I've Been Through the Desert on a Horse with No Name
Who: Tsuna and you!
Where: In the Desert
What: To complete his sentencing, Tsuna has led an expedition out into the desert to find the ruins of Tresed, and see if anything has changed Last time
Warnings: Risk of injury and possible death, hallucinations, monsters. Additional warnings to be added if needed.
OOC Notes:
-You do not need to have responded to the OOC Interest Check or the IC Interest Check to join in. Please feel free to dive right in!
-Timeline wise, ICly the expedition will return prior to the 15th so that we're all back for the event, but please don't feel you have to rush anything
-On a more personal note, while there is a risk of death with this expedition and if that's a direction you're interested in going for please do, I would also like to keep the body count to a minimum if possible. The ramifications of leading a bunch of people to their deaths is not necessarily something I want to play out with Tsuna at this time. Thank you!
The Expedition and Scouting Parties
The thing about deserts is that they are harsh environments. Unforgiving, some might say. The sun beating down, the wind whipping sand, the sound of monsters making their way through the desert. It's not the kind of place anyone would really want to go into, and yet, Tsuna is determined. Whether it is the effects of his sentencing or his own backbone finally making itself known, he has led this group into the desert for answers. It's not easy, and it weighs on him, but his face is set as he sends out small scouting parties, consulting maps and other information that he has, hoping to find the ruins of Tresed.
Sandstorms are prevalent in the area, so small scouting parties are being sent out to try and find some paths through it. Going out too far runs the risk of getting lost, injury, or potentially death. There are some monsters about, but they also have to contend with the storm.
The Oasis
But eventually, relief comes. An Oasis is discovered with clean, fresh water and edible vegetation. A respite from the harsh winds of the sandstorm. It's a chance to catch their breath and consolidate what they have learned so far. But as is so often the case in this world, things are quick to go awry. Mirages, of course, a key part of any desert expedition, start to appear. Images from that previous trip out to the ruins.
If you were on that previous trip to the desert, you've seen these images before but something about them seems off, wrong, not quite right. Warped, some might say.
If this is all new to you, you're seeing something that's happened before. But if it is wrong or right, who's to say?
But it might not matter if you've been in the desert before or not, because this vision is from the perspective of one of the Shadow Creatures that attacked before, and were ultimately killed. It comes with feelings of aching hunger, despair, and mindless fear in those final moments.
Or maybe it isn't an image of the desert at all. Maybe it's something far more familiar. An image of home, in the past, the present, or the future.
The Message and Returning Home
A message appears on the Chosen's tablets. Text, barely legible but undeniably a message:
FIND ME
But despite searching, and Tsuna will want to be thorough, the source will not be found, and they will be unable to trace it.
It's not much, but it is something. And they can return to Aldrip with that knowledge. One thing is clear though. They are not done with the desert yet.

It can definitely both! Fake crazy... crazy fake? [He shrugs.] But man... that's a nice view!
no subject
For some reason it seems.. weirdly amused? It's not like it's a strong emotion on her, but given the way she's acted around him before, it likely stands out enough to leave that sort of impression. ]
Yeah? You like high places?
[ It's not like Ange has ever really considered what other people would think of this view - not when she originally came up to this place for entirely different reasons back home.
But rather than let this dumb place force her to open up about something that personal, it feels safer to instead ask Kurt that. ]
no subject
They can be pretty cool! It's great to look out after the city, yeah? And my powers kinda shave off some of the danger...
[He teleports to the other side of the fence, then instantly teleports right next to Ange.]
What about you? Are you afraid?
[He's often not sure what to expect from Ange, but he wonders!]
no subject
[ In fact, when the girl says that, she's already moving to latch onto the fence. First with one hand, then with a foot - like she's intending to just casually climb over it.
It might seem like a dangerous action, especially since it's not like she's actually told Kurt what powers she has, other than the fact she's a witch.. Yet the girl indeed does not seem scared at all to be climbing the fence of an actual skyscraper. The ground is so, so far away that it's barely even visible. ]
There's no real danger here. [ She says as she's at it. ] So what's there to be afraid of in the first place?
no subject
You got a point there! You didn't really need a demonstration on top of that...
[He then teleports up to the top of the fence to watch her climb from up there.]
Sure it's not real and all, but... man, it sure does feel lifelike doesn't it?
no subject
Still, it's not like she's going to awkwardly stop climbing mid-fence. Ange at least keeps going until she can pull herself up enough to sit down on the top of the fence, holding onto it with both of her hands at her sides. ]
That's what this place does. [ She comments once she's finally settled on top of the fence. ] This place takes stuff from our memories and our lives and just projects them into this world like this. It's not even the first time that it's done this.
[ Though it does seem to be stronger out here than it was last time, from what she can remember.. Then again, is that so weird when this entire place has been off for a while now? ]
no subject
[He says, not sounding too pleased with it. After that whole tower trial the other month which used his memory of Mystique's fall. But he brushes that unpleasant reminder aside while perching beside Ange to look out from the fence.]
So you've been up here before? This where you're from? [He is curious to get to know Ange better.]
no subject
But this is the country I'm from, the world I'm from, and I've stood here on this rooftop before.
[ She glances behind them momentarily, at the door that leads out onto the rooftop, but then turns her gaze back to the view once more. ]
I remember a bunch of security guards chasing me all the way up here. It was a real pain.
no subject
[Then he gives an amused smirk as she recalls the security guards.]
Wow, you outran the fuzz? I didn't know you had that rebellious streak in you! What, were you trying to sneak up here?
no subject
Not that Ange is offended by that idea. Really, it more just seems to suit Kurt. It feels natural that he'd view it that way, even though Ange herself never could. ]
It wasn't really sneaking.
[ .. okay.
Maybe technically it was sneaking. But still. ]
They didn't care about me being up here or anything. It's not like this place is off-limits. It's just that those guys got really panicked whenever I was out of their sight for five entire seconds.
no subject
Oh, so they were like your guards. Whoa, if you have your own guards watching over you, you must be rich or famous or something! [He realizes he doesn't know much about Ange, aside from her having some kind of witchcraft going on.] Right?
no subject
[ It's an affirmative hum, but it's so flat, devoid of emotion. It makes it kind of hard to tell whether Ange thinks that's a good thing or a bad thing.. Or maybe it's neither? ]
Both of those things, actually. [ She swings her legs a little, clearly unafraid of being all the way up here. ] I had to have 24/7 security, whether I wanted it or not.
no subject
[He seems a lot more excited about this than Ange does. It's just cool to learn these unexpected things about her! She's fearless up here on this roof, real or no, and she's suddenly famous?]
It's gotta be a bummer having those guys follow you around all the time. But still it's gotta be so cool being famous! What kinda celebrity are you? [He gasps.] Don't tell me you're like an undercover pop star?
[Unfortunately, Kurt's too early to be able to specifically mention Hannah Montana.]
no subject
Then again, maybe that's the exact reason Ange isn't giving an answer right away. It's not even like she minds talking about this, since it's a simple fact of her life at this point, but she feels like it'd make Kurt feel bad for asking.
And maybe she's - sometimes - more thoughtful than she likes to indicate. ]
Do you think I look like an undercover pop star? [ She instead asks because of that - as flatly as ever.
Whatever, talking about something dumb than this is better than having to tell Kurt she's only famous for having a dead family. ]
no subject
[He leans closer and gets a better, more analytical look at her. Then he raises his hands and forms a square shape with them in front of her face, as if trying to picture how she'd look on tv.
Then after a moment, he speaks.]
No, but that actually means. Because you don't look like one, that could mean you're just really good at being undercover! Then again, I've never heard you sing in the shower or anything, so I have no idea how good your singing chops are... [He ponders further!]
no subject
If not just because she's a little curious about the conclusion he'll reach. Ange truly has no idea what it might be at this point..
.. and then also has no idea whether to be offended or not when he says she doesn't look like one. Is that a good thing? A bad thing? Does she really care? (Okay, the answer to the latter is at least 'not really', but the other questions go unanswered!) ]
I don't sing.
[ Wow, Kurt! A clue, just for you..! ]
Singing in front of an entire crowd of people seems like a true nightmare to me. [ Though she says it with such a flat voice that it's hard to tell if it's truly a nightmare or more of an inconvenience.. It's difficult without some emotion going on here! ]
no subject
Okay, so it's sounding like it's probably not that! Do you play any instruments? You don't have to look directly at the crowd for that! Ooh, or are you some kind of author? I bet you write some dope novels!
no subject
[ ...
Whatever, she may as well go along with it, right? It's better than talking about the reason she's actually so well known in her world that she'd need security guards to keep her from getting killed by just going around the place. ]
I'm an author. I write murder mysteries. [ It's not like it's that far from the truth...
Besides, if Ange was forced at gunpoint to pick a job, she thinks that's something she wouldn't mind all that much. ]
no subject
That's so cool! And I can totally see that, too. Murder mysteries sound right up your alley!
[It is cool to imagine! He wonders about the works she's made.]
Man, you must be real good if your career's already popping off! Do you have any of your books with you? I'm not the biggest reader, but now I really wanna try one of yours!
no subject
This is even weirder. ]
Why are you so interested? [ She can't help but ask because of that, staring at him. ]
no subject
[He gives a soft shrug, while smiling at her.]
I just found out someone I live with is some hot-shot author! I'm excited for you, and it makes me real curious to see your writing for myself. I wanna be supportive, and I guess it's one way to get to know you better!
no subject
Not even just because she was lying. Ange is pretty sure that this would still be weird to her even if she had been fully honest. There's just something about his entire attitude that's that foreign to her. ]
Do you just.. want to be supportive of everyone around you?
[ Ange says this like it's some very weird thing, mind you. It's like she's asking him about his very unique odd hobby or something, rather than about a basic social thing a whole lot of people do.. ]
All the time?
[ Kurt, how can you be decent to other people!! ]
no subject
Well, maybe not every minute of the day. A guy's gotta sleep sometime!
[He says that with a laugh.]
But I mean, yeah, basically? I want to be there for my friends and support them and help them out when I can. I thought that was a normal thing. Homies got each other's back, yo!
Is that so strange?
no subject
So.. ]
I don't know.
[ Ange opts for the honest answer this time, despite her earlier lie. ]
I've never really seen people do that. I guess it's the.. [ .. she's struggling with saying this, apparently. ] .. the nice thing to do.
no subject
He figures he just has to do what he can to show her a good example.]
Right! That's how people should be, really. I guess some people get caught up in looking out for number one. When they could also look out for a number of friends too! [He offers her an encouraging smile.] You know, you don't have to talk about niceness like it's a foreign concept. But I can get you better acquainted with it!
