Fortunately he's pretty fast for a guy running on sand, and he makes the split-second decision to just pick up the nearest piece of debris he can easily lift and chuck it at the creature. It doesn't do anything of course, just gets lost in the swirling void of nothing that makes this thing up, but it wasn't really intended to do damage anyway. Only get its attention off attacking long enough to shove Ragna (and hopefully the idiot trying to help him) out of the way.
Here's hoping they don't just end up in a prone lump. ]
