(after event chill out lil mingle) let's understand it
(cw depression)
(he hasn't exactly been doing great - much to the opposite. he spent the week in bed, he hasn't taken care of himself whatsoever, and he's exhausted. either way, it hardly matters how he feels, does it ever?
so. let's go. a text message arrives to everyone's charms and tablets, and it reads:)
this is, you guessed it, osamu dazai. it's been a week since that stupid maze, so here is what we have:
1. i need copious amounts of alcohol and food. i'll bring some to the beach in 30, i suggest we all do the same.
2. i'd like to hear what your experiences were. it's important for data building - we have a few detectives in this place, some smartpants, and some go-getters. we need to take advantage of our only resource, which is ourselves. meet me at the beach, or send me anonymously. i don't care about your shit per se.
see you, or don't see you.
many words that mean absolutely nothing here,
dazai.
(to those that come to the beach, they'll see several cocktail possibilities laid in front of dazai, as well as a good number of the food they serve in lupin - mixed nuts, pistachio, cheese tables, chocolate, dried figs, potato chips, chicken snacks, boiled sausage, asparagus with sauces, and dried fruit. a bonfire warms his hands in the chilly breeze of the night - this feels awfully needed.)

There's a lot she doesn't want to think about.]
Most definitely. [She offers a smile in return, though she pauses. She has a mental list of people she's spoken to before, but she doesn't recall his face. Therefore, she owes him an introduction.]
I'm Caitlyn, by the way.

[He's not a big drinker, himself --I mean, there's only so much you can get away with when you're living with a detective, and he didn't exactly have much room to press his luck-- but this sort of thing makes him feel a little nostalgic, in a weird way.]
Yu Narukami. Nice to meet you, Caitlyn.
[... The distractions don't really last long, though, do they? He finds himself thinking back to the maze again. Not just what happened, but why. After a pause, he adds,]
The maze...have you ever seen something like that happen before, here? I haven't been here as long as some others, but...it felt really different.

[Caitlyn can't help but pause as he brings up the maze. It was inevitable, of course. But not talking it out would only let the pain and emotions fester. They needed to clear the air, to process what they all went through. She taps her thumbs on the cup in her hand, considering what to say next.]
I'm afraid I haven't been here as long as others. It's the first occurrence of something to that level that I've witnessed. But shortly before my arrival, there was a monster attack. It was able to control some of the Chosen. It's the closest incident that I'm aware of to this.
[Though this was...something else, entirely. At least you can fight a monster, albeit putting friends against friends made it more complicated.]

His eyebrows lift at the connection she makes.]
I heard about that, too. It left a lot of destruction.
[They were still making repairs when he arrived. Thinking about it in the same vein as the maze...it's true that both were obstacles to overcome.]
... Maybe whatever's in charge of this place is trying to challenge us.

[Some sort of mental manipulation? Make them face themselves, as a way to repent of their crimes, maybe? It was awful and insane, but then again, nothing about this place was a sane way to handle criminals.]
If they're seeking rehabilitation, it's a funny way to go about it.
