[ next to wen kexing, another man has been roped into free labour—admittedly willingly because he wants to build some goodwill with the people here, it's a survival mechanism.

dostoevsky glances as his companion, in flowering or harvesting or whatever this is, pulls out a bunch of them carelessly. his sleeves rolled up, thin hands coated in dirt, he pauses to offer some advice.

after all, if they keep pulling out the wrong thing they're going to be here until nightfall. he's not sure his knees can withstand that. ]
