dear fellow traveler under the moon
Who: Minato & You!
Where: All around Aldrip
What: Catch-all for the month with open prompts, maybe some closed starters too
Warnings: Injury, suicidal ideation, asphyxiation, updated as needed.
i. ball is life
[ City Hall's gardens have quickly become a spot that Minato frequented. He's often here in the early evenings, accompanied by Koromaru. It's an ideal place for the dog to stretch his legs. Aldrip doesn't appear to have any leash laws. Ergo, Koromaru roams free as Minato sits by himself on a bench.
The shiba inu trots about with a red ball in his mouth, tail held high with a pleased look on his face. He circles back to Minato who's seated on his usual bench today. Typically, Minato observes as Koromaru entertains himself, racing around the greenspace or flinging whatever toy he's brought with him that day.
Today though, Koromaru stands in front of Minato and presents the ball to him, tail wagging enthusiastically.
You WILL throw ball, Minato Arisato. Ball is LIFE. ]
ii. gardening
[ Visiting the farmhouse is a recent addition to Minato's daily routine. He greets the animals there even though he's technically not at the farmhouse to see them. He can't help but offer a friendly headpat or snoutpat to the ones that are bold enough to approach.
There's an empty field of soil just outside the farmhouse. Kotone's offered it to him, leaving Minato free to use it for his new project. He's there today wearing comfortable work clothes, kneeling in the dirt with a hand hoe to carefully loosen the soil.
It began with an off-the-cuff response, an answer to a question that's always been difficult for Minato to grapple with.
"Is there anything you've always wanted to try, but never have?" Kotone had asked as they walked side by side through City Center, a bag of peanuts in his hand that she'd pressed into his palm.
And even before that, there'd been Sha-Ming with earnest anger flaring in his eyes as he declared that all creatures should have dreams, desires, and things they wanted to do while clinging stubbornly to life.
He's not used to contemplating all the things he'd like to try, things he never got the opportunity to do. He's here now though, thanks to the response he'd given to Kotone's question. Minato decides this answer is satisfactory as he continues loosening the soil to prepare it for some seedlings.
There's some soil streaked on a cheek, and his elbows have some dirt on them too. He's content though, quietly working on his task. ]
iii. i am thou, thou art i
[ The mild breeze leaves delicate ripples along the oceanwater's surface. The shore's salty air fills Minato's lungs, clearing his mind and easing any troublesome thoughts that plague him as of late.
It's why he finds himself at the beach again today, shoes removed and socks tucked neatly in them. The sand is warm and silky under his feet, offering him something to focus on other than how, lately, his mind continuously strays to a ruined moonlit bridge.
Something brushes against his foot and disturbs his train of thought. It shifts his gaze from the horizon to the floor. There's a crab scuttling across his feet; it pauses in between them, freezing when it senses someone's attention focused on it. Then it's moving again, faster, making a beeline towards the water.
He takes a step forward to follow the trail left by the little crab. He doesn't get very far, interrupted by a sudden, agonizing pain in his head. He folds over with a gasp, pressing a hand against his forehead. He does not see the towering shadow taking shape from behind, unaware of its presence until a white-gloved hand grips his shoulder.
The creature shoves him down. He collapses like a marionette cut from its strings. And as he looks up to identify his assailant, he swiftly realizes there is nothing to truly fear. He immediately recognizes that metal mask. It's why he doesn't struggle against the hand holding him down, merely gazing back at the familiar Persona: Thanatos.
The Persona unsheathes its sword and releases an earsplitting wail, driving the weapon's sharpened tip through Minato's shoulder. But Minato makes no noise, even as it cuts through flesh and blood pools beneath him. There's no need to be afraid. After all, Thanatos must be here simply to remind him that, out of everything in the world, Death is the sole certainty. ]

You are already doing great tending the patch. I would recommend some fertilizer, I can share the one that I made a while back from some compost.
[ She can tell that Minato at least did some sort of research beforehand, but she’s glad that he’s allowing her to fill in any of the gaps. ]
How have you been?
no subject
Thanks, Haru. I'd like that.
[ Maybe he should ask for some tips on making his own fertilizer sometime...
He looks back at the soil he's tilled so far. There aren't any seedlings yet. Today will be spent solely on preparing the patch. ]
I'm okay.
[ He reaches out to place a couple of his fingertips into the dirt, gauging the depth of the overturned soil. Casually, he adds: ]
Jerry came to see me a few days ago.
no subject
[She decides she might as well help him out with the tilling and mixing in fertilizer part. Planting your first seedlings is absolutely something that will be on Minato. Since he would need to decide how far apart he wants them! ]
Mm, I received a visit from him last month. What happened when you were called?
no subject
Okay. Then I'll know how much fertilizer to use in the future.
[ Preparing the soil, adding fertilizer, planting the seedlings then making sure they're watered and kept safe from both wildlife and nature's elements -- there sure is a lot involved when it comes to gardening. It's kind of nice. It means it will keep Minato plenty busy.
Minato sets to loosening the soil with his hand hoe again while he speaks. ]
I don't... really remember. I know I met Jerry at City Hall, but I don't remember what happened there.
[ It's like there's a yawning chasm in his memory between the time he stepped into City Hall and the moment he left the building. ]
...the crime on my parchment changed too.
no subject
She stops momentarily.]
I recall the same. It was like a dream, and then it was over. But a dream I can’t seem to recall no matter how hard I try.
But you said the crime changed? That didn’t happen to me.
[CONCERN. ]
no subject
Minato glances up at Haru, pausing momentarily in his work. If Haru's crime never changed, then perhaps it means she was sentenced for the crime already on her parchment? ]
...yes, it's probably because the crime I was sentenced for was different from the one originally on my parchment.
[ Now that he's thinking about it, Minato thinks he recalls someone once mentioning the crimes listed on the parchment could change. Had it been Scott? Yu? He can't recall.
Oh well. He'll return to his work, going back to working with the soil. No need to tell Haru he committed murder just yet -- ]
no subject
Though, she was tasked with turning others in. She did not complete her sentencing task.
Haru ain’t a snitch!!]I see, I won’t ask you to tell me what happened with that. I imagine it wasn’t pleasant.
Did you receive a task to complete? Is it something I could help with?
no subject
No use dwelling on that anymore. In any event, Gogol's back in one piece again. All's well that ends well. ]
Yeah. ...I think it was working with Shinjiro, Rolo, and Akechi in explaining to other Chosen why murder is unforgivable.
[ A pause. Ah, the key was "work with those who assisted you." If that's the case, explaining it to Haru alone probably won't do the trick. ]
Maybe we'll be putting out a message on the network. If you see it, responding to our explanation might show the Council at least one Chosen read what we wrote...
no subject
[But like, honestly, she wishes Minato luck in working with Akechi in that way. Maybe Haru is still a little angry at him for a certain situation they had in their own world.
She leaves for only a moment to retrieve her fertilizer. ]
I can’t imagine that you wanted whatever happened to happen.
[She barely knows what happened in the after, to Akira. Since they talked before he fucked off for a while. ]
no subject
Minato glances down at the bucket of fertilizer, pointedly not making eye contact with Haru. ]
...it happened pretty fast. Maybe others would call it an accident, but... people should accept the consequences of their own actions, shouldn't they?
[ And yeah, maybe the victim did deserve it a little bit, but Minato wouldn't wish death upon anyone. ]
no subject
Well, that’s a hard question. Isn’t it? Should he accept the consequences of an action that may have been an accident or self defense? ]
I can only say from experience, that I had to ask myself was it truly my fault.
Seeing as my crime is, “accomplice to murder”. But truly, it was never my fault what happened.
[She takes some of the fertilizer. ]
Okay, so you’ll want to take a good handful and start mixing it into your tilled soiled. Like this, okay?
no subject
...I see. Maybe that's a question I should be asking myself too.
[ Minato takes another handful of fertilizer, turning the tilled soil over to mix it in. ]
I guess... I didn't expect what happened.
[ He glances up from his work to look at Haru. ]
It's good that you know whatever happened wasn't your fault. Some people can't make that distinction.
[ And when they're unable to do so, it will devour them from the inside. ]
no subject
I can’t say that I find you to be a bad person, so whatever it was, I think Jerry and his council must be overreacting.
[ She doesn’t know much more of the Gogol situation than pretty much anyone who wasn’t closely involved. But she’d probably say fuck that guy anyways.]
I lost the ability to differentiate blame for a while in my own situation, embarrassing enough I had to ask Akira-kun to help me remember. This place can mess with your mind.
no subject
It's not embarrassing. I think Akira was probably happy that you asked for help.
[ Minato knows that much. He knows how much Akira treasures his friends, and he'd want them to confide in him if something was wrong. ]
