(OPEN MINGLE) i wanna be the very best
Who: vash & caitlyn and YOU!
Where: an empty field on the outskirts of aldrip, somewhere out of the way but not too far from town.
What: anytime before the march event - a friendly sharpshooting practice turned competition turned ??? if you want to come and practice or learn or if you just wanna come and show everyone you're the best, or if you want to just come and judge people, open to all!
Warnings: nothing yet, will mark as needed.
[ there are a few ways you'd have found your way to the empty clearing that serves as the impromptu target field for some shooting practice ... there are some hastily drawn posters that you might find pinned up at the common room of the inn or any public noticeboard, that simply says
PRACTICE DAY: we've got plenty of targets!
which ... really, doesn't tell you all that much about just what kind of practice it's meant to be?
or otherwise you might find vash walking past with a cartload of little clay plates - or you might be out on a walk and run into caitlyn critically arranging some empty bottles (and other things, go creative go wild) in neat rows along various points on the field, with little cards to mark out the distance.
honestly, however you made it here, this is just a friendly competition / friendly opportunity to practice somewhere safely without getting in the way of others! feel free to make your own top levels and mingle! teach people how to be gun safe! challenge them to some clay shooting (and welcome to up the stakes by making the throws as difficult as you want for the other person) or do an old fashioned bottle shooting - or come up with a fun competition idea yourself! shoot a leaf out of the air? you don't shoot but you want to stand around and criticise how everyone's forms are totally wrong? go wild! ]

goro akechi - ota
After everything is in their places Akechi goes and sets up his own private practice somewhat away from the others just in case, placing various targets, from glass bottles to cans and clay statues, in different distances. Once he's done, Akechi takes his place assumes a position, equipping himself with his own handgun. He takes deep breath and shoots. Each bullet hits their mark perfectly, either knocking them down or shattering them apart. Akechi is not only great marksman but also terribly fast with his movements. It's clear that he's done this quite often.
But once he's done, he clicks his tongue and eyes narrow in frustration. 'Not good enough', he thinks to himself as he walks to put up another set of targets. And again, he goes to his spot, raises his gun and shoots another round.]
pop a cap on that ass--
[So of course he does the perfectly sane thing and approaches Akechi anyway, rolling his shoulders and slipping his hands easily into his pockets to avoid any more tellingly anxious tics. He waits until Goro is clicking his tongue and has the gun lowered before he calls out:] I've seen you hit moving targets faster than that.
akira please.....
Goro is setting up another clay statue on the pedestal when he hears Akira's voice calling out for him.]
Well, yes. This is no Metaverse. [He calls back, without bothering to turn around. Though, they both know the truth. He is getting rusty.] Did you come here to run mouth or are you planning to give it a go?

Huh, how interesting. It seems like Akira’s yakuza friend actually had some of the real stuff hidden among the toys.]
Are you sure? I always thought that the knives suited your gentleman thief act better.
no subject
[He hums, closing his eyes thoughtfully and rolling his head on his shoulders a bit, back and forth to jostle them both with his chin still hooked over Goro's shoulder.] We all had guns, anyway. And it's not like toys work here like they did in the Metaverse.
no subject
I can teach you if you are certain. I suppose it is a good skill to have in here. [Because who knows when they're going to lose the touch with their Personas again. Better be safe than sorry.
Goro retracts away from Akira and hands over his gun.]
Go take the position and show me what you got.
no subject
[He looks at the gun as its handed to him, and surprises himself in that he doesn't... React. He figured being handed a gun, a real actual loaded pistol, especially from Goro's hand, would unsettle him slightly.]
[He turns it over in his hands a moment, rolling his shoulders and lifting his eyebrows.] Huh. Real ones are a lot heavier. Guess that makes sense.
[He ambles on over to the area he saw Goro shooting the targets from before, and studies the gun a long moment, familiarizing himself with it. Safety, trigger, hammer... He raises it, flicks off the safety, and supports the hand curled around the trigger guard and handle with his opposite hand. It takes him a minute to actually pull the trigger, and the recoil startles him, visibly so, but he angles himself toward another target and shoots with a bit more certainty.]
[Again, and again, and again.]
[The first target he missed entirely (though thankfully to no dangerous degree), the second was closer, the third he hit but not well, fourth was serviceable, and he doubled back to the first one for the fifth and hit it pretty square. It wasn't a bullseye, it was hardly a kill shot, but for his first five times firing an active firearm, it's pretty all right.]
[He grimaces a little and flicks the safety back on, dropping his arm.] Damn, I don't know how you hold that up for so long, you must have biceps of steel.
no subject
When Akira finally pulls the trigger Goro doesn't do as much as flinch. He's already so used to the loud 'bang' that rings through the air. His face stays neutral as he watches Akira shoot, missing the mark. Honestly, it'd be surprising if he managed to hit the target on his first try and--
..Oh, he actually managed to knock one mark off. Hardly a perfect shot, sure, but still impressive. There's even a small smile on his lips.]
Heh, you'd know I did. [Is that a vague hint of lewdness? Maybe. Well anyway, Goro walks up to Akira's personal bubble and reaches to fix his posture.] Here, spread your legs and bend them slightly. Keep your back straight and extend your gun hand forward and use your another one to support it. It's a small miracle you didn't dislocate your wrist there just now.
no subject
[It also means that his upper arms are extremely tense when Goro moves him to a better way of standing. Those take a few seconds longer to relax, the tension easing out of them the longer Goro's hands stay in contact. He shimmies to widen his stance, bends his knees to the slightest of stoops, and puts his right arm forward with the left to support the butt of the gun. He looks from the gun to Goro and back, tilting his head as though to ask if he was correcting himself properly.] Good thing, too, I use that hand pretty often. [More lewd suggestion.]
no subject
Remember to breathe. [He says, his voice juuuust slightly too low to be completely innocent.]
There. How does this feel compared to before?
i am so glad to get to use this icon
[A very distinct shudder makes his breath and the lower half of his spine shudder, and he closes his eyes, swallowing.] Stabler, [He croaks, but the hairs on the back of his neck are definitely standing on end. If he pops a gun lesson boner, it's at least half Goro's fault.]
rip akira, his life is a struggle
Good. Try keep it up by yourself. [And with that he retracts himself from Akira and walks back up to set up another row of targets, using empty soup cans this time.] Now, focus on the targets and try keep the gun on the same line as your eyes.
[He steps aside, making room for Akira.] Take your time and shoot when you're ready. Remember your breathing.
it's so hard to have a hot boyfriend with a great ass
[He only ever stands straight like this when he's Joker, a resemblance only increased by the fact he so rarely wears his glasses anymore. His eyes track the targets without moving his head overmuch, slowly raising the gun and holding it with one hand supporting the other at the butt of it. He aligns the first target between the barrel and his eyes, clicks off the safety, and...]
[...misses, because the recoil arcs the bullet a little wide to the left. He clicks his tongue against his teeth and readjusts, trying again. This time he hits it, but not square in the center so it just sends the soup can careening off the pedestal. With a reproachful frown, he glances to Goro.]
no subject
Not yet, anyway.
Once the can is knocked down, he goes to fetch it to inspect the shot. Hm, seems like he hit on the top of the can. Not perfect but still a solid hit.]
Not too bad. For your first time. [He calls back, a wry smile on his lips. Placing the can back on the pedestal for the second round, Goro walks back to Akira's side.] There should be two shots left. Try again.

Take a look for yourself. [If Levi catches the can and follows to take a proper look at it he will notice that the bullet landed a little bit too on the left from the center.]
I think I'm getting rusty.
no subject
Its been peaceful lately, I guess that's not surprising.
[Not much to do for it except for practice, though.]
no subject
I'd hardly call this peaceful time. The calm before the storm, if anything. [It hadn't been a long since their last battle after all. And now with the conflicts with Ketsora? Yeah, no. He doubts this 'peace' is going to last.]
no subject
If we're not currently fighting or gearing up to fight, it'd basically peaceful to me.
[He had to take what he could get during the war.]
But it means you have time to practice.

[To Akechi, at least, there was never such thing as downtime. When he wasn't on a mission, tearing down the walls inside people's minds and destroying their cognition, he was busy with making plans. Doing background work on his next targets and keeping up his public appearances together. Work, school, what have you. Everything was part of a battle for him.
But one thing he agreed with Levi, when there's no active fighting they have no excuse not to be practicing. Akechi sets up another set of target on the pedestal and walks back to his spot.]
Do you want to give it a go?
no subject
I try not to over think things.
[Cause he dumb. And when he did he'd get stuck in a loop of anxiety.]
Sure.
[He carefully watches Akechi set up before taking his rifle in his hands. His shots are prefect, but he does do it slower with proper time to line each up unlike Akechi'd quick movement from target to target.]
no subject
As he was shooting, she remained silent. Not wanting to distract him. Then he was annoyed... ]
You seem dissatisfied.
[A tilt of the head, peering out from under the brim of her hat. It wasn't as though he'd done badly. If anything, he'd done better than most.]
no subject
Akechi is crouching down on the ground, picking up the target he just knocked down, when Naoto's voice reaches him. A slight annoyance washes over him -- he had set his own training range away from the others because he didn't really care for an audience. Sighing silently, he picks up the can he had used as a target, stands up and turns around and.
WELL.
If there was any hostility on his body it drains immediately away when he sees just who he is facing. Because WELP, that sure is Naoto Shirogane! Enjoy the rare moment of Goro Akechi just standing there flabbergasted for a brief moment because what??
Um. AHEM. Akechi clears his throat, coughing quickly on his gloved hand.]
My aim was off there. If this was a proper shooting range I wouldn't have gotten full points.
no subject
But she nodded. Her gaze shifting to the shattered glass and clay.]
You wouldn't. Due to some of them being broken by glancing blows and toppling over. [Bluntly. Not precise enough.] Still, it was a better attempt than some officers on active duty have made.
[But fair.]
