What: Akira and Goro have decided to do some people-watching to determine the identity of Gogol's farce to fake his death.
Warnings: There's a closed prompt that's gonna result in half a centimeter from death, but otherwise the only real warnings are that Goro and Gogol are involved in this log. ...probably a lot of innuendo and stupid teenager bullshittery, also.

[Picture this; it's a normal Wednesday in Aldrip, the weather is reasonable, you're going about your daily life. There's been some craziness lately, hasn't there? Some clown stole some organs, some people got messed up getting those organs back, and then some more people got messed up killing the clown. Yikes!]

[What you may not realize, is during the Killing of the Clown™️, some more things were stolen. Goro took it upon himself to steal Gogol's cloak and tablet, and... Well. As it turned out, Gogol's death was merely temporary, try as he might to convince others he was gone for good. He'd like his things back, but he's currently under the guise of an unassuming Salaryman...,]

[Cut back to this perfectly pleasant, normal Wednesday! Goro Akechi has opted to attempt to sniff out Gogol's trickery, once and for all. With the help of his partner (in crime and everything else), they have stationed themselves in separate areas of the city, connected by a seemlingly innocuous phone call, enjoying the weather and doing some good old-fashioned detective work by way of people watching. What could possibly go wrong?]

[Scott almost drops said flowers when Akira calls him out. The mutant visibly jolts, his free hand moving to his chest as he turns sharply to face the shit eating Akira. Dude, how long has he been sitting over there?! Just hiding away like some spy or whatever.

It has nothing to do with the fact that Scott's mind was totally focused on Kotone and wasn't paying attention to his surroundings that much. Of course not.]

Holy fuck dude!

[As he slowly recovers, Scott lets out a small huff. Let's pretend that none of that happened, okay? Okay.] What are you doing just sitting there??

[Not answering Akira just yet.]

[Akira is so charmed by Scott's absolute obliviousness he cracks up laughing. It's hardly a mean-spirited sound, as so little he does is, and short-lived, but for a moment he folds forward at the waist with his papers on his knees and laughs for a little while.]

C'mere, I'll tell you, but you gotta tell me about the date.

[YEAH YEAH laugh it up fuzzball--

Akira's lucky that Scott likes him!! Okay, and he's just in a good mood, so after a small roll of his eyes, he does as he's told and moves to plop down next to Akira. The flowers should last and everything, so he's fine taking some time to catch up with the other teen. Plus, it's... nice to see him like this, in a far better mood compared to the last time they met.

Scott's glad. He's happy that his friend is doing better after that whole mess.]

There's no real date, I just wanted to get Kotone flowers. [Not that he wouldn't be opposed to going out with her, but it's not uncommon for him to just get flowers for her. Like once a month or something. Scott fiddles with the wrapping just a little, before his somewhat exasperated smile turns more genuine.] She likes them, you know?

[Listen he's approaching mullet territory, he knows, it's fine. He's grinning crookedly by the time Scott actually drops into a sit beside him, and-- yeah, he's glad he's doing better, too. That night at the diner... Sucked.]

[But it's fine now! Or better, at least.]

[His smile softens and he knocks his weight sideways to bonk their shoulders together.] That's good, then. Spoil her, yeah?

[He lightly nudges Akira in return, his smile still in place and just as bright as ever whenever Kotone is brought up. Unless she's doing something stupid--]

That's the plan.

[Because he loves her. Because their time is limited here. Because she deserves it. He really wants to make her as happy as possible here, while she's with him. That's what a boyfriend should do anyway. He's sure Akira feels the same about Akechi, even if the latter is sometimes a bit crazy.

Akira... sometimes he wonders, but long as they're both happy it's cool.]

So, gonna tell me your thing? Why are you trying to emulate James Bond?

[Gross. Scott you're gross. He's so fond of you for being absolutely disgusting about Kotone.]

[He barks a sharp burst of laughter at the question, wrinkling his nose and handing Scott one of his folders.] Recipes! To cover that I'm people-watching.

[He takes the offered folder with a slightly raised eyebrow, but he doesn't really look at it, just sending Akira a questioning look because uh, why is he people-watching?? That feels so random and out of the blue? Not like Akira's new to this place and he's never seen the teen do this before.

Okay, he has to prod more. No use just sitting here and sending his friend weird looks.]

Dude, what? [He starts with a small laugh.] Why are you people watching? Like now of all times?

[He holds his other folder toward his lap and angles his head sidelong toward Scott, like he's comparing the recipes in each folder. His voice lowers and he moves his mouth in a practiced way to evade lip-reading. Just in case.]

Goro's convinced Gogol faked his death. We're trying to sniff him out.

[And just like that, Scott's more upbeat attitude plummets. So much for putting up a front that everything is normal, because the mutant just looks a little more worried. Upset. Well, he figured that Gogol was going to come back anyway, because he's a Chosen like them, but... it's still not great getting a reminder of the clown right now.

He glances briefly at the flowers in his hand still, suddenly remembering how Kotone just ran straight into danger. How she values her life less than everyone else's, even though he loves her so much. His grip tightens around the flowers for a moment, that deep hurt stinging in his chest, before he focuses back on Akira.

Sometimes he is glad that his shades will always cover his eyes.]

Do you think he's going to do something again?

[Hurt Dara again??]

[See why Akira wears his planos, Scott? You two should bond over that sometime, even if he doesn't wear his because he would murder people with his laser eyes if he didn't, and doesn't really wear them much at all, these days.]

[He hums, shrugging one shoulder and leaning the same shoulder easily against Scott's. Clown talk sucks, buddy, he's sorry he had to bring it up.] Seems like that's inevitable, we're just trying to preempt it.

[Can they just toss Gogol in gay baby jail somewhere--

Scott nods a little to Akira's assertion, finding it hard to really argue against it. Yeah, probably best to make sure that he doesn't do anything else. Maybe keep an additional eye on Dara? Focusing on this, it's at least better than remembering how upset he was at Kotone. Maybe if they do stuff like this, it'll lessen the chance of her having the opportunity to sacrifice herself in the first place.]

Wait, don't we know what Gogol looks like? Did he go undercover himself?

Goro's pretty sure that's the case, at least. I don't know, but it'd be smart of him, given he's pretty obvious in his normal state. [To keep with the easygoing conversational visual they have going in case they're being monitored, Akira slips a pack of gum out of his pocket and offers Scott a piece, then getting one himself.]

[He takes the offered gum, mostly because he wants to chew on something rather than actually think that it's helping with the whole 'casual' visual. Sometimes you just wants to chew on some gum while thinking about evil clowns. Yeah, something like that.]

I'm assuming you've already checked where he lives, if you know where that is anyway. [Chew chew--] What do you plan on doing if you catch him?

No idea where he lives, honestly. I'm pretty much just along for the ride, here.

[And entirely too laid back.]

[Well, great. Maybe Akechi would know?? Detective and all that crap. Or Dara. Guess they could ask around.]

...How are you two doing?

[Scott figures he doesn't have to fully explain what he means by that. Last time he talked to Akira was when Akechi and the others were in the hospital and Akira feeling really bad about all of it. He's sure the two of them talked by now, so... checking in and all that. And yeah, he's mentioned they are working together on this Gogol stuff, but there's a difference between being working together and actually being okay.]

[Akira smiles, but it's a little worn around the edges.]

...better. Not great, but better. I appreciate you asking. You and Kotone are-- [He gestures to the roses.] --still gross, I see.

[No, that's not going to work this time. Even though he doesn't know that Akira is a Wildcard yet, Scott ain't falling for the topic change. It's a lot of self-restraint on his end too! Because normally he'd take any chance to talk about Kotone, but focusing on the other teen and his relationship with Akechi seems more important.

Scott sharply elbows Akira in the end, because he doesn't want to ruin his flowers by smacking him over the head with them. They were expensive for one thing--]

Come on man, I'm not letting you off that easily. [He grows a little more serious.] I'm assuming you told him how you felt about everything?

[He doesn't quite expect this from Scott, which-- is silly, he's dating Kotone, he's definitely got fire in his personality. He oofs softly at the elbow and makes a face at him for a second, but then grumbles faintly when he's effectively called the fuck out.]

[He rubs at the spot Scott's elbow bonked him.] It's a multi-step process, but I started it.

[Maybe he wouldn't be so pushy talking about feelings if he wasn't with Kotone. They promised to tell each other everything, even if it was stupid, and it's worked really well so far. Definitely better than the time he tried to keep his feelings in and got really angry at her. Scott really doesn't want anyone to repeat the same dumb mistakes he did.

Even if Akira is making faces at him and grumbling. He can handle that!! Suck it up--]

Uh-huh, okay, what the hell does that mean? [He's so unimpressed.] Don't tell me you just went 'I'm glad you're not dead' at him.

[Akira gives him a slightly longer frown, and then glowers at his own feet.] Listen, Scott-- I appreciate that you're looking out for me. But things with Goro have to happen a certain way or they don't happen at all.

[A part of him is a little surprised from both hearing and seeing the slight irritation on Akira's face. Maybe he was a little blunt and he almost feels bad, but he doesn't want to back down from his point either. If he gets on his friend's nerves, he'll just accept that.]

Saying that you can't be honest with him? I thought that's what Akechi would want.

[He shakes his head.]

It's not that I'm not being honest, it's that I'm making sure he's okay to hear my honesty. A lot of times he isn't. And-- I know, that's anybody, that's not good, I need to say it anyway. But it's really important that I keep that in mind for him. Nobody else ever does.

[Scott isn't sure if he fully gets it and a part of him almost wants to poke and twist one of the flowers in his bouquet, but he holds back. Mostly because he doesn't want to ruin his gift for his girlfriend. Instead, he settles for a small sigh, one hand lifting up below his chin.]

Didn't know he was that sensitive.

[Since big asshole. Also a murderer?? A part of him still frowns at the thought, but... it seems like Akechi is trying to be better about that. That's what Dazai said is most important. Allow people to be better.] But guess if there's anyone that Akechi respects, it's you.

He's a lot of things that most people don't realize. He doesn't want people to realize.

[A hum, and he scuffs a shoe against the ground.] I know he's difficult. I'm working on it.

[Scott isn't the best at these sort of things, at least, he doesn't think he is. Feelings and crap is always hard, even when him and Kotone share so much with each other. Throw in someone like Akechi and just... it's even more complicated.]

...Akechi is trying, right? To be less shitty. [Errr difficult, as Akira said, but.] He's only doing so because of you. So, just keep working.
