[ Mitsuru is not going to admit that she is out of her depth upon arriving at the farm but... she absolutely is. It's the smell that hits her first. Is this what "fresh, country air" smells like? If so, she's not exactly convinced of the benefits right now. Also, in hindsight, perhaps white pants were a mistake (as was arriving early), even if she had managed to find a suitable pair of boots to wear with them.

It occurs to her that she might know what the person she's meeting looks like from his okcindr posts, but he might not have seen hers in order to match her name to her face. It probably doesn't matter though. The redhead waiting by the entrance might not realise it herself but she kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. Mostly as someone who has clearly never set foot on a farm in her life.

No sign of any sheep yet, they must be in another paddock. However, she does take a slightly wary sidestep as a cow approaches the fence beside her. The source of the smell perhaps? She eyes the creature... and its liquid brown eyes. It is... sort of cute she supposes. ]

[ if mitsuru is early, wolfwood is... surprisingly punctual. for all his sarcastic enthusiasm about the farm visit, maybe he's at least in part genuinely excited.

or he just has too much free time on his hands.

regardless, wolfwood strolls up just a few minutes after their arranged meeting time, unlit cigarette in hand. (he's trying to make them last, now that his brand is... out of stock, so to speak.) even if he hadn't gotten a ten-minute rundown on mitsuru from vash, she's... yeah. the way she looks matches up with the way she talks, that's for sure. wolfwood, in contrast, is wearing an ill-fitting and wrinkled suit, a superfluous pair of sunglasses, and what might be the opposite of suitable footwear. not that his slip-ons are all that great for the sand, either.

he resists the temptation to startle her, just clears his throat and asks, ] 'S that the sheep?

[ Mitsuru's initial verdict when she sees the infamous Wolfwood in person that she is sincerely concerned for the fate of those shoes of his. Then again that suit seems to have been battered already. She can't help but wonder what it is about those from Vash's world that makes them always look as though they've just been deposited to earth by a dust filled tornado. Must be what comes with living on a barren desert planet she supposes.

His question only catches her off guard for a moment. Has he really never seen a cow before? Reminder to self: he really has never seen a cow before. He's from the same planet as Vash and god knows she's heard all about those worms at this point... ]

No. She's actually a cow. [ As if to make the point, the cow lets out a very cow-like moo. Mitsuru pauses. Her usual academic thoroughness dictates that she give him a more detailed explanation... ] It's what we call mature females of the bovine species. Collectively we call them cattle. Males are bulls - hopefully we won't run into one of those.

[ Then again which is worse, a bull or a giant, monstrous worm? ]

[ never seen a sheep, never seen a cow. he probably hasn't seen most of the animals on this farm, honestly. no man's land isn't exactly nature-rich, and if there was any effort made to preserve earth fauna on the ships, he imagines it probably didn't end well.

wolfwood physically startles when the cow moos-- as if the noise is so unexpected he jolts in surprise. (sort of like a cat.) if he looked unimpressed before, he seems ... curious now, at least, if not exactly enthusiastic. ]

What's so bad about 'em? They destroy shoes or somethin'?

[ he's not letting that one go.

really, though, worms aren't that bad. just annoying. especially when taking human shape and nagging at him like it's some kinda game. a more apt comparison to the farm animals would be thoma-- pack animals raised for a purpose. the bird vash has in their garden is a thomas. ]

[ Honestly, a part of her kind of hopes that the creature moos again... His reaction reminds her of her cat Eleanor a bit. Also it's an entirely justified startling in her view once he asks her that question. ]

Do you really think me that concerned about shoes?

[ Look, just because she doesn't want to get farmyard filth on her nice ones does not make her shoe obsessed! She's always had her family's stylist to take care of her footwear choices and... yeah, she realises saying any of that out loud is absolutely not going to help her case here so she just narrows her eyes a bit. ]

They can be quite aggressive in general...

Well, if the shoe fits...

[ badumtiss. although, honestly, he could stand to learn a bit about footwear choices. he's worn every pair he's ever had into the ground-- mostly out of necessity, but if you look at the slip-ons he has and imagine the kind of sand that gets in them.... eugh.

when mitsuru mentions aggressive, wolfwood turns his attention to the cow more closely. big eyes, lots of eyelashes, cute oval ears... and this one is just chewing slowly with no cares in the world. ]

Seriously? This guy-- [ a beat-- ] ...girl don't seem too upset about anythin'. Why d'they even keep the pissy ones around?

[ Without so much as a blink: ] Awful.

[ Honestly, dreadful. Iori levels of bad joke... not that this man knows who that is but just trust her, it's bad.

As he won't cease his shoe talk, she does happen to glance down at his own for a moment, perhaps to assess whether he'd made a sensible choice himself and... clearly he hasn't. She can't help but be mildly concerned, he's from a desert planet, the weather here isn't exactly warm right now and- ] ...Are you not wearing socks?

[ She turns her attention back to the bovine as the creature dips her head to take another large mouthful of grass, helpfully avoiding eye contact as she answers his question because this is absolutely not a topic she usually chats about. ]

For the purposes of... [ uh ] breeding I suppose. [ Do not make her go into the birds and bees. Please. ]

Everybody's a critic.

[ yeah he's been freezing his ass off for months now. temps can get lower in no man's land at night, after the suns go down, but he's certainly never seen snow before coming to aldrip. it's a new level of cold.

judging by his indecent naked ankles, the cold hasn't been enough to spur him to embrace socks. ] Hah? Why would I wear socks?

[ waste of water to wash them...

luckily for mitsuru, he does know what the birds and the bees are. or the worms and the thoma, at least. and if it were meryl, he might rag on her a little more-- what's she so embarrassed for, is she a kid, so on-- but he's not actually all that familiar with mitsuru beyond the category of vash's friend. and he's trying to play nice. wolfwood can't give vash shit for keeping everyone at arm's length if he's also... keeping everyone at arm's length. ] Well, she's pretty cute.

[ wolfwood reaches out to pet the cow, undaunted by the alleged aggressiveness of her male counterparts. the cow blinks and seems unaffected by the experience. ]

Can we head in?

[ Indecent naked ankles indeed. She raises an eyebrow- honestly, she has to explain the reason for socks now? ] To stop your feet getting cold? Also, do you not end up with blisters without them?

[ She watches him go right ahead and pet the cow. Not something she'd felt like daring to do herself. ] I suppose she is.

Let's. [ Look she'll even lead the way like she's been here a million times - except she totally hasn't.

The phrase fish out of water definitely springs to mind as Mitsuru walks through an actual farmyard - there are probably people she knows back home who would find the idea incredulous. Like a dog walking on its hind legs. The moment she walks through the gate a chicken squawks and scuttles across her path and the redhead almost looks like she's about to take a step backwards away from the bird and into Wolfwood, mildly startled. ]
