A few thoughts occurred to him before, when he first spotted Kurt. The simplest of them was that he wasn't going to stand there and watch once the mutant get mauled—but he had to, in some sense, appreciate the opportunity to make up for his behavior during their first meeting. It doesn't matter that he doesn't yet know what's going on; he can still take advantage of that much.
Another thought that occurs to him now is a result of noticing that strange texture on that tail and Kurt's face that he's fairly certain weren't there before and aren't just a trick of the strangely green-tinted moonlight. But those are all things to be addressed later. For now, escape to safety is paramount.]
