[She holds back from bursting out in full crocodile tears because that's probably the last thing any of them need. But she is teary-eyed when she pulls away, still sniffing loudly to hold them back. She lets go of the hug, but not of his arm that she instantly wraps both of her hands around, refusing to let go- if Senpai's gonna disappear, she's going with him!
...]
Mhmm. This morning. Or yesterday morning. [She shakes her head,] I can't really tell. What is this place, Senpai?
[He's still maybe the slightest bit stunned, and after everything that's happened recently, Yu can't decide whether he's glad she's here, or worried, or both. Either way, his expression is mild, masking whatever trepidation he may be feeling at the moment. He's still happy to see her, after all.
What is this place. Isn't that the question.]
It's called Aldrip, [...is the easier part of the explanation, but even though he pauses for a second, it's clearly not the only part.] Most people seem to think of it as a prison. Like we're supposed to be "rehabilitated" for crimes.
[Hmm. There may be a little bit of a dry tone to those words. He doesn't seem to take much stock in this system.]
When you got here...did you find a piece of paper with you?
[Yu always looked lost in thought when he's in public, and she thinks she had broken whatever train of thought he had before. She can't tell if that's a good thing or not because he looked happy to see her- but also not? Her grip on him lessens a little.
She doesn't get to make a comment on a silly name of this place (DRIP), when the last part of the explanation hits.]
Crimes!? I didn't do any crime! And you- WE didn't do any crime! [NOW she looks panicked and lets go of him, trying to process the thought. Was it really a crime to chase after a murderer in the TV's? But if they didn't- oh.]
Y- Yes, yes I did. Uh, [she digs through her pockets, and pulls out what she got, and hands it to him.] I didn't read it through in detail. I mean- I thought it was a joke when that robot gave me the paper with 'chosen one'.
[She's right, of course, and now she's also panicking a bit, which-- definitely wasn't the idea.]
I know, [he's quick to say, trying to keep his tone steady and steadfast as always. Whatever this place says, they know what they did -- and what they didn't do. They know how necessary any of it was. And nothing else matters.
Yu takes the paper from her, but hesitates in unrolling it for a second. Thoughtfully, he hands his to her, as well.]
Sorry. It's not a joke. You don't have to show me what's on yours, if you don't want, but-- here.
[His is full of fairly simple information. Height, 180cm. Age, 18. Persona, wildcard. His listed crime, assault on a police officer. Some people prefer to keep that information to themselves. But since he basically advertised it over the network, he doesn't figure there's much of a point in hiding it.]
It's-- technically true, I guess. But their understanding of crimes and justice is really lacking in nuance.
[Okay, that calms her down a little, that little bit of reassurance to turn off the nagging voice in her head that there was something wrong with what they did. Yes, they hid what they were doing from others, but it was for everyone's good!
She takes the paper, tilting her head a bit at the 'wildcard'- it must be all the different personas he changes. Huh, it has a name. She shakes her head, and points at the papers she gave him,] It's fine. I mean- well. You know everything already that happened to me.
[She carefully folds the paper he gave her,] I just didn't know it would come to haunt me, for real. I made peace, didn't I? I accepted it all and am trying to make amends. [She doesn't know how this place knew about it.
Behind the first piece with "chosen", there is a second piece of paper with all her data, from her name, her current residence, even her measurements, and for her crimes states: Fraudulence and deceit. She wouldn't have shown that piece of paper to anyone she didn't know, but it's senpai, so it's fine, right?]
[Fraudulence and deceit...there is some sympathy in his expression. All of the crimes seem targeted, like they're attempting to poke at weaknesses and sore spots. But it must be hard to see anyway, especially when it's something you've worked so hard to get over.
Yu does his absolute very best not to look at the rest of the information as he rolls the parchment back up and hands it to her.]
It doesn't make it better, exactly, but a lot of them do get really personal like that. Like someone's trying to get a reaction out of us. And-- some of them aren't even true to begin with.
[Even if he looked, she wouldn't mind- again, he saw the worst part of her, anything else pales in comparison. She takes the paper back and pockets it, sighing deeply.]
That's so not fair when there are real criminals out there committing crimes and putting people in danger.
[Although, even as she says that, she stops to ponder that while yes, it wasn't her fault about what happened to her, but it did get the guys into trouble. Her shadow went nuts, for lack of a better word, she could've easily been the reason they were all dead! She shudders at the thought.]
[She has a point, and the faint smile that flickers in his expression seems to concede to that.]
I can't argue with that.
[The fact that they're here when Adachi had come and gone...it doesn't exactly feel like the pursuit of justice. He pauses, his expression sobering a bit.]
That said, there are some people here who've done some pretty unsavory things. Not everyone, but definitely some. It's best if we all stick together, when we can.
