As it turned out the alchemist of Radz-at-Han were looking into ways to counteract tempering through the use of dragon scales since dragons have a higher resistance to tempering. It took some time to find the right combination of scale and, um, other stuff.

In the end, we had an amulet that could shield someone from such corruption, but it could only shield from something like the Thirteenth for a short period of time. We discovered this when Y'shtola sent a couple of familiars through the portal into the Void. So we needed something stronger.
After talking with Cid, his Ironworks took over from there and found a way to improve upon the amulet, allowing us to traverse the void with little worry.
