FREE NIGHT AT THE CASINO

GAMBLING

Feeling down after that space infestation made you murder some friends? Getting tempted to bury yourself in the sand at the beach so no one can ever perceive you again?

Time for a tone shift! It's a free night at the casino. For tonight only, chips mean nothing -- which means everyone gets a rack of chips when they walk in and can let loose! Entertainment, food, and drink are also free within reason. (Abuse the privilege and find out who works security here the hard way!)

Welcome to Queens, the formerly shady but now revamped and reimagined casino in the entertainment district of Aldrip. Classy and minimalist but not gaudy, it's run, staffed, and heavily patronized by Chosen. Maybe you know someone who works there, maybe someone dragged you in to lighten up for once, maybe you're just stopping by for some fun.

Appropriately, the most popular game of the night is Queen's Blood, with tables set aside purely for teaching. There's also the standard casino games available in spades -- poker, slots, roulette, baccarat, blackjack, and so forth.

AT THE CLUB

It wouldn't be a casino without alcohol, music, and dancing. There's a low-key bar for those looking to have a conversation where they can hear one another over the pleasant live jazz, and a much livelier dance floor set off to the side in a different part of the casino with a DJ playing dance music.

FIGHTING TOURNAMENT

Beneath the casino is a massive underground cavern converted into a fighting arena.

It's a bit hard to find, intentionally -- either you were personally invited by someone or you stumbled across the covert speakeasy-style entrance in a corner of the main floor, possibly from the people jostling to go in and out. The stairs go down and down until they suddenly open out into the huge room, lined in walkways to view the fight.

There's three circuits to the fighting tournament: a bracket for fighting with powers, a bracket for fighting without powers (hand-to-hand and weapons only), and a shooting competition. Toph (fieldtrip) serves as referee for all of the above and is prepared to break up anything that goes too far. This is just for fun, folks!

DOG THERAPY

In one peaceful corner away from the din and bustle is a dog petting station. All manner of adorable and highly trained dogs are available for cuddles and play time.

Some of them are even up for adoption if you want to take one home!

Kakashi (battlefieldbrat) runs and operates this station with the kind supervision of Koromaru, our local good boy.

[Scott barely stops himself from making a somewhat embarrassing noise when Dara's hand shoots out of nowhere to grab his wrist. Like, uh hello to you too, Dara?? Good to you see again and everything?? Honestly, he does like the snake goddess a lot, but he was on a roll here-- and oh. Oh. The young mutant's mouth parts slightly when he sees how big of a payout that was and any irritation he had fades entirely.]

Holy shit!

[He loudly exclaims, sorry fellow patrons. It really is too bad that they aren't actually getting any money from this. He could've taken Kotone out to a really nice dinner. Still, he doesn't hesitate to drag all those chips to his side with a smile, looking somewhat victorious because it's nice to win. Maybe he can be king of the casino??

If he was feeling fully better, he'd tease Kotone about having a new lady luck, but. He can't, even now. Instead, he'll tap Kotone's nose with one of the recently won chips before moving in to briefly kiss her, that affectionate grin returning even as he looks back at Dara.]

Not the comparison I would've made, but thanks. [Wait hold on--] You're playing video games?

[Maybe if Kotone were focusing on her currently-equipped Persona of the Fortune arcana, she could have reached the same conclusion as Dara. Probably not, though, considering her usual strategy is to just brute force it. She only blinks when Dara grabs Scott's wrist, trusting the goddess not to hurt him now that things are back to normal, then gasps at such a big payout.]

Wow!! Nice job!! [Is she complimenting Scott or Dara...? Hard to say as she giggles at the nose boop and returns the kiss without hesitation. She'd never really been one for open physical affection in front of others before, but, well, watching your boyfriend sobbing after your return from the dead kind of puts that stuff into perspective, right?]

We should go to the arcade together sometime! [And she just takes Dara's gamer admission in stride, laughing a little but as she grabs a chip off the pile to offer it to the snake goddess.] I used to play the quiz game there all the time!

[She needed it for Academics... Mitsuru would only hang out with her if she was a Genius.]

[Dara can overlook the outright PDA happening right next to her because they look that darn excited. She even takes the chip from Kotone, flipping it through her fingers for idle examination.]

Not actively, but it used to be a daily activity with the Misogiya kids. Playing on their Zwitch, card games, using Merf guns, that sort of stuff. [There's a mumbled "shouldn't be playing so much on the mountain though" before she clears her throat.] Anyways, I rarely go to the arcade on my own, but I wouldn't mind joining.

[And show no mercy!!! Not that she looks at it that way. There's also the unsaid assumption that Shinjiro would be coming along too.]

Quiz games barely count as games.

[Scott snorts, even though he's clearly having a good time still. But seriously, who wants to be quizzed on their knowledge?? Those types are no fun, especially if they're video games. They should be shooting zombies or fighting each other's characters, not being tested on history. Or geography. Dara should be playing things that are actually fun!!

Well, good thing he's here. He can't have his girlfriend rope Dara into the worst parts of the arcade. Let the master do his work.]

Yeah, we wouldn't mind taking you sometime. [Shinjiro can come too.] Show you the real good stuff, like Road Brawler II. There's a couple of racing games that are pretty fun too.

[She can form legs, right?? So, shouldn't be a problem there.]

[Sorry Scott, she can't resist the little sing-song tease as she giggles at him. Not that like, she'd be an expert on Aldrip trivia anyway, probably? Anyway, she has no idea what a Zwitch or Merf guns are, but they sound really fun!! Maybe she can find something like that here... oh!

She brightens immediately.]

What card games do you play, Dara-san? We could play some right now!!

[Especially in the wake of Scott's massive payout, they can afford to relax. It's not like it's real money anyway.]

Racing games...With the cars, right? [Not running or horses!] If it's anything like Lario Cart, then that should be fine. I haven't driven or ever been in a car before.

[Not that she can't learn! Considering how much technology does force her to gain new knowledge (including videogames), it's not that hard to try something new and study it. Nerd thriving era.

As for the invitation to play now, Dara's eyes creep back over to the roulette table then back to Scott specifically. She already has a sense that Kotone has a great poker face, but not her boyfriend. Even with his weird glasses obscuring his eyes.]

It doesn't really matter what game. I'm pretty good at picking up rules and strategies.

[Kotone being the top of her class... Scott was so surprised when she first told him that because when did she have the time to study? But he's just come to accept that as another odd trait of his girlfriend, the same person that makes him smile just a little more despite those cluster of emotions that sometimes resurfaces. He truly loves her.

Doesn't mean he'll go easy on her in a card game, assuming that she plays. She's so far enjoyed just hanging around by his side, a position that Scott's gotten very comfortable with. It feels like everything is normal and okay and so he smiles at Dara once more.]

We could play a round of Texas Hold'Em. Or regular poker. Whichever game though, I won't go easy on you.

[Walked right into that one, buddy. She laughs with abandon and kisses Scott's cheek in spite of the dig, grinning over at Dara as if expecting the goddess to think it's equally as funny. She's proud of it!! Laugh!!]

I just wanna watch you two play. I'm not brave enough to try to take on a goddess.

[And that's another joke, clear in the way her eyes sparkle, though this one's more for her. She has nothing if not a long track record of fighting gods and goddesses -- but not playing cards with them!]
