[The brief hope that Mitama fully understands him immediately vanishes when she continues on, mentioning that he also wanted to hurt Ryoji. Or maybe it just stings more because she really does understand everything that happened. He wanted to save Ryoji-- that's why Kotone and him faced the other teen in the first place, but when she died in front of his eyes... everything became harder. Emotions rose and he knew he wanted to hurt him for a moment. She is right.

But... it's not just that.
