[She slaps his hand away and that's honestly the wildest part. Toph had always been stubborn and independent, but-- well. Blind. But then she's mentioning the items and memories, and everything lining up with what he'd run into. What Scott had confirmed. The general unsettling unsurity that was encapsulating Aldrip.
Also she says she can see through her feet, which is another thing to unpack altogether, but-- one at a time.]
Your fe-? Okay, wait, back up.
[He's not gonna disagree with anything, but he is going to drop his things on the chicken-shit-free ground, if only because it looks like he is getting absolutely nothing done today in regards to chocobos.]
You've been getting those weird... vision-things too? And then whatever it is just disappears, right?
[A pause, and then a genuine query for her opinion:]
[ It's a lot all at once, and Toph doesn't want to admit it but truthfully she's fairly overwhelmed. It was a radical change for her almost overnight -- a week or two is not enough time to go from being a frustrated lonely blind runaway to knowing she should be a powerhouse that knows how to command, and demand, respect from everyone around her.
That's so clearly who she's meant to be. It's both taking too long to get there and happening too quickly. ]
They have to be! You think I could do this a week ago?
[ Toph stomps her foot angrily on the ground in exasperation, and a ripple shudders visibly through the earth, disrupting the grass in a small wave like a mini, localized earthquake. That much she can do on command, not that it's very useful. ]
It has to be memories and not just crazy dreams or whatever. I can do a lot more than this in them. [ And she wants so badly for it to be true, it's verging on a desperate need. ]
[As insane as it sounds, it's hard to argue with the suddenly-sighted blind girl causing small, rumbling earthquakes with her stomps. He can't argue with the reality directly in front of him, and it suddenly makes his bitching about there not being birds anymore seem like a much, much smaller issue.]
...What the hell?
[An intelligent response, to be sure. But really, what else is he supposed to say? Because if all that is real, then-- what does that mean for everything else they felt they knew instead? Why did it take this long of Toph being blind and non-earthquake-causing? After all he's known her for....
Well. The details are fuzzy. But. A while? Give him a second, he brings up his hands to scrub at his face to try and... sort all this. Clearly she has some sort of wild ground powers all of a sudden-- and memories of having even more. Which is impossible, but true.]
Alright, so then what, everything else is fake? If you're a badass ground-quaker, then why haven't you been until now? [it's not a challenge, but a legitimate curiosity. And if Toph's are real-- than what about his own? The sense of a goal or purpose and unshakeable sense of self he'd never truly felt in Aldrip?]
[ Toph musters enough patience to wait through Shinji processing this astounding turn of events. She's still incredulous about it when she makes up every morning, after all. But her abilities make the proof undeniable -- whatever they're seeing has to be in some way real, whether it's memories or visions of another world or something else. ]
I don't know! But it's so unfair.
[ She sounds especially thirteen with that petulant outburst and tries to recover. ]
I mean -- I don't know what it means. Except for the fact that I'm a badass ground-quaker and I should have been all along. What have you been seeing?
[ He said earlier that he'd been seeing something, too, right? Toph is intensely curious to find out what other people are seeing if this is what she gets from it. ]
