Beneath the yawning abyss of worry that causes is the underlying nervous question: is he losing his mind? Are all of them? If it's not just him, then what on earth is happening?

That is pretty weird. [He doesn't want to lie and say something like he's sure it'll be fine. He's not sure about that at all. There's something within him, too, that he's just barely keeping a lid on. Some voice or personality yearning to get out, and the fact that he doesn't know what it is scares the hell out of him.
