Do you think I haven't already faced that? I'm young. There are plenty of fools who mistake that for naïveté or vulnerability and think they can take advantage for an easy victory. I've handled all threats smoothly enough.
no subject
But you did not answer my question.
no subject
I'll never go down without a fight. But fighting doesn't have to be quite so literal. I know where my strengths lie and I play to them.
[With a soft huff of breath, he gives Richard a sideways glance.]
But I take it you live on the battlefield.
[He doesn't sound terribly impressed, but not necessarily disdainful either. It's more...dry observation? He hasn't yet decided whether it's boring or worth being excited about.]
no subject
[There was no place that is free of fighting. The court of the nobles were just as deadly and dangerous as the bloodied war zones. The only thing that truly differentiated was the manner the fighting was carried over. Instead of swords, axes and arrows the battles were won with hushed whispers, secret meetings and scheming behind the closed doors.
Richard returns the dry, unimpressed look at him. The brow above his good eye slightly curling up.]
Aye. Not all of us were blessed enough to be born on peaceful era.
no subject
I'd hardly call my era peaceful.
[And he doesn't appreciate the backhanded nature of that comment, effectively implying he could only succeed without fighting because his world was already peaceful.]
But I suppose I can't blame you for knowing nothing but war. Not everyone can be blessed with the wisdom to end that fighting either.
no subject
Then, I hope that one day your majesty will be able to impart your divine wisdom to a lowly duke, such as myself.
[The sheep lets out a quiet, idle 'baa', reminding the duo of her existence.] How have you found your bearings around this world?
no subject
I can't really say I have. I suppose the benefit of all that fighting is that you can more easily make use of that experience here. I'm not sure there's much use for my skillset here.
no subject
[So, hah. One more point to Richard?] But if you are in need of income I allow you to be my squire.
no subject
My, you can even afford to pay someone a living wage? You really are doing well for yourself here.
[He says it airily, somewhere between polite observation and teasing. It saves him from having to accept or reject an offer that might only have been made in jest – one he wouldn't really want to accept anyway, but he does know he's not really in a position to be picky here...]
no subject
But of course, your Grace. And it would be an honor to see your form improve while also earn a chance to learn from your divine wisdom.
no subject
"Divine wisdom" does give him a private little spark of amusement, though. Saralegui huffs a breath of almost laughter and shakes his head.]
Weren't you the one offering your wisdom as a potential counselor? We've gotten ourselves turned around somehow.
no subject
Richard's expression matches Sara's as he glances at his way, before turning around the corner at the docks. They're getting closer to the merchant where he was looking for.]
I would be honored if your grace would find use for my wisdom. But, ah, as we have stated here. I am nothing but a brute, knowing nothing but bloodshed and fighting.
i didn't get a notif for this ; ;
There's nothing wrong with knowing your strengths.
homophobia at play here, i see
[Haha, as if. Anyway, Richard spots the merchant he was looking for and guides the sheep towards the man. It seems like the sheep could tell that its' end was nearing, as it tried to pull back on the leash. But Richard's not having a moment of it and tugs the leash more harshly, forcing the poor thing to follow thing to follow him.
The exchange doesn't take too long from them. In less than ten minutes the sheep has already changed the ownership and Richard finds his coin purse nice and heavy.]
no subject
But he keeps a straight face, stepping back a bit to allow Richard his space to make the sale of the bizarre not-sheep. He does find himself mildly...impressed? No, he's not impressed by the simple act of selling a fucking sheep. But he is begrudgingly envious that the person who seems to come from the most similar situation to his own can adapt so easily. He always thought of himself as adaptable, but so far out of his element, he's discovering that his range is more limited than he'd realized.
Saralegui is pensively quiet throughout the sale, eyes narrowed, but his chin remains held high, and only when Richard turns away from the merchant does he speak again.]
...Perhaps I will. I've been hoping to speak to this "Council" anyway.
no subject
However, Richard could still appreciate the younger man. Because it did seem that he was the only person that he could somewhat relate to in this strange world. Despite how it might look like to Saralegui he, too, was struggling a quite bit in Aldrip. There was still so many unknown things to him, and just when he thought he managed to understand one aspect of the culture there was another shock waiting for him, making him feel out of the place. He had managed to find a way to get by, yes. But it was unfulfilling, leaving his soul cold and unmoving under the frustration. It wasn't living, not really.]
I have heard things about of them from an acquaintance. If he is to believed it seems like that getting an audience with them is near impossible, unless you manage to gain their attention first.
no subject
Well, I've been told I'm good at grabbing attention. Perhaps I'll have more luck than others? From what I've seen of the people here, I don't imagine most have gone about it with the most delicate approach...
[ listen he's heard some shit about bombings and whatnot and already thinks most of the chosen are stupid and/or lunatics ]
no subject
Are you not going to repent?
no subject
I haven't done anything to repent for. Do you really believe all that? I've heard people say they were charged with crimes they've never done, or things that aren't even actually crimes.
[Not that he's so naive as to believe no one would lie about not having done what they were charged with. Hell, he knows he himself isn't exactly being truthful here. But even if some things he's done have been morally questionable, he doesn't regret them a bit, and it'd clash with his intended image anyway if he were to just admit to having done shady shit.]
no subject
[It's simple as that. Richard, after all, was definitely guilty of the crime he was accused of. No questions there. But similarly to Saralegui, he simply refuses to bend down and apologize. Let them try and punish him all they want. Because in the end there was no power high enough to be able to judge him for the crime. Not this council or the God. Not as long as the noble blood of York run through his veins.]
Or are you claiming to be so holy that no darkness has ever touched your soul?
no subject
I'm certainly not perfect. But if the ordinary sins every person commits in their lifetime are enough to land them here, then shouldn't every person from every world be here? I don't think I've done anything so egregious to warrant all this.
no subject
Yeah no. Richard doesn't believe that. Saralegui is a king, after all. And that comes with its own crimes and burdens, something that an 'ordinary man' is untouched by. The young king may have rejected the idea of fighting, but still admitted to a bloodshed. All natural and expected part of the crown.]
Maybe it's a plot against your kingdom, then? [He sneers.]
no subject
It'd be quite the plot if that were true. If someone had that much power, then you'd think they'd handle things more directly than otherworldly kidnapping and then all this fuss over repenting for sins.
