[Though they're using a light enough tone to make it a joke, Morph is regarding that list of questions with a gaze that's miles away.]
I have a friend back home that's sort of like that. It's just his nature to be as loyal as a dog, especially with his friends. ... It can be hard to be treated that well and not mistake it for actual devotion. There's just gotta be a line somewhere, right?
[They look back up to flash him a quick smile, hoping they didn't sound too wistful. Of course stupid Valentine's Day would get Morph thinking about it again, even though they've been stuck in Aldrip for well over half a year now.]
[ Viktor grins. Perhaps he should be embarrassed by that saccharine heart of his, but he isn't. Somehow. In spite of everything. ]
Actual devotion? Would such a thing be so bad, truly?
[ The question is posed earnestly, bright eyes studious, interested. Easy to see Morph wrestling with some bit of homesickness. Difficult to fight the urge to find a way to soothe that plain ember of sadness in them. ]
What would they do, exactly? I do not think that such loyalty must needs be romantic in nature, for what it is worth.
[With questions like that there's not much keeping Morph back from launching into the story, but they're at least going to keep it to the short version.]
He... he once went looking through me when I was going through a bout of supervillain brainwashing. Long story. I was hiding in the jungle on a different continent entirely, and Logan found me and tried to bring me home. Because that's the kind of guy he is.
[And he was the only person on the team who did it, or maybe just the only one that was any good at it. Either way, Morph was pretty sure that Logan never realized how much it meant to them.]
Actual devotion would be nice, but Logan's hung up on a redhead. A married one. I mean, I could look like a red-headed babe if I wanted, but I guess it's not the same when it's your good buddy doing it.
[ A curious turn of phrase, but not one so difficult to parse out. Viktor's gaze falls to the table, to the sheet of paper with the ridiculous questions. He does his best to think of that, the absurdity of it, and not dear friends whose minds have been trapped, poisoned by malicious shadows. Not Thancred. Not Estinien.
Viktor did not know homesickness well before being ripped from his star. It grasps him now, sharp and aching. His expression stills pleasantly, but his rebellious ears bend, weighed by the hurt. It takes him a few seconds longer to come up with something to say, managing only a joke, lightly spoken. ]
Redheads are nothing but trouble.
[ A laugh, a huff of air, escapes him. Pain passes. He clears his throat. ]
It s-sounds as though you have been through much. 'Tis heartening that you should have such a friend, though I am sorry if... feelings were unrequited. No easy thing, certainly. [ Viktor's brows furrow. He lifts a hand, tentative, fingers fluttering, and then rests it on Morph's sleeve. ] I do not know your Logan, yet, I feel 'tis worth saying... the "kind of person" who would, against logic, chase someone into such danger on the chance of bringing them home cares v-very deeply for that someone.
[ He draws away, feeling self-conscious, stretching arms up and behind his back. ]
Wh-what do you mean, by the way? You could look like a red-head?
[And that there is exactly why Morph is unwilling to inflict that whole story on a stranger. It might sound a little silly on first blush, but the guy's clearly caught on to the implications, and that was more than enough. Besides, it wasn't all that relevant to talking about Logan's loyalty ... except that whole mess might be when Morph started to get all those pesky, inconvenient feelings.
The gesture makes Morph break out into a smile,]
Thanks. It's been months since I was pulled away from home... I think I'm a little better now with being someone Logan just cares for. It's given me a lot of time to think about it, anyway.
[That last question prompts a more mischievous look out of Morph before they shapeshift, in a matter of seconds becoming a different person entirely. They're now in the form of the red-head, in fact, a woman in a similarly colorful costume that frames her face. Morph's voice has changed along with it to a more feminine tone, soft-spoken and comforting.]
It's more that I can become a redhead, but semantics, right? I'm Morph, by the way. And what you're seeing is my particular mutant power at work.
