[It's a very subtle reaction at first. Her eyes widen a little, her breath catching in her throat as it feels like her heart stops for just a moment. There's a part of her that wants to reject it out of hand -- Scott can't just be gone. But there's a larger part, a part of her that knows better, that anyone can leave her life at any time, and there's not always the chance to say goodbye. Her nostrils flare a little with the wave of emotion, but she smiles anyway.
It's not this Scott's fault. He's probably been through a lot already, right? So unloading her feelings on him isn't fair, even if the way he touches his own chest makes her heart hurt. She opens her mouth to try to say something reassuring -- her old standby, "it's okay!" -- but she can't quite manage the breath for it. Maybe she's not as subtle as she thinks, because it feels like there might be wetness in the corners of her eyes.
