Oh. [Now he gets that he means.] Something must have messed with you. That's kinda of a thing that happens here sometimes. Some things can make us act differently than normal, or sometimes it's like it happens at random.
[He shakes his head.]
But as for the inn, it's not far... [He proceeds to give some directions.]
[Zekarion is silent through the separate explanations; the way his eyes momentarily widen at the first and his brow settles into an unsettled frown after is probably enough to say why.
A few more moments pass as he connects the dots. After he left the heavily-perfumed tent with his memory obscured... it should have been immediately obvious. Was his lack of awareness another side-effect?]
Good question! [Kurt answers with a meek smile, while he struggles to think of a fitting answer.]
It's kinda hard to predict when something like this'll go down. For a while, it felt like something was happening every other week! We did reboot this AI thing recently, and I was kinda hoping that would lower the rate of weirdness around here, but um, I'm not really sure what to expect now!
[The fact that Altius isn't taking that well is evident in the darkened look on his face and how he folds his arms.]
So I have no choice but to prepare for the worst.
[It's not that he hasn't done that in the past, but it's never felt this unstable. He's always had some base to work from—he knew the rules. He knew his mind, knew the influences upon it. He knew what he was facing.
Zekarion doesn't know what his enemy is here, and that may be the worst part of it.]
So be it...
[He's become too complacent. His goal was so close he'd let down his guard, and now this has happened; he needs to take several steps back and remember what it was like building everything from the ground up. There's a determined edge that comes to his unpleasant look, at least. That's something.]

[It's not Kurt's fault. If pep talks could get through to Zekarion, he might not have turned supervillain. His amber gaze goes to the young mutant, though he doesn't... look encouraged...]
A community. ... I suppose the desperate often feel the need to believe in such things.
[If that doesn't sound like a compliment... um... don't worry about it.
He turns his focus towards the inn as Kurt indicated a moment ago.]
[Surprisingly, that one doesn't sound like an insult—it just sounds tired. Even if he hasn't enjoyed Kurt's attempt at being chipper, he can appreciate that an effort was made. There are small parts of him that aren't so hateful.]
[He nods slowly. And even though he's not looking, he gives a little wave.]
Um, take care now! It was... nice meeting you. [Probably not the best word, but at least he can consider it nice that helped that guy get out of this carnival?]

[Especially given This whole carnival...]

I- I guess that's one way to look at it. [He tries to offer an encouraging smile.]
It's good to be on our guard! But, uh, there's a strong community here too. We can look out for each other!

R-right. So, uh, will you be okay getting to the inn, or should I walk you the rest of the way...?

I'll manage from here.
[So... he starts walking.]
