[it's a (relatively) cool evening in aldrip, and kakashi is in a small clearing in the woods, doing his exercises. first he runs through a set of basic katas, flowing easily between each pose. then, it's sword practice time. his practice is basic, but clearly well-worn and well known. finally, he takes out the throwing knives. he tosses them at a tree, landing them in a neat vertical line.

he can be interrupted, just announce yourself. it's for your safety, really.]

it's getting smol in here

[one day, if anyone happens to come by kakashi's place to help take care of dogs, or just happens to walk past kakashi's house in general, they might notice something odd. the dogs are congregating around something...or someone...in the center of the yard.

upon investigation, one will find a small boy, who surely can't be older than three or four years old, sitting amongst the dogs. they are giving him lots of attention, nudges, licks and the like, but rather than giggling or fussing like a normal child kakashi is very solemnly trying to give them all pets.]

Let's see...You can be Bull, you can be Goldie, you can be - hey, stop pushing in line! And you can be...

[it seems that, finding himself in a strange place full of friendly dogs, he's decided to keep them. all of them. and once he has the BEST PACK OF DOGS EVER, maybe he'll figure out where the hell he is.]

now bring it back, old-style

[another day, kakashi wakes up and....oh. huh. suddenly he's twenty-six instead of twelve. how did that happen again?

nonplussed, he decides he might as well get on with his life in aldrip. the dogs are out next door just as he remembers, toph's house is next door...toph. the one friend he never managed to kill, it'll be nice to see her again. and he is the responsible type. so...

he feeds and waters the dogs, giving them their typical ten-at-a-time morning walk through aldrip. he might even wave to those he knows as he passes by.

once that's done, he reports to the casino as usual, walking in as though he belongs and taking up point in a shady corner. every now and then he steps in to stop an altercation or calm down a rowdy customer, but for the most part he hangs around in the corners, seemingly reading a small orange book and not paying attention at all.]

[Okay, maybe he should lay off a little. He's mostly had his fun now, although Scott can still think of several ways to poke at Kakashi. He'll just save them for later, can't keep on hitting him comment after comment. Showing mercy and all that.]

[He's like in his twenties or so, at least. That means he stayed the same rank over the course of ten years. Wow. That's almost inspiring.]

[that's what everyone says about him, anyway. bastards.]

Of course, it would be difficult to rise in rank...

[considering that at this point there are like three people in the entire village who out rank him. it's not like he'll ever get promoted to hokage one day hahahahahahahaha.]

[...At least he acknowledged it??? Although, it's hard to tease Kakashi about it now. Wait, what is he saying? He said he was going to stop teasing him anyway. Yeah, exactly, that's why he's not pestering him more about that.

Instead, Scott lifts a hand against his waist.]

Already a super high ranking ninja? [...] Man, doesn't it kind of suck to be one of the best at a young age? Like, what are your goals now?

Merely to serve the village to the best of my ability, and pass down my knowledge to the next generation.

[so humble! so kind! such wisdom!! look at him being all amazing and shit.]

I have students, now, and it's my job to train their impressionable little minds.

[never mind that scott is barely older than his students. they are little because they're his.]

[Wow, Kakashi really is old, already talking about passing his knowledge to the next generation. Guess that's how these things go, huh? Although...]

Huh, seriously? You're a teacher with actual students? [So, he's a ninja teacher, got it. He never would've imagined something like this before meeting the adult version of his friend, but honestly? After chatting with him like this, seeing the ease that he carries himself-- hell he even jokes now, it's not completely unbelievable.

Granted, some teachers are just boring assholes, but.]

Guess you're pretty happy with how things turned out?

[Look, Scott's just so so tired of hearing his friends suffer some terrible fate back home. A lot of them are just dead. Even if this glitched version of Kakashi isn't his actual future, it's still nice to believe so.]

[so many things have gone wrong since he can remember being in aldrip. rin's death, minato and kushina, so many of his other friends, the ever-looming threat of war that hangs over the village and stresses him out more the more attached he becomes to his students - but - there's no reason to dump all that on scott. from this perspective, he's practically a kid. so instead he crinkles into a smile. that's easy enough, he does it all the time. acting like how he thinks obito would act.]

Everything's great!

[Squints.

He sounds like how Kotone or some of his other friends would say that everything is great when things definitely aren't so. Half the time someone says something like that to him, there's usually something fucked up going on. Like Scott can imagine his friends internally screaming or whatever.

Still, maybe's he just reading too much into this. It doesn't stop the mutant from frowning at Kakashi, his arms folding across his chest.]

You're bullshitting me, aren't you?

Pessimistic, much?

[he asks, still cheery.]

I'm living in a time of peace. [ish.] What more could I ask for?

[More squinting behind those shades.]

Everything's really okay? [Still a little dubious, but.] Just happily teaching your students the way of the ninja without things going to shit around you?

[Maybe he can hope that things are okay for Kakashi. Like how Mikey's future is bright back home. It's nice to believe in.]
