Free Night at the Casino

Who: OPEN to all / mingle log
Where: Queens (the casino!)
What: Wow July sure was a month! Time to take a breather and have a night out, courtesy of Toph and Mitsuru!

FREE NIGHT AT THE CASINO
GAMBLING
Feeling down after that space infestation made you murder some friends? Getting tempted to bury yourself in the sand at the beach so no one can ever perceive you again?

Time for a tone shift! It's a free night at the casino. For tonight only, chips mean nothing -- which means everyone gets a rack of chips when they walk in and can let loose! Entertainment, food, and drink are also free within reason. (Abuse the privilege and find out who works security here the hard way!)

Welcome to Queens, the formerly shady but now revamped and reimagined casino in the entertainment district of Aldrip. Classy and minimalist but not gaudy, it's run, staffed, and heavily patronized by Chosen. Maybe you know someone who works there, maybe someone dragged you in to lighten up for once, maybe you're just stopping by for some fun.

Appropriately, the most popular game of the night is Queen's Blood, with tables set aside purely for teaching. There's also the standard casino games available in spades -- poker, slots, roulette, baccarat, blackjack, and so forth.
AT THE CLUB
It wouldn't be a casino without alcohol, music, and dancing. There's a low-key bar for those looking to have a conversation where they can hear one another over the pleasant live jazz, and a much livelier dance floor set off to the side in a different part of the casino with a DJ playing dance music.
FIGHTING TOURNAMENT
Beneath the casino is a massive underground cavern converted into a fighting arena.

It's a bit hard to find, intentionally -- either you were personally invited by someone or you stumbled across the covert speakeasy-style entrance in a corner of the main floor, possibly from the people jostling to go in and out. The stairs go down and down until they suddenly open out into the huge room, lined in walkways to view the fight.

There's three circuits to the fighting tournament: a bracket for fighting with powers, a bracket for fighting without powers (hand-to-hand and weapons only), and a shooting competition. Toph ([personal profile] fieldtrip) serves as referee for all of the above and is prepared to break up anything that goes too far. This is just for fun, folks!

Sign up in the comment below and maybe you'll even win something! Toph promises a super cool prize to the winner of each circuit!
FORTUNE TELLING
Get a free tarot reading!

It does seem like some of the glitching in Aldrip has made it maybe a little more accurate than usual lately... or maybe that's inaccurate? Feel free to have the cards have a real effect on them with a glitch!
DOG THERAPY
In one peaceful corner away from the din and bustle is a dog petting station. All manner of adorable and highly trained dogs are available for cuddles and play time.

Some of them are even up for adoption if you want to take one home!

Kakashi ([personal profile] battlefieldbrat) runs and operates this station with the kind supervision of Koromaru, our local good boy.

[Oh look, it's his favorite person in the world.

Although, honestly, Scott barely feels any irritation when Akechi slides up to the table. He was somewhere on his list of people to check on after the gnosia incident, although he sort of counted on Kotone to do that. He knows that they're friends at least, unlike whatever weird sort of friendship they have. But... the detective waited for her to leave, not the other way around. Does he want to beat him that badly in poker? ...Probably, but it doesn't change the fact that Akechi's just talking with him right now.

It's kind of nice.]

Let's go a round, find out. [He manages to challenge him back, but a lot of that bold energy is still gone from his person. Scott's just quieter, a little more reserved, even though he's trying on some level to engage the older teen. Adult. Whatever.]

[Isn't he just one ray of sunshine! Here to brighten your day and so on.

Well, anyway. Akechi does take the notice of the lack of the usual energy and idiotic sass that he's come associate with the mutant. Call it the reckless confidence and immaturity that ever so often comes with teenage. Or something. Akechi never really had much luxury to act like those around his age so he's come to just view that behavior as something akin to Other, not himself.]

Alright, then. Choose a game. [He says, a small grin on his face as he reaches to pick up the card deck and hands it over to the dealer.]

Texas hold'em then.

[Maybe before, he would've played up that reckless confidence, even though poker and casino games really aren't his style. It's mostly luck based, right? And he thinks luck games are dumb. Still, he normally would've tried to be a little more active and energetic about it, especially with Kotone by his side. Now, however, his girlfriend went to the bathroom to freshen up, leaving him with that more quiet demeanor.

They went here together as a date, to have fun. And...

Guess if he really thinks about it, it has been fun being out here. Maybe it's just the fact that he feels a little normal again more than anything else. Betting for 'fun,' being around his girlfriend and friends... Akechi egging him on in his own way.]

I didn't know you liked these type of games, Akechi. [He softly acknowledges.]

All right then. [He hums in agreement and nods towards at the dealer who begins to shuffle the deck in their hands.

Sure, luck is an essential element in the game but hardly the only affecting factor. There are a few tactics that one can use to secure more certain win for themselves.]

I do enjoy any competitive game that allows me to exercise my wits and luck. Given that the opponent proves out to be worth of my time, of course. [Because as much as he likes to flaunt his excellency he still appreciates a good challenge. It is exactly the reason why Akira had caught his attention the first time -- a someone who could not only keep up with him but also challenge his way of thinking and cognition. Of course, he does not expect same level of engagement from Scott Summers of all people, but still. While the mutant was rather easy to play around he managed to raise up to the occasion once or twice, saying or doing something to catch him by a surprise.

So, who knows? Maybe this is just the right kind of distraction that Akechi needs at the moment.

A chance to show off, while also being challenged to keep the opponent in check.]

What about you, Summers? I didn't think you'd be one to indulge in cards.

I don't intend to go down easy.

[He lightly remarks, despite knowing that Akechi probably doesn't see him as an opponent worthy of his time. Or maybe he's giving him a chance in his own way; he is the one that sat over here and challenged him to a game. It's kind of nice. A part of Scott wants to rise up to the older teen's expectations anyway, if only because it's something new to focus on. Better than dwelling back on all the things that happened a couple of weeks ago.

Another step to feeling more like himself.

As the cards are dealt out to them, Scott pulls them close, but he doesn't yet check what they are.]
Challenging myself to new things, I guess.

[Well, Kotone is the main reason why he's out here, but he's not going to say that.] Finding new ways to beat you.

[Despite his words, Scott still sounds soft spoken. It's less about egging Akechi on and more that he doesn't want to appear like a sad sack in front of him.]

[The lack of energy and Scott's usual annoying gusto doesn't go amiss of Akechi. And well, considering the most recent events that went down around the town with the infection, it really is no surprise to see that the other teen is also feeling under the weather. He must have, too, gotten caught in the bad end of it all. Something that Akechi could sympathize with, considering that he hadn't exactly escaped unscathed either.

It is almost sad to watch him try wriggle in the seat opposite to him, trying to muster up some of the positivity and sass. Failing to sell it, of course.]

Remind me again, when was the last time you actually beat me?
laserguy: (what do you think)

[personal profile] laserguy 2024-09-01 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's that familiar attitude. Scott doesn't rise up to the bait, however, the teen snorting as he finally takes a quick glance at his cards before letting them rest on the table once more. He doesn't have an amazing hand so far, but honestly, he's a little more focused on the older teen. It's strange, how maybe a year ago, he would've gotten riled up by his presence or his words, but... he's used to him now? He's grown slightly?

Knows that there's way more worse shit than Akechi throwing whatever shade at him? So, the mutant just lightly rolls his eyes behind his shades, the corner of his mouth quirking upward.]

You know, Akechi, I'm also having a hard time remembering when you beat me. [...] Guess this a chance for both of us.
