[Altius takes in her words very seriously, his attention clearly on her as he brings a hand to his chin as he considers. He lets a slow breath out of his nose in a show of that, turning over what he wants to say and how he wants to say it.]

I do admire your dedication, [he begins.] And you're right that it's dangerous here, and we'll inevitably have to worry about our safety.

[She probably suspects there's a but coming by now, and he's not going to prove that wrong.]

There's only so much we're mentally and physically capable of, Ms. Kiramman. I think it's important to strive for improvement as long as we're capable, but there comes a point where... unrealistic expectations are more of a detriment than a help.

[Ask him how he knows—or don't, because it's unlikely for anyone to get a real answer out of him about that.]

Accepting your limits allows you to better prepare, I think. If you recognize where you can and can't change, you can direct your efforts towards methods with better results—like asking for help to cover for those limits.

[Perhaps it sounds too much like a lecture, but he's trying to turn his tone towards something more like tentative advice—and anyway, it's become almost second nature for him to try to guide others, especially younger sorts, so he's not about to let Caitlyn's statements pass without proper comment.]
