[ nodding decisively, luffy turns his eyes towards the bushes and the hole... and then he pulls his arm back, as if preparing for a punch. ]
Here goes —
[ and he flings his arm forward, except his arm just, you know, keeps stretching. and stretching. until his hand disappears into the bushes, and his brows furrow as he tries to find the cat — ]
Ow! [ his yelp coincides with a displeased meowwrr that sounds from the bushes. luffy's arm snaps back, this time with three visible scratches where the cat very clearly made its displeasure known. ]
[Yu Narukami is not a person who is unaccustomed to weird shit. He's spent the last year literally jumping into TVs, he's watched a bear grow a body inside a mascot suit, he survived the Steamy Bathhouse.
But none of it quite prepares him to watch someone stretch their arm--
and keep stretching it--
and keep stretching it--
--He only blinks once said arm snaps back, almost like a rubber band, and that's when he realizes his mouth is sort of half-open in surprise, promptly shutting it.]
[ luffy, scratches forgotten like they might as well not exist, grins brightly and grabs his own cheek, stretching it to the side before letting it snap back to place. ]
I ate a devil fruit! I'm made of rubber, now. [ obviously. ]
Made of rubber, [he repeats incredulously, but he's not sure why he's feeling that way because Luffy literally just stretched his face out like a rubber band. Also he has a dozen brain demons but this is weird? Really??
[ the signature sound of his laughter, a bright shishishi, rings out around them, bouncing from the walls of the buildings that surround them like it's made of rubber, too. ]
Nope!
[ then, something flashes in his eyes and he turns to the bushes, and yells, ] Hey, cat! Don't try to sneak out!!
[ is the cat visible? not at all. but luffy's observation haki is top-notch, and inside the bush, the kitty is slowly trying to make its escape... ]
[This is fascinating. It's totally fascinating, and Luffy acts like it's just normal, like it's no big deal for a person to be-- what was it, "made of rubber"? He has so many questions he doesn't even know where to start, because he's a giant nerd who just wants to learn more, but--
Oh, right. The cat.
Yu looks around, but-- he can't see it yet. Still...it must be nearby, right?]
Can you see it? [He keeps his voice low, just in case, to keep from startling it. Then he rummages in a pocket, pulling out a handful of cat treats. Yes, he just has them on hand. No, don't ask.]
[ hey, in his defense, devil fruit powers are actually more or less normal — not common, but normal!
yu's question distracts him, though, and he nods; he can't see it in the traditional sense, but it's close enough! ]
Oh, you've got cat treats? [ he lets out a laugh, sharp and amused as he takes the offered treats. ] You're a weird guy!
[ but he does as told, for once: his hand stretches out again, dropping the first of the treats closer to the cat and then making a trail out of the bushes. see! he knows how to do this!! ]
[It's kind of entertaining to hear "you're a weird guy" from someone who is literally stretching his arm like a rubber band...and he exhales a small laugh in response. At the same time, Luffy you have no idea.]
Guess I am, a bit.
[Luffy gets the idea pretty well, though, so while he's lining up the bait, Yu quietly positions himself in a way where he can grab the cat if it decides to take them. At the same time, he's not going to forget those scratches Luffy doesn't even seem to blink twice at...so he quietly brings Rangda to the front of his mind. She may be an evil demon, but that null physical skill has come in handy before.
Predictably, it's not long before said cat sneaks carefully and quietly out of the bushes. Yu gives it a second to take one or two of the treats, and as soon as it settles in for another, he scoops it up from behind.]
[ luffy's loud cheering makes the cat yowl as if offended, but at least it doesn't try to leap out of yu's arms — if anything, it seems to still completely, so that the weird creature making loud noises doesn't notice it.
it doesn't have to worry, since luffy's attention is fully on yu. ]
You did it! You caught it! That was pretty great. [ his grin is wide and his words genuine; it might be a small thing, in retrospect, but luffy seems to think it's deserving of all the praise. ]
