Oh! Hu's not really familiar with centaurs but what's important is that he's obviously not human. There's a second or two of surprise (the happy kind) but she doesn't seem to mind at all.
"It is true, with four feet you have much better footing...and humans can't carry nearly as much as a horse could. But they do like to compete and show off, so that does make sense!" Does she believe it? Doesn't matter, she's not going to suggest he has no idea what he's talking about.
"But...what is 'swole?'" She knew many languages, but slang was always tricky.
Aw yes, he's winning at social interaction. Vic nods decisively. "They're doin' their best but they won't ever have it, really."
Uh oh.
"Swole. It's, y'know. Yoked. Jacked. Brawned down, or, I unno, brawned up? Diced. Ripped! Shredded." How does anyone not know 'swole', it's like his whole deal, even if he's less so now than he was before going to sea. Hard to maintain the physique on a pirate ship, even with protein muffins, but that does make him more reluctant to just flex and say like me. Oh, he's still bulky and strong, but he does not have abs right now or crisp muscle definition. "You know, you gotta work out a lot... eat protein, don't drink too much water..."
"Oh I don't know, you should not hold that against them. They have spirit!"
She cants her head as Vic tries synonyms. Sadly none of them really land. "You mean...physically fit? Hm...perhaps I should try after all." Hu's clearly not a body builder, but physical strength aside she's in pretty good shape.
"Well... I mean... yeah..." Vic mumbles, feeling sweat break out on the back of his neck. He's spent several years masking admiration by getting unnecessarily aggro because his sire always said a sincere compliment was mare-ish and would get him ostracized. Outside of the rarefied environment of the young stallion's side of the Centaur Pastures people don't really make a habit of talking like that, as he's slowly realized.
It's hard being manly and also trying to get people to like him. It's really hard!
"Sorta, but, big also. But I mean I'm sure you'd do good," he says hastily.
"Yeah! That." For no particular reason he thinks it's too cute a word for him to use, but, it's cool for girls. Vic switches his tail idly. "Do you work out? I kinda had to fall off a bit recently but I do. Dunno if they have gyms here, or like... centaur gyms, anyway. It's like pretty much all humans here."
"I do not know, I must say I haven't explored the city that much. This festival has been too much fun!
"But you are correct, I thought perhaps it was only humans here for awhile." Even the green girl, she could have just been a weird race of human for all Hu knew. "They are not giving you much trouble, are they?"
"Nah." Vic makes a face and flaps a hand. "Though they could. My dam always told me don't go in human cities and she was right, as always. Sometimes it's okay, but one time in Bustardo I went and got a real nice breakfast and it was poisoned 'cause they wanted to steal some of my kidneys. Or all my kidneys. I didn't ask."
That... hadn't gone well, and it penetrates Vic's thick skull that there are more humans here and he's not part of a pirate crew who might see it as their duty to help him out and escape. Or a method of escape, for that matter. There's always running...
"Oh! That's terrible! I am glad you got away alright." She assumes, since he's standing here talking to her. "Sometimes people can be quite terrible."
This was a city, so they should have rules against things like that...but they likely did wherever Bustardo was too. With so few (obviously) non-humans here she wonders how much of a problem that might be.
"There was kinda a lot of trouble with the police..." Vic mutters, scraping a forehoof like a dinner plate on the ground. "I kinda did kill a few people. In self-defense, though! And, caked some cops on the way out... my friends kinda made a way bigger mess, so then we were all wanted."
He would have thought that would have been his crime here or whatever, but it's something worse that he can't just talk about, even to a nice girl. Even if she didn't think it was a big deal, it would look stupid that he wanted to keep it hidden.
"If it was in self defense it was fine, but I don't know if they would see it that way. It is always good to have friends to help out with things like that...I don't suppose they made the trip here with you?"

"Oh you mean like...buff?"
She's pretty sure she's heard that word in that context.
