He sweeps her a mocking bow and then vanishes from her sight. As he reappears in a deserted part of town, he finds himself shaking from anger. How dare she, he thinks, even though a part of him knows it isn't exactly her fault she was left the crystal of Azem. No, that would be fault on the part of his future self.

How dare he give up.

He kicks over a box. The loud crash and startled barking of a dog does little to soothe him. He vanishes again, taking himself further and further away by increments until he's looking at the ocean.

Even that only adds salt to the wound.

In the end, he sinks on to the sand and slumps there, listening to the lapping of the waves and wishing he were anywhere but here.
