Reflexively, surprised, he finds himself half-exclaiming "wh--!" before he's absolutely pummeled by the barrage of dark magic. He couldn't have expected the sudden counterattack, but knowing he didn't have time to equip something resistant to darkness doesn't make it hurt any damn less. It takes him a second to catch his breath, to shake off the sting of pain.]
