I'm glad too. [She returns his smile.] It's a good feeling, when you can take a young soldier who's never tasted war, or a veteran with a family waiting for him at home, and keep him alive for a day longer than otherwise.

[It doesn't always work, of course. Some wounds kill at once or bleed too fast, and sometimes an injury not seen to in time will sicken, and then survival is down to luck.]
