking up to meet his when he mentions Scott with that kind of hesitance. There's a bit of encouragement to her smile, as if to try to reassure him that it's okay, really. Even if it hurts, it's still nice to hear about him.]
I met a really serious Scott once. When we were having all those glitches...? It's still really hard for me to imagine, though.
[Her brows pinch together at the fresh reminder that of all the Scotts out there, hers might never come back, and her fingers tighten gently against Phoenix's feathers. Based on what he's told her the other X-Men had said, her Scott is pretty special, huh...?
Forcing another smile, she meets Kurt's eyes again.] I bet you're just as supportive as he is, though! Just differently!
[It's okay, Kotone. He Gets it. He'd make that face at a lot of subjects, especially anything involving complex equations.
He does laugh as she brings up those glitches. Somehow enough time has passed that he almost feels nostalgic about it.]
Oh yeah, those glitches sure were something else! Me and Scott would change mid-conversation. Super trippy, but super funny to look back on! I guess there's a lot of different flavors of us out there.
[He offers a gentle smile towards Phoenix and her, trying to be comforting. He's not about to lose hope for Scott's return! But he gets bashful as she turns the compliment back at him.]
Thanks. I don't like to toot my own horn, but I try my best to be there for people! Even if it's just as the comic relief. [He flicks a finger gun.] Or as a wingman! Me and my world's Scott used to do that for each other.
Making people laugh is really important! [she protests, taking the opportunity to pivot away from talking about Scott for a moment. Phoenix coos in response to Kurt's smile, as if taking the gesture as meant for her and not Kotone, but Kotone seems fixed on that last part.] There was a guy on my team, Junpei -- he always tried to make people laugh, and sometimes we'd laugh at him, but... he was really important.
[She adjusts her grip on Phoenix, allowing her onto the table to make it easier to offer her another cookie, then manages another smile for Kurt.]
People like that are really the heart of a team. [Her eyes sparkle with a bit of amusement, lightening her almost-melancholic expression with the reminder of her friend.] And I bet with Scott as your wingman, you were beating the girls off with a stick, huh?
[He does glance towards Phoenix as she coos - and gently extends a finger to pet the bird's head.]
That Junpei sounds like my kind of people! And I'm glad that you respect the role that a class clown plays in things. It can be very tough work. Like being a comedian for free!
[Kurt chuckles while chewing some more on his cookie. And then gets more bashful when asked about girls.]
You'd think that! I don't think my Scott is quite as smooth as yours, but he did provide some good help and advice for one girl I dated for a while. It was nice!
[Phoenix closes her eyes and bows her head to accept Kurt's gentle pats, very regally. It's good she's being given the attention and respect (and snacks) she deserves, even if her stupid host isn't here.
Kurt calling Scott "smooth" does make her laugh out loud, though, a loud sound of surprise that startles even her as she covers her mouth. It's not nice to laugh at her boyfriend, after all!]
He's a dork! [And yet, somehow, his dorkiness reeled her in when she'd been busy going on dates with boys all over town, so who's the real dork here? She lowers her hand to reveal her smile.] I guess that's his charm point, though.
I know, but trust me, my Scott is a total square compared to this one! [He chuckles some more.] Maybe it's best that he's not here, or Scott could have himself as competition!
