I pray to the Gods they do not. [ Pyrrha shakes her head, red bangs falling into her eyes; she pushes them out of the way, tucking them back against her circlet. ] They are a plague on my world. Soulless shadow beasts that devour everything in their path. They are attracted to negative emotion. It makes cities and their populace very appealing.
[ Pyrrha doesn't know this place well yet, but the lack of hunters and huntresses walking around had certainly been noted. Caitlyn's confusion causes some within Pyrrha, blinking in mild bewilderment. ] Yes - your power. It comes from your aura?
[ Adding more unfamiliar words to the mix probably isn't helping your case, Pyrrha. Still, she punctuates her question with a demonstration, lifting her hand and allowing it to show her visible aura - a red glow, pulsing for a brief moment before fading again. ]
I've never met anyone with the same semblance as me. I call it polarity. [ Two others, even! ]
[She's really just continuing with the insults...... wow. Scott's mouth parts, at first silent because what is happening?? She's really not understanding-- and dude, did she just call him her Scott's dad?! Hell no--]
Pyrrha has always liked the stories, dark though they had a tendency to be. Remnant could be a harsh place, and the mythology had always reflected that. The stories all ended with warnings, careful lessons - still, it hadn't quelled Pyrrha's desire to use her gifts for the good of all, for protecting people from the harshness of the world.
Her lips quirk into a smile, and she nods amicably. "True. However, I believe the spirit of it to be...simple. Perhaps fixing things is not always the best path forward. Sometimes, it is all you can do to keep moving forward."
"Home is home. To be absent from it can bring sickness." She tilts her head in understanding, drawing a figure eight in the air with the sparkler, leaving trails of light in its wake. "It is, as my friends would say, 'pretty sweet'."
"I haven't been home in a very long time," The words are soft, the gentleness to them hinting at something far more aching. "I've been away at the academy. The journey home is...too arduous to endure, for the short months of break."
[ They meander in the direction of the volleyball nets, feet hitting warm sand. Other scavenger hunt partners are also combing the area, and Pyrrha turns her attention to the area, looking for clues. One of her friends would probably be far more adept at this than she, but she'll try her best! ]
Do you have many festivals, where you're from? [ She brushes her hair over her shoulder, glancing curiously at Tsuna. ] We were in the middle of one, back home. It's a tournament, the Vytal Festival. It's quite fun, though the games are televised, there.
[It only lasts for but a moment. Ryoji blinks - and with a sheepish grin, it's as if he's but a regular human once more.]
I do wish I got to finish school, but I got whisked in here before that. It hasn't been bad, though - there's a lot of things you can learn outside of a classroom.
[If anything, he's more confused by this stranger's sudden dramatics. Maybe he's someone who's into theatre?]
Oh, but what I said isn't something they taught in school! Hmm...I guess you could say it comes from a personal observation?
Yeah yeah, I got your point like five minutes ago. You're a badass demon with zero time for tears, unless it's them crying because of you.
[The demon world is dangerous and demons are ruthless, great to have that bias confirmed. Hurray for him. At least this is still better than that one alien that he tried to talk to?? That dude was a complete bore.
Fire demon guy is at least interesting, if exasperating. He pretty much acts like a demon?? At least he's not killing everyone here, so that's a plus in Scott's book.]
Wow, look at you, with a stable job and everything. [Scott blandly responds, but... guess the work he's doing doesn't sad like awful shit. Like probably best if humans didn't wander into the demon world.]
[Lucky for Marco, not so much for the human whose lap he is occupying.]
That hardly proves anything. Besides I merely suggested your behavior was unusual, not that you weren't a real rabbit. However, if that would make you feel better, by all means-
[He is now completely convinced that Marco is no rabbit, ordinary or otherwise. Please don't actually follow through on that threat, it will just be awkward, probably for both of them.]
Not. Quite. All living beings give off a sort of life energy, spirits also have their own unique Energy Signatures. A possession should be detectable by two entirely separate life energies present in one body. The locals here don't seem to have one at all, at least not one that I can detect. It's almost as if they're not alive at all.
Although, it's possible my ability to do so has been tampered with by our captors, why would that only extend to the locals and not fellow Chosen?
"I assisted in a game having to do with titans, and they didn't.... Play fair."
She shrugs, "It happens. So I left my position as an arbiter to what is the term...."
She ponders, eyes narrowing as she tilts her head, "Murder the Titan of Despair till it calms down and goes to sleep. Since it neither involves law or chaos, the demons and angels don't care, and since the only consequence of it not being done is the end of humanity, none of the greater powers really care."
"Honestly, I don't as such care about that part much either, but it would destroy the soul of someone important to me in doing so, and really, at the end of the day, is that not enough reason to repeatedly stab Erebus?"
From personal observation you've determined there is no true evil in the world?
Oh, to be young again. Why, when I was your age I was...
[Fandaniel tilts his head and purses his lips. What had he been doing as a teenager?
Something... uuh... giant robots. With teeth.
Screw it.
He flaps his hands through the air in a dismissive gesture.]
Never mind, that was so long ago who could ever possibly remember!
My point is you are far too young for such conviction. Give yourself a few years and once life has torn away all your youthful exuberance let me know then how you feel about the inner workings of mankind.
[ An offended gasp escapes Kitty's lips as she rests both her hands on her hips. Her brows furrow and she pouts, her gaze pointed at Scott. ]
Excuse me, Mister Scott Summers. Like, that's totally rude and I'm not gonna sit around and be called names. First, I don't know what the hell is going on and you're not exactly being helpful right now.
[ Glares, squints. ] If I'm from 2002, and you're from the 80's, how is that even possible? [ Come on, give her a good rundown. ]
[There's a half-second hesitation, a moment's pause - not that much of a hesitation, just a little, a breath inserted there - before Guinaifen answers.]
Sure it is! [It's said easily enough, at least, as Guinaifen stares at the bonfire and not at Minato. Don't read too much into things.]
I get to go to different places, try new things, and hang out with my friends. As jobs go, it's not the worst way of passing time, you know? I've learned how to breathe fire, swallow swords, dance with umbrellas and smash a boulder with a hammer. That's not stuff I'd learn if I did what my family wanted and learned...I don't know, accounting.
[Accounting.] Or something respectable like that. [Respectable.] And sure, it's not for everyone. My friend, Huohuo, gets a little scared whenever we turn on the camera. I haven't thought about what I'll do if it ever ends up not being my thing, but that doesn't seem like it's gonna happen anytime soon, so why worry about it?
[ Hiei snorts a laugh at that wise crack, amused at the thought. It’s been a long time since he’s dealt with anyone who is new to, or hasn’t experienced anything like the demon world.
Introducing Kuwabara had been interesting, if only because he had such a strong honor code that was undercut by just about everything about demons and their (lack of) ethics.
Hiei’s hand again dips in to the bonfire, this time coming away with a handful that sticks with him, ebbing and flowing as he tests the differences in his control, here. With the small flux of demon energy required, there may even be a small bit of creepy vibe eeking in to the picture. ]
I’m sure there are others with psychic abilities who’d like to try to impress one of the former kings. Or the current one.
With the amount of shit I have to hear about my unnatural eye, I would think there would be more challengers at my door. [ there aren’t because he can also control literal hell fire but of course Hiei doesn’t bring that up. ]
It’s a pain the ass, actually. I would rather be setting my bones surpassing Mukuro in her retirement.
Scott tries to stop himself from looking like a deer caught in headlights, but at least having his glasses cover his eyes helps with that! So, the mutant only freezes for a moment, before moving his arms to fold across his chest to look entirely serious.
...He's probably totally caught.]
Are you insulting my species' traditions?
[Is he going to give her strike three already?! ...Never mind the fact that Scott is definitely just messing with her. He just has to hold on just a little longer! Bluff his way because he's having fun-- at her expense, yes, but it's okay.]
[Her eyes widen a bit at that, and then her expression arranges itself into something akin to suitably impressed. Nobody in her friend group is quite that handy, sadly. If they were it would have saved them on a lot of walking.
Although, on the other hand, that description of toxic chemicals is really making her re-think wishing she could try it.]
It sounds kind of dangerous. What could happen if you made a mistake with those chemicals? Seems pretty risky to me.
[Now that they're both seated, the boat begins taking off with a small lurch. Tifa can't help twisting her head side to side to check out the view. With their surroundings growing progressively darker, there's not really much to see yet. But she likes the look of the water in the dark.]
I hope we're able to get to a good spot in the middle before the fireworks start.
[Oh-- oh wow, that's an old school tricorder. Tendi's poker face is shaky at best, for the most part, so some of the surprise she feels at the design comes through a little bit. But uh-- she'll have to process that temporal craziness later, because he's gone all business on her, so she instinctively straightens up a bit.]
Uh-- Junior lieutenant D'Vana Tendi. Sir. [Sir?? Probably sir. Pretty much everyone is higher rank than she is...unless he's an ensign, but uh. He seems a little old to be an ensign-- ANYWAY.]
I'm from the USS Cerritos, sir, under Captain Carol Freeman. It was in orbit around the planet Grottonus, but right now, I...have no idea where it is. Or maybe it has no idea where I am. Something like that.
[Tendi opens her mouth for a woah--! because that was pretty impressive, stretchy guy! But the more urgent matter at hand is that he doesn't like scientists?? Who doesn't like scientists?!
(This is, like, a catastrophe...for someone who desperately wants to be liked.)
Wait, woah, what the heck--] Huh? That...that's not science, that's awful! Who would do something like that?! [Ahem. She shifts gears.] Nope, no morally questionable candy or human experiments here! Just good old-fashioned studying moss and sequencing DNA for me. With a little bit of medical training and exploring new planets on the side.
I suppose but it is a little challenging when there isn't much we can do.
[All the while trying to shape the sandcastle into something else. Now that the foundation was frozen at the bottom, she had to figure out what to do next.]
[Well, we've already thrown out both the Prime Directive and any temporal edicts or rules that might have applied to this situation, so why not go all-in and chat with civilians about Starfleet missions and directives while we're at it!]
I was studying it! In a cave! I mean, the planet was called Grottonus, so there were like, a lot of caves, but still.
[She really has no idea whether it's sentient or not, at this point -- is it like when you clip a toenail and that's no longer part of you, so it's fair game? Or did she just make a Little Baby Talking Moss when it let her scoop up some of its...moss? These are the questions that science is here to answer. Either way, she holds out the little vial.]
Here you go. But be careful. The source creature was both carnivorous and chatty.
A companion that is that tall, dark blue with some light gray fur, and a pipe...?
[Huh, she never really heard or seen a creature quite like that before. It was one thing to have strange colored fur but it was another to have a pipe in its mouth. For a moment, she placed her hand on her chin as she wondered to herself...]
No, I'm afraid I haven't seen something like that. Although, I have to admit, I don't think I ever seen a creature like what you're describing....
[It doesn't take much skill to make an accurate assessment on this guy--
The sigh that Scott makes feels like it came directly from his soul, but he's still sticking around anyway. He's probably a giant freak for continuing on with this conversation instead of bouncing. ...Or maybe he just wants to see if he really is gonna be okay with the picture in the end.
He's already got involved in this mess, might as well see it out or whatever.]
So, you're saying that you really don't mind what the end result is? [He asks with a slightly less bratty tone, although there's that doubt in his voice still.]
The town center would be the best place to start, but I also think we should search for someone who's been here longer than the two of us. Not a local, but another "chosen", as they seem to call us.
[Surely, not everyone in here is new, right?]
whoops late-ish tag i'm probably not apping i just enjoy this thread |':
[ she almost trips on... wait, she's on the water. there's nothing to trip on! don't look at her. ] Wha--
Whatever could give you that idea? [ all right, maybe she was trying to show off a little, show some kind of capability than simply be the 'girl who screamed at a fish and also tried to drown this man'. anyway. ] I have a Hydro vision... ah, it gives me some amount of power over water. I just thought it could help this could get us back to shore more easily.
[ though, the water-walking is pretty unique. anyway, time to have the little water critters help ferry obikawa back to land!! ]
And you'll have to specify what natto is. We've likely come from different worlds after all. [ ... ] But it's true, I didn't quite want for much, when it came to material things.
