[ She opens the package, examining the inside carefully. ]

Oh, I see.

[ She goes back to the kettle and looks inside, decides there's enough water, and sets it on a lit burner on the stove. ]

I'm quite excited! Do you eat this often?

I don't have the instant stuff very often. There's this ramen stall my sensei likes to go to after missions, though. So I guess you could say I have it...regularly.

[ Sandry beams at him. ]

That sounds like a lovely tradition. Could you tell me about your sensei?

Minato-sensei? Well, he's a genius. And a powerful shinobi, obviously. He might even be the most powerful in the village.

[honestly that's probably not the kind of thing sandry was hoping for in a description but of course that's kakashi's priorities on show.]

[ Good enough! ]

He sounds incredible! How often do you go on missions together? Do you have any fellow students?

All the time. With the war and all, we're on missions weekly or even more than that.

[he sniffs, as though he's going to argue whether he's a "student" or not, but ultimately he decides to let it go. he is an apprentice, after all.]

I have two teammates. They're not as highly ranked as me but we work together well enough.

[ Sandry smiles. ]

I'm glad you have teammates. It's important to have companions! I learned with three other mages and we grew to be siblings.

We're definitely not that close. But that's good for you, I guess.

[kakashi wouldn't know friendship if it hit him in the nose, much less a sibling connection, so take his attitude with a grain of salt.]

[ Kakashi noooo what about their friendship!!! No... it's okay... Sandry believes for the both of them. ]

I bet you're closer than you think! I've found these things tend to sneak up when you don't realize.

[thinking about obito and rin too much is painful, so kakashi artfully avoids emotion by refusing to think about it.]

So, is the water ready yet?

[smooth. so smooth.]

[ The water is, in fact, ready. You're saved, Kakashi.

Sandry goes and fetches the kettle and returns to the table with a trivet to rest it on. ]

So we just pour it into the bowl...? Can you show me?

We need something to cover the bowl, too. To keep the steam inside.

[a small dish would do.]

[ Thankfully Sandry has those. And forks and spoons. Sorry she's too white for chopsticks, that can be a lesson for another day.

She places all the required items on the table in front of him. ]

And I got us utensils as well!

[ She's clearly very excited for this. ]

[imagine eating ramen with a fork....oh well. kakashi takes the kettle and carefully pours the boiling water into the bowl, then covers the bowl with a plate.]

Now we wait three minutes.

[the longest three minutes in the world, according to certain characters who have yet to be born in kakashi's world.]

[ TBH kinda, right...? Sandry sets her kitchen timer for three minutes and stares impatiently at the covered bowls while it counts down. ]

Oh, I can't wait to try! We had cookies, but I'm hungry... I suppose three minutes isn't too much of a price to pay.

Patience is a virtue, you know.

[not kakashi actually teasing. who knew.]

[ Sandry gives a little pout and sits back in her chair, kicking her feet lightly. It's not a very ladylike thing to do, but she doesn't feel like Kakashi is going to judge her for it. She can just... be Sandry.

When the timer goes off she stops it and sits up excitedly. ]

And? Now what?

Now, we eat.

[he removes the plates, revealing fragrant steamed noodles.]

Careful, it's hot.

[ Sandry claps excitedly and pulls her bowl close. It is hot, and she's forgotten something important. She gets up briefly before returning with cloth napkins, placing one before Kakashi, and then settling back down into her chair. ]

Oooh, I can't wait!

[ She is at least smart enough to take a spoonful of soup and blow on it to cool it down before drinking it. Her face lights up. ]

Oh! It's so good! I love it! It's quite salty but I love the flavors! I'll try some noodles next.

[ She twirls some noodles on her fork and blows on them a bit before trying them as well. Sandry does have good enough manners not to talk with her mouth full. ]

I like the noodles! They're not too soft and not too chewy. What do you think?

[kakashi watches with interest as she twirls the noodles. that's a trick he hasn't seen before.

he tugs his mask down and takes a forkful of noodles himself, blowing on it briefly before chowing down.]

Pretty much just like home. Not bad.

[ Sandry has had the brilliant idea to put some noodles with the broth in her spoon. It's, well, the spoon wasn't really designed to hold that much at once so she's mostly failing, but it's a valiant effort. In the end she decides just to have the broth and noodles separately. ]

You'll have to tell me if there's other foods from your home that are here now! Or if you know how to make any of it. I'd love to try more.

It wouldn't be too hard to make onigiri, I guess...

[although now that he thinks about it,]

Now that the village is bigger there might be more restaurants and food stalls, too. We could go looking one day if you want.

[so generous!!]

[ Sandry grins. There's no doubt in her mind that they're friends when he invites her out for a meal. ]

I would love to go look and try food with you!
