[ call it vash's (doubtful) plan of acclimatising nai into society - but he's somehow managed to talk himself into helping out at the farm, and also bring his brother along with him. don't ask vash how he's done it ... in any case, he faintly realises that getting along with other animals will help pave the step into the next direction (see: humans). that, and he just wants to see all the things that he's only been able to watch via old recordings from earth. it's somewhat exciting, really, even though a part of him is all out of sorts nervous from keeping an eye out on his wayward brother.
their first job is to bring in some new hay after they've raked out the old, stinky layer - there is plenty in the storage next to the barn, so it's not like they have a far distance to go for that. vash has done some odd (and frankly gross) jobs around people in his time, so that's not what particularly bothers him ... he's too busy looking around to pay attention to the gross smelly part. ]
